I am more of a crime show fan, but the genre is not the issue here, it's a tight script, leads and their chemistry and comfort level, might I point out my pehla pyaar here - Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon - though it too was towards its end going the Hindi serial way, mercifully it was brought to an end.

But the first eight months - it has to be seen for the chemistry between the leads, there too, Barun sobti, the male lead was not comfortable with intimate scenes and was candid enough to say it in a few interviews, but none of that was seen onscreen, his chemistry with sanaya, their intense passionate scenes were superlative till the end, and to date the best I have ever seen.

A love story where the leads don't look comfortable with each other - no go!

hmm...missed Iss Pyaar Ko...I hear its coming either as a rerun or in a new season on Life OK...will now watch out for it...

but agree the genre is immaterial...its the script & lead chemistry IN the episodes...for e.g. Grey's Anatomy is set in a hospital with all sorts of complicated medical cases being covered and both leads are going out with different real life partners...

if i say something it might sound being racist..i have noticed one thing that whatever these white people do they do it from their heart with full conviction, and us indian people, there r very few who have that level of honesty in them, if we compare to grey's anatomy, then sc needs to go a long way..the honesty and commitment with which a foreign show is made is lacking big time in our indian community! sorry if i offended anyone!

Shana, while I agree that it was a good epi after a long long time, they could have come up with a convincing sequence instead of mistimed, misplaced KC, now LNs anger also seems to be unreasonable and misplaced , so the twist will also probably be on a flimsy premise!

Not looking forward to that dear

Ya Mandy I do find it a bit upsetting, I wouldn't call it white vs Indian, it's the economics of the whole thing. They have a head start over us, structured systems in place, whereas here things are unstructured, not making excuses, but I do want to defend it as lower level of professionalism, and lack of skills and not lack of honesty and commitment!

Of course it boils down to the kitsch that runs on Indian TV in the name of entertainment, where anything experimental is also beaten into "shape" and not allowed to survive

Not a new season, it is coming as a rerun, a must watch for a story well told and romance taken to another level!

agree, economics play an important part, but these people are very fore sighted, they know ahead of time what the problem is going to be and start working on it in advance so that it does not get out of control..economics yes and also intelligence come hand in hand..we mostly think aaj ka saar lo kal ki dekhi jayegi and that is an indication of being unorganized, lazy, and not having a proper leadership to deal with the situation..i work in canada, therefor i know how organized these people are..their work ethics r commendable! anyway, getting derailed..yes, the whole system need to be shaped up in a better way to give more productive results!

I think its the head start the TV industry (at least 30 - 40 years) has had there, compared to the state in India

1) Corporate structure (publicly listed companies / studios which are accountable to shareholders) compared to the still very much mom & pop driven (e.g. Ekta Kapoor / Balaji & Bhansali Productions even) outfits here ... atleast at the production house / studio level

2) Structured processes for market survey & research, segmentation, cast selection, writing, distribution of content, reward & recognition structure (look at Emmy's in USA...these awards are studio agnostic and as big as Oscars...offer outstanding performance recognition in all categories from writing to editing to sound effects etc .)

3) TV as a viable career option.. People spend their entire careers on TV...And you actually have crossover stars ...people who became big on TV and then progressed to films e.g. George Clooney (ER), Adam Sandler, Eddie Murphy, Jack Black (Saturday Night Live), FRIENDS cast and so on...compared to India where TV is still Plan B for the entire set of actors (mostly consisting of people who did not get a break in Bollywood or waiting for a break)

4) Subscription driven (>95% revenues) rather than ad revenue driven...so you can budget, plan and segment basis expected revenues...

Again very informative and analytical piece from you hotdogg.

Just like Bollywood has come into its own with a place for all kinds of cinema, and broken out of formula mould, so will TV one fine day, till then aise hi TRP Maiyya ko bali chadhate rahenge aur story aur logic ki vaat lag ate rahenge

Nowadays, Guman has switched over to western wear, even the joy of seeing her beautiful sarees is no longer there😭

I am waiting to see the rerun now. Nothing can compare to that show, a once in a life time addiction it was. My addiction with this show is weaning off, thanks to SLB. Last week I was bit upset when we got the dead line for the project but seeing last week's episodes I am glad I didn't spend much time on it. Now I would just catch up once in a while to see how it goes. @hotdogg, read your reference to Grey's Anatomy. The chemistry between the leads is really good. If we start talking about the western shows, their seasonal approach is the best policy which helps them in giving long runs for many of the shows. More than Grey's Anatomy I loved watching House, hated Dr.Greg and liked him as well...a completely complicated character. There are many we can just enjoy like Friends, Fraser and so on, wonder when Indian industry will start this trend. It would be a treat to watch.
