Chapter 15.
Sharon looked at Kria. But she just kept staring down, trying to control her tears.
"Who is this guy but?" Sharon asked her father.
Kriya was teary eyed. Sharon gauged that she was unable to speak… And sadness, that was evident on her face. But why was she so sad?
"Swayam… He's such a nice boy.. And we are family friends as well. Don't know what's bothering Kriya but she doesn't want to marry Swayam." Sharon's mother said.
Sharon was dumbstruck. Her mind had accepted it, but her heart was not willing to accept the fact that it was Swayam who was finally chosen for Kriya.
"Swayam?" She asked, this time in a fairly low voice.
"Yes. Swayam." Her father crossed his hands and sat in a relaxing position. "I had an idea about Kriya's reaction but she'll eventually come to know that we have made the right decision by choosing Swayam for her."
Sharon looked at Kriya. She was somehow controlling her sadness, but Kriya, Sharon noticed that small drops were wetting her pink cheeks.
Before she could make a fool out of herself in front of her family members, Kriya got up and rushed up the stairs straight to her room.
"Swayam is the right choice for her?" Sharon asked her father. Even she was unhappy with this decision but she knew something had to be done about it.
"Yes he is."
"Does he know that he's getting married to Kriya?"
"Maybe... His parents just went and they'll tell Swayam later I guess."
Sharon hoped for some miracle. She absolutely couldn't see Swayam getting married to her sister and Swayam her brother in law? No freaking way! This process somehow had to be stopped as she knew that mostly Kriya was in love with someone else.
"Sharon, just go and talk to Kriya and try to convince her." Sharon's mother broke her chain of thoughts.
"Okay mom." Sharon said and rushed to her room.
Kriya laid on her bed staring at the ceiling, tears continuously flowing from her eyes and she was not even wiping them.
"Kriya.." Sharon said once she entered the room.
"Go Sharon… I don't want to talk to anyone right now." She sniffled. Her voice had become dry because of crying.
"Listen sister, I'm her to help you okay? Now shut up and listen to me."
"What are you going to do anyway? You know na, dad will NOT change his decision whatsoever."
"Listen to me first!"
Kriya sighed and interpreted that she was left with no other option.
"Rey loves you." Sharon said excitedly.
Kriya's eyes widened as she heard this mere sentence of hers. She got up and sat back facing Sharon. There was a smile playing on her lips.
"Really? Who said?"
"Leave that part. The fact is that he loves you…We need to think about stopping this Swayam and your marriage matter."
"Yeah… I know… But… but how?" Her smile slowly faded.
"Do you want me to talk to dad about it??" Sharon raised her eyebrows and looked up at her.
"You can do that?"
"I'll try my best."
"Okay.. If that's what you can do…" Kriya looked tensed but she knew her sister could do it. Sharon's dad was very close to her, but totally impartial. Maybe his anger had cooled down.
"I'm going downstairs. Are you coming with me?"
"No…You go… All the best."
Sharon tried to shove all the thoughts about love from her mind. All she knew was that Kriya loved Rey and Rey loved Kriya. She had to help her sister, and well indirectly set her future with Swayam as well. She hadn't spoken to Swayam after coming back but she very well knew that this job had to be done prior to speaking to him.
"Hey dad." She said standing in attention in front of her dad who was comfortably resting on the sofa and reading newspaper with his glasses on.
"Yes?"
"I wanted to talk to you." She said, trying to sound as confident as possible.
"Say then." He said sternly.
"Umm.. I wanted to talk about Kriya's marriage with Swayam."
He stopped her from saying anything more and put his palm in front of her to indicate "stop". "No more discussions about this."
"But dad, at least listen to me?"
"What do you want to say Sharon?"
"That…" Sharon's legs stiffened as she began voicing her point of view. Her legs were shivering out of tension.
"Stop it Sharon. Feel confident. He's not going to eat you." She tried to tell her mind. And sure enough, it worked.
"Kriya is a big grown up girl. She knows how to take her decisions. She can manage herself properly and she knows Swayam since a long time. She knows Swayam more than you and mamma do… So if she's saying that she doesn't want to marry Swayam, there might be some reason associated with it.. If she's saying that she doesn't want to marry Swayam, then maybe she feels she'll take time to adjust with him. If she's saying she doesn't want to marry Swayam, it means that she won't be able to spend her life with him." She said in a breath and at the end, sighed.
"You get my point dad?"
"I have become used to your agile way of speaking…So yes, I get your point. I know what you are saying is true, but Swayam's parents started this topic, not me."
"What?" Sharon was shocked.
"Yes they did. Now if Kriya backs out like this, what will we tell them?"
"Dad…make some excuse na…I know you would be able to make a good excuse for that."
"Sharon… dear you need to be practical in these matters. Okay, I get your point but tell me who will Kriya marry then? Why not Swayam? He's such a perfect guy."
Sharon's lips carved into a crescent and a blush tiptoed to her cheeks as her dad spoke of Swayam.
She tried to hide it and hence looked down.
"Umm… I know but she is like… she can't spend rest of her life with him."
"Okay… I understand what you are saying. Let her find a guy on her own and make the guy meet me.. I want to see who her choice is."
"Okay dad. So Swayam and Kriya's wedding topic closed?" Sharon asked hopefully.
"Umm… yeah..." Sharon's dad nodded his head affirmatively.
Sharon happily got up. "Thank you dad." She said happily and straight away went to her room to tell Kriya.
"Kriya… Kriya… Kriya!! I did it!"
"Did what?" Kriya asked in a skeptical way. As if.
"I convinced dad. Now you are not getting married to Swayam." She grinned.
"Omg are you serious??" Kriya got up from her bed and hugged Sharon.
"Yes sister. I convinced him. But please make Rey meet him okay?"
"Yes…I will... And I'm sure he'll like Rey."
Sharon just smiled at her.
"Sharon, I wanted to ask you…." Kriya began.
"Ask what?"
"Why did you do this? Why did you talk about me to dad? You have never done anything like this…" Her happiness faded and suspicion overtook it.
"Umm… actually…" Sharon saw no point in hiding it from Kriya that she and Swayam were in a relationship… How was it going to bother any way? Just then her phone beeped and she realized that she had received a message.
It read- "Meet me in half an hour. I have planned something special for you. And you have to come. I'm not asking you… I'm ordering you. Get ready and come down soon. I'm picking you up."
She blushed deeply as she saw who the sender was. None other than Swayam. Her fingers went over to that reply button and she texted him back. "Ok. ;)" was what she sent.
"Are you done with your texting?? Now you can continue your sentence." Kriya brought her out of her Swayam land.
"Not now Kriya… I have to go… Official meeting… Sorry…I have to get ready." She said and ran towards her cupboard and took out a set of new clothes. She took out a deep blue knee length frock.
"Official meeting and you are going to get dressed up to this extent?"
But Sharon was not listening… She had mentally prepared herself to meet Swayam the second time after their confession… She was not going to lose control this time. Also, she had thought of an excuse.
"I'm going… Will be back at night…" Sharon came out of the dressing room 25 minutes later and said to Kriya who was patiently reading a novel and side by side texting Rey.
"Sharon…" Kriya began but Sharon cut her.
"And yeah, the reason was that… I don't want you to get married to Swayam… because I love him…" Sharon said. Kriya's eyes widened.
"And he loves me too and we are a couple." Sharon said quite normally without sounding excited or exaggerating anything.
"And you are saying so normally???? You aren't excited??"
"I am…But the initial excitement has passed out." She smirked.
"And you are going on a date now I guess?" Kriya tried teasing her.
"Stop it Kriya now.. I'm getting late.. Bye!!" Sharon said and left the room.
Sharon had been waiting since the past 10 minutes for him. She had managed to give an excuse of an official meeting with clients to her parents… As it is, one day they were going to come to know about her and Swayam.
She saw his car zooming by and it came to an halt just when she was about to call him.
"Sorry I'm late." Swayam came out of the car and walked to her carrying a gift.. He was dressed up quite casually, and was stunned, looking at her.
"What happened?" Sharon asked gauging his expression.
"Why are you so formally dressed Sharon?"
"Because I like dressing up formally… Now can we sit in the car? My legs are hurting."
"Do you want me to carry you?" Swayam gave a sly smile to her.
"Shut up Swayam." She hit him playfully. "Now let's go…" She started walking towards the car.
"Before that…" Swayam said in a very animated way…and held her wrist firmly preventing her from going anywhere. "Take this." He handed her a gift.
"Open it now."
Sharon unwrapped the gift and her lips carved into a beautiful smile as she saw what her gift was. It was a heart shaped pendant with two letters carved onto it.
"That's so beautiful Swayam!" She said happily. "I love it!"
"I'm glad you do."
"I love you Swayam…" She said and gave a small peck on his cheek.
"I love you too…Now let's go."
