When the show first started it started off 1000 years ago.
RK is evil, Yamraaj, he falls in love with Raajkumari Damyanti. She is in love with Senapati Veer. She turns down RK many times but he just wants her. RK is going to war with all the kingdoms and winning too, now he wants Champanagar and Damu.
To kill RK, the Pavitra Shakti tells Veer RK can only be killed with the blood that flows from an angry Damyanti. Not being able to do that and see Damyanti in pain Veer goes to kill RK on his own. Damu finds out and goes to Veer. In front of Damu RK kills Veer. They vow to each other to reunite no matter how many births they have to take.
Damu traps RK and cuts him into 52 pieces. All his parts are buried in different holy places. RK too vows to come back for Damyanti.
Not being able to love without Veer, Damyanti kills herself.
This Damyanti was not like the one we see now. She was more mature and disciplined.
1000 years later, present era. Damyanti is born as Savitri, an orphan. Veer is reborn as Satya. Satya falls in love with Savitri at first sight. Gulika, RKs sister wants them to reunite so only then can RK be brought back to life.
First whenever Savitri and Satya touch she used to get this shocks and flashbacks of RK which used to frighten her. Anyway they get married and soon Savitri is ok with being in contact with Satya after she gets the Mayavi book which has the story of her past life.
They go on honeymoon to Andaman where RKs head is. Gulika gets his head and all RK wants to know is where his Damyanti is. When he finds out shes married and that too to Veer/Satya it angers him and he abducts Satya and tortures him. Everyone believes Satya is dead except Savitri who believes him to be alive as she can see the dead and if Satya had died then he would have surely come to see her.
Gulika comes to Savitri and tells her she has to get RKs arms if she wants Satya back. Savitri with the help of the Mayavi book goes to Kaamroop mandir, to get RKs arms. After alot of hardship she gets his arms and also comes face to face with RK. By now she remembers everything about her past life. RK is still obsessed with her. She gets Satya back but he doesnt remember being abducted or ever meeting RK.
RK harasses her and keeps telling Savitri he will make her his. He creates problems between her and Satya but doesnt succeed.
Next she has to go find his legs at TaaraDwar. Now Savitri with the help and guidance of Dhoomketu has a plan to trap him there. RKs mother gets to know and wants to save RK. At the fifth Dwar Savitri pretends to accept RK and be with him to trap him. When he goes to get his legs he gets trapped in this Kaalchakra which will keep him there for 2000 years. And when he does come back he will remain incomplete as this was Savitri and Satya last birth.
Vishgati, RKs mother who is hurt on losing her son gives up her immortal life in exchange for RK to go back 1000 years to where it all began. But this time he must not see Savitri/Damyanti ever or fall in love with her as he will be met with the same fate again, being destroyed by Savitri/Damyanti.
Vishgati curses Savitri that because she did all this for her Satya she will never know him as her Satya when she too goes back 1000 years. Her Satya will be there as Veer but with a new face whom she wont recognise, hence the entry of Ashish as the new Veer.
Vishgati made Gulika promise to look after RK and make sure he never sees Damyanti and for him to get the power to be immortal.
But as you know Gulika has other ideas.
