Kadvi Sabazi Kay din...

Ek hi din mein itna Kuch badal jayaga... Sab oos Laad Governer ki vejeh say...Karela... Us par neem chada...upar say basi ... Aur upar say 100 rupiya kilo!!!! How can anything be any less palatable...for a girl who's days and nights are is ruled by jalabee and chashni!!! Her days of Kadvi Sabazi are upon her...

Upheaval in the lives of the two small town girls... who were, until a few days ago, joyously singing and dancing for Payal's wedding ... How can things go wrong so fast??? And now... They are being unceremoniously uprooted from their small sheltered life in Gomti Sadan and are being banished to the big bad... Bina dil ki Dilli... Macchais ki tilli!!! Devi Maiya!!! How will Babuji manage?? What will Amma's do all alone...

The lives of our Titliya and Paliya... prior to the last few tumultuous days...seems to be filled with gentle, loving, doting indulgences of their Babuji, a watchful, affectionate, schooled upbringing of their Amma and a playful , abiding sisterhood...

They both had seen dark days before...and now once again, Khushi is being ripped from her home... A home where she was loved and cherished but also a home in which she lived with the gratitude of an eight year old orphan...

And their future ???? Lovingly planned for and secured...throughly mapped by their parents...Each treasure diligently squirreled away for years...for that one perfect wedding day . A textbook like scripted predictability ... Marriage, family, home, love, happiness ... In that order...Simple aspirations of simple girls...All run aground in a heartbeat...on that one chance encounter...

And now these two are tossed in a maelstrom... rudderless..with the biased , temperamental Buaji at the helm...She had tried to explain... She had slipped... Buaji's had made it sound so vile... The disappointment in Babujis eyes... The fear and resignation in Amma's anger... and a decision is enforced.

Dilli... a strange town... As foreign as any would be oceans across...where dangers lurks even in unlikely sacred places...and people are not what they seem...Where gulibility is preyed upon...innocence can easily be led astray...trust can be trampled upon...and help comes at a cost...The very town where the Ajgar lives...

And then, one of the scenes of I P K that catches me in my throat...each and every time...

Buaji yells off screen..." Array Jaldi karo nahin to train choot jayi hai..."

A silver moon... visible through dark clouds...curtains billowing in the wind... Soft rhythmic melody ...notes lifting with each approaching moment...silent fading sillouehets, moving in slow motion...heaviness in the hearts of all...withheld affection...Wet cheeks...Dahi-Chinni... Khanay ka dibba... Loving caresses ...Daughters being bid farewell ... Led to the door...not as planned... with Doli... barat and Sehnai... but silently... Surreptitiously ... in the dark... Away from prying judgmental eyes...Dogs barking...One last look over her shoulders... as she steps over that threshold ...

A small close knit family with fussy interwoven... interdependent lives... is Split... Never to be the same again...What will become of Babuji and Amma's cherished girls ???

They will be fine, Scooter walay Bhaiya...Coz they may be fresh off the train... A bit scared and overwhelmed... But are made of sterner stuff..

What a beautiful post ipoona , bestum best!

A fluid writing style, warm, emotional yet powerful- I loved it.

So lets begin at the beginning, Khushi and Payal - leave the bachpan behind and step into the big bad world, propelled by the Laad Governar!

So in that sense he not only drew Khushi towards himself, but also set the wheels in motion for Payal and Akash to meet!

Payal - grounded, humble, the simplest of all adornments, yet capable of adding tremendous amount of grace and beauty once worn.

Khushi - an emotion without which life has no meaning, which lives in the heart, calms the mind and comforts the soul.

Payal - defined, limited, of a fixed form and shape, fits snugly around the feet, jingles timidly yet musically, is often unobtrusive and can remain unseen, symbol of domesticity and tradition

Khushi - cannot be defined, is intangible, has no fixed form, or shape, quirky and associated with love, laughter, abandon, craziness!

As their names symbolized, so are our Payalia and Titaliya!

As they leave home, they move towards their destiny and the future that awaits them

Payals journey will end at the horizon, where the sky (Akash) will bend down low, and meet her halfway, and together they will build their life!

And Khushi - who only flourishes by giving, whose magnitude lies in her minuteness, will find her match in the turbulence of ocean (Arnav), and she will calm the raging storms and spread love and laughter in a heart dry and deserted!

Yeh jadoo aur kahin nahi aur kabhi nahin hoga!

Njoy!!!

EPISODE - 006

Babul ki duaein leti jaa
Jaa tujhko sukhi sansaar mile

Poona an incredible post darling ... the above song was the first thought i got when i read ur post ..

After i read ur post was searching for that "word" which would adequately describe it ... the word which popped up was .. "whimsical" ... a sheer soft poignant poetry.

Very Very Very well written post .. you have so beautifully captured the "feelings & Emotions' of a young girl heading out into the Unknown ..

yes .. Khushi was going to soon get a taste of "kadva" in her life ...but life as they say is filled with 'bittersweet' moments ...

But .. as i write this ... the one thought that comes to mind is .. again Khushi's entire focus was on Arnav .. the man whom she felt brought this bitterness into her life .. the man who forced her to move to "bina dil ki dilli" ...

Well ofcourse .. Arnav ki DIlli was bina dil ki .. cause .. bechare ka dil toh Lucknow mein tha na ... isiliye Devi Maiyaa conspired with Arnie to get his "dil" back ... (go back to my earlier posts now ... do u now doubt ke Arnav was also DM's favored child 😉)

What Khushi acknowledged albeit later on .. was the fact .. that the 'kadva karela' was not the bitterness in her life .. but a bitterness that brought the 'real sweetness' in her life ...

Note back to the dialog she tells Arnav ... when he apologizes to her (start of the second marriage track) ...
She tells him .. U DONT HAVE TO APPOLOGIZE ... I CAN SEE THE LOVE IN UR EYES ...

Now note back to Arnav's dialog to Anji ... when she discusses Khushi's displeasure at her engagement ... he tells Anji .. " Jisse Pyaar nahi karti .. uske saath apni saari zindagi kaise..."

Both these dialogs were the beacons ... which threw light on the fact ... LOVE for these 2 happened on a starry night under fairy lights ... when they first came upon each others sight.

Sorry guys .. havent watched the episode yet ... but really dont need to .. cause Poona's post today propelled me back to the episode 6 .. so beautifully well has she described the essence of the episode ..

Aaj ke liye itna hi ... but another day another episode .. another reflection ... awaits ..

ENJOY ...

Reflections - Episode 6

Objects in Mirror are Larger than They Appear

The stage has been set. All the principals have made their presence known. The leads have been introduced. On to the drama itself.

Khushi and her sister are banished from Lucknow. But she needs to go to Delhi - or else how will she meet up with her Prince Charming? She has to walk through the dark forest and before she can see the castle and the forbidding beast that lies in it.

Khushi has dire thoughts about Delhi, colored by the man who has invaded her life. Her thoughts are as dark as his clothes. Yet Shyam appears to her, in front of Devi Mayya and offers her a helping hand. He tells her that she has one more friend and well-wisher in Delhi. Someone who will help her. And Devi Mayya makes him keep his word. For each act of his will only draw Khushi nearer her goal - Arnav.

And Shyam mentions the dhak-dhak dhak-dhak of Delhi. Once again, to all lovers of IPK - dhak-dhak has a special meaning, a special connotation. Two hearts beating as one. For Khushi, standing on the threshold of being uprooted from all that is familiar, there must have been anticipation, worry, fear. All emotions that induce a dhak-dhak.

Yet, it is Shyam who utters that magic phrase for the first time.

This is a scene that is soaked with irony that only the future will reveal.

So with her sister, the charming Payal at her side and her (so far) rough Buaji as their chaperone, the two sisters finally arrive at their destination. Their lives have already gone past point non plus.

The beautiful interlude with Buaji and Bedi Uncle had so much promise. Alas, they never explored it. It was humorous without being slapstick - especially where they share an eyelock.

This episode has one of the rare scenes in IPK that is shot outside Raizada Mansion. Arnav and Anjali talking about the puja that Nani wants him to attend. Arnav reinforcing his disbelief in meaningless rituals, and Anjali's sugary sweet chatter.

He does not believe in fate, destiny, coincidences, serendipity or anything of the sort. Yet as he sits in his car, his assistant on the cell informs him that Khushi has left Lucknow.

And lo and behold, Khushi appears in his side view mirror.

Objects in Mirror are larger than they Appear.

That's what is inscribed on the mirror. This is the one thought that ran through my mind at the end of the episode.

Arnav Singh driving along, utterly oblivious of Khushi, moving up from his "blind spot" to the mirror, and speeding past while his eyes are still on the road. She is larger than life. She will impinge on his life in a way that he never anticipated.

For now, its enough that she and he are literally on collision course. They crash into each other.

Fate and Devi Maiyya have a quiet laugh.

well said guys...loved how u described the episode...

@Ipoona yeah its their life badal ne wale din...it may seems like "Sab uss Laad Governer ki vajah say"...but it was destined...beautifully written...

@GirlOfFire just realized Dhak-Dhak is first time said by Snake...

He does not believe in fate, destiny, coincidences, serendipity or anything of the sort. Yet as he sits in his car, his assistant on the cell informs him that Khushi has left Lucknow.

And lo and behold, Khushi appears in his side view mirror.

They crash into each other.

This is fate...isske aage koi kuch nahi kar sakta...koi Arnav Singh Raizada bhi nahi...

@chowna So this's the first time "farak nahi padta" verbalized...only we know how much "farak padta" later...

Ruby,
This why two heads are better than one, and multiple passionate ones are the best ... Absolutely am floored by your bittersweet comment... In context of the Kadvi Sabzi... Have to go to work ... Will come back to discuss more...

Your analysis always leaves me stumped!!! Absolutely brilliant... Especially the part about the Kardva karela bringing sweetness into her life... Absolutely agree... Even though she will be going through some tough times in the upcoming days...she and Arnav are moving towards each other...creating bitter sweet moments...

I loved that a little later in the episode... Di comes to him and says I made your favorite food... Mooli-methi ka paratha... 😊 Again pungent and bitter...

Ps you are too generous with your praise ... But every word is appreciated immensely ... Means a lot!!!
