Tragic B-town endings

We love our films to have perfect endings. The girl meets boy and they fall in love and live happily ever after. But the fairytale endings is a thing of the past it seems. The Romeo and Juliet tragic storytelling is what is appealing our filmmakers today and the audiences have happily accepted it.

Ishaqzaade

Ishaqzaade -2012
Director: Habib Faisal
Starcast: Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra

The desi Romeo and Juliet by Habib Faisal setup with politics in the background was great. The Muslim-Hindu rift was also a criteria for the two lovers, Param and Zoya played by Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra, not to meet in the end along with the family rivalry. The climax where they kill each other happily and yet sleep eternally in each other's arms is the most touching scene.

Aashiqui 2

Aashiqui 2 - 2013
Director: Mohit Suri
Starcast: Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor

The musical love story received lukewarm response intially but soon caught everyone's interest with the word of mouth. The lover giving up his life for his partner to move ahead and achieve success is what was liked by the audiences and went on to become a hit. And how can we forget the romantic song of the season, Tum Hi Ho.

Raanjhanaa

Raanjhanaa - 2013
Director: Anand L Rai
Starcast: Dhanush, Sonam Kapoor and Abhay Deol

Some say Raanjhanna glorifies stalkers while others say it is a bit over the top. But Raanjhanaa is about a guy and his true love for a Muslim girl since childhood. The guy's love is so true that he is unaware of his girl's intentions and ready to risk his life.

Lootera

Lootera - 2013
Director: Vikramaditya Motwane
Starcast: Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha

Now this film is said to be a poetry in motion. With no lows neither highs, the film has its content always brimming and never a dull moment. The tragic end in this film has surely moved hearts and got the viewers eyes moist by the end of the film.

I like the trend excepts the tragic part where they die. Why do they have to die in every film? No happy ending? 😭

I do agree about the Sonam film..it was kind of over the top..even though I hated Ishqzaade a first..I see now why ppl loved the film so much..it wasn't over the top at all..they try to keep it very realistic. I might watch it today again and see if I like it. I think the reason why I disliked it was because the actors weren't very convincing in their roles: Pari and Arjun need acting classes.

haven't seen Lootera yet. Am dying to see A2..why isn't it on Netflix? 😭

ohh i loved Ashiqui 2 and Raanjhaana..

Ashiqui 2 :-

The lover giving up his life for his partner to move ahead and achieve
This was smthing that made me.. guys like RJ really dont exist, but still d movie and his character does make one feel for the the whole plot.. selfless indeed..

Raanjhana:-

Undoubtedly the best of this year.. and i cant stop talking about it.. DHANUSH & KUNDAN.. KUNDAN & DHANUSH.. donno whom i loved more.. but loved it..The last 30 mins of the film just makes my heart bleed... its a beautiful film wid some beautiful and divine music.. Hindi films hardly have such unconventional heroes and heroines like kundan and zoya.. and both sonam-Dhanush indeed had an amazing chemistry.. i still cant hate zoya when i look at her from Kundan's POV.. Love at its pure form..thats all i can say..

Ishaqzaade. I didn't feel sad when they killed each other because of their conversation before taking the decision. They were planning their future... Parma saying Zoya that she will help him with his studies... they will start their new life in some other town where Zoya can fulfill her dream of becoming an MLA... etc.
