I think more than mocking saas bahu shows, they're going to show that getting so scared of your saas ... especially in this environment, is rather silly. Not talking about the more backward communities, where a saas might actually wield such absolute power ... I haven't come across such families, thankfully, and I hope I never will ... but a MIL can make life unpleasant for her new DIL if she wants ... and the best way to respond is not to get cowed down, but to respond pleasantly and calmly ... The problem with all saas bahu shows is that the bahu always goes dumb and starts crying, allowing the MIL to terrorise her further. In this milieu, it would make no sense at all!

For example, the way Umaben was hoping to terrorize Chhanchhan about the dark punishments that could face her if she refused to keep a pallu over her head ... and Chhanchhan confusedly pointed out how archaic and wrong that thinking was, and how wrong UB's saas was to act that way ... leaving Umaben with nothing to say ... she had to backtrack very quickly! 😆

And if Umaben gets annoyed about the labor saving method of making chapatis, I hope Chhanchhan points out equally calmly and logically that if you have a lot of work, it makes sense to use labor saving devices to complete it ...

I'm looking forward to seeing the Umaben-Chhanchhan face-off when Umaben finds out how Chhanchhan has completed the task given!

I agree Diya though I think Sunara has a point too because by doing what you say they are also in a sense mocking the unrealistic OTT storylines and characterisations of saas-bahu shows. Sanaya said this was not going to be a typical regressive saas-bahu show and has proven once again that our faith in her is justified.I wonder how much of UB's drama CC is buying into the supportiv saas role UB is playing...she obviously has all the other bahu's fooled but now things are getting interesting.
The creatives have piquesd our interest and hope they'll be able to maintian it because this show looks like it's going to be fun.

Yes, maybe the makers will do that subtly ... it will be fun to watch if they do. So far CC is not suspicious of UB's supportive saas act ... I wonder what will happen once she starts smelling a rat. But so far Chhanchhan is getting all the Brownie points by showing her willingness to adapt to such a different environment, and that itself is going to make UB's job of getting rid of her, that much harder ... she's not behaving like a typical vampish "Modern Bahu" turning up her nose at all customs. That itself is a good departure from the norm ... to show that an educated modern jeans-wearing girl can also be traditional and cultured at heart .

I saw a scene in another show on SP where the MIL notices her DIL wearing jeans under her sari and literally pulls off the sari in the drawing room to show the family that she's wearing jeans underneath - as though wearing jeans is the biggest crime in the world. It was DISGUSTING!!! Added to which, the DIL's husband, who brought his wife the jeans to wear, and encouraged her to wear them, stands like a dolt and doesn't say a word in defence of his wife. I would love to see such a scene with a twist ... where Manav says he wants his wife to wear jeans ... forget jeans, right now, even to get CC back into suits seems like another Mahabharat coming up! But I want to see that happen.

Great post. I didn't realize that they were mocking saas bahu shows but it's very true. I'm enjoying Sanaya's role as the modern bahu.
