Sumeet Sachdev is best known for his portrayal of Gautam “Gomzy” Virani in the iconic television soap Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. This show continues to hold a special place in Indian television history. The actor, who is currently seen playing Aniruddha Bose in the ongoing series Jhanak, has now returned to the Kyunki universe with Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2. In the new chapter, Sachdev reprises his popular character Gautam Virani, this time appearing as a lawyer, reconnecting with a role that defined an important phase of his career.
Talking about his return to the show, Sumeet shared that stepping back into the world of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi was an emotional experience for him. He spoke about the deep connection he still feels with the show and the impact it had on his journey as an actor. “Coming back to Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi honestly felt like coming home. That show shaped so much of my journey as an actor, so there’s a lot of emotion attached to it,” he said.
‘It Felt Like Coming Home’
Sumeet also reflected on reuniting with Smriti Irani, who played Tulsi Virani in the original series. According to him, despite the passage of time, the comfort and understanding between them remained unchanged. He shared, “And with Smriti, the vibe was exactly the same — effortless and familiar. Time had passed, of course, but the comfort, the mutual respect, that instant understanding… it was all still there. We just picked up from where we’d left off, like no time had gone by.” His words highlight how certain creative partnerships retain their essence even after years apart.
While discussing his comeback, Sumeet also became nostalgic about the original team of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. He recalled the bond shared among the cast and crew, describing the set as one big family. “I miss a lot of my co-actors from the old Kyunki days. We were a big family on that set,” he shared, emphasizing how those relationships left a lasting impression on him.

Remembering the Old Kyunki Family
Among all his former co-actors, Sumeet mentioned that he misses Sandeep Baswana the most. Remembering their time together, he said, “But the one I probably miss the most is Sandeep Baswana. He’s honestly one of the funniest people I’ve ever met — the kind who can keep you laughing nonstop and single-handedly keep the set alive.” He added that they are still very much in touch today and shared an interesting connection between their personal and professional lives. “I’m still very much in touch with him today. And here’s the fun twist — he’s my reel wife Arsh’s (Ashlesha Sawant) real-life husband. Complicated? Haha! That’s television for you (laughs).”
Apart from Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Sumeet Sachdev has been part of several well-known television shows, including Yeh Hai Mohabbatein, Karam Apnaa Apnaa, Khwaish, Aye Dil Jee Le Zara, Chashni, among others. His return to Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2 marks a revisit to a legacy that continues to resonate with audiences even today.
