Actor Amit Sial has been roped in to play the role of Sugriv in Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious Ramayana, according to reports. The film, headlined by Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, Yash, and Sunny Deol, is slated for release during Diwali 2026.
As per Hindu mythology, Sugriv is the younger brother of Bali who played a key role in helping Lord Rama rescue Sita from Ravana. A report in Hindustan Times quoted a source saying, “Amit has shot a few portions of the film, and he will be seen playing a Hindu epic mythological character Sugriv. The actor and the director, Nitesh, will be working on his appearance to have authenticity to his narrative.” The source also mentioned, “Amit is nearly at the completion of his part in the first edition of the film.”
The project has already generated immense curiosity. On July 3, 2025, the makers officially unveiled Ramayana: The Introduction at a global launch, showcasing the first looks of Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Yash as Ravana. The reveal set the stage for the epic clash between Rama and Ravana, marking the beginning of a planned cinematic trilogy.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the film brings together a wide ensemble. Along with Ranbir, Sai Pallavi, and Yash, Sunny Deol will portray Lord Hanuman while Ravie Dubey steps in as Lakshman. Produced by Madhu Mantena and Allu Aravind, the project is being described as one of the largest undertakings in Indian cinema.
The first instalment, Ramayana: Part 1, is scheduled for Diwali 2026, with Part 2 expected in Diwali 2027. Industry watchers believe the films could mark a milestone in bringing Indian mythology to the global screen with unprecedented scale and visual storytelling.
Meanwhile, another development has sparked discussions. Reports suggest that Amitabh Bachchan may join the project, not as an on-screen character but as its narrator. A source told Mid-Day, “We’re exploring the idea of having Bachchan as the sutradhar. His voice adds gravitas that no one else can match. The makers are keen that the film opens with his voice. It’s still at the discussion stage.”
If finalised, Amitabh Bachchan’s presence as the spiritual narrator could add a powerful dimension to Tiwari’s ambitious retelling of the epic.
Actor Amit Sial has joined Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana, playing Sugriv, the loyal ally of Lord Rama. The ambitious project also stars Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, Yash, and Sunny Deol in key roles. Its first look was revealed globally in July 2025. The first part is slated for Diwali 2026, with the sequel arriving in Diwali 2027.
