Report: Indian runner fails gender test
NEW DELHI, India (AP) - An Indian runner who won a silver medal in the women's 800 meters in the Asian Games this month has failed a gender test and is expected to be stripped of the medal, according to reports Monday.
Santhi Soudarajan took the gender test in Doha, Qatar, after the victory. The test reports sent to the Indian Olympic Association on Sunday said Soudarajan "does not possess the sexual characteristics of a woman," The Times of India reported. The test was administered by a medical commission set up by the games' organizers. There are no compulsory gender tests during events sanctioned by the International Association of Athletics Federation, but athletes can be asked to take a gender test. The medical evaluation panel usually includes a gynecologist, endocrinologist, psychologist, and an internal medicine specialist. Dr. Manmohan Singh, chairman of the medical commission of the Indian Olympic Association told the Indian Express newspaper that the Olympic Council of Asia had been informed of the results of Soudarajan's gender test. Sports officials in the athlete's home state of Tamil Nadu said that they have no information on her whereabouts.

"If the reports are true, then it is very sad and extremely disappointing," her coach, P. Nagarajan, told the Indian Express.

Question: Michelle Wie, Annika Sorenstrom want to compete against men in Golf, And there have been other occassions in soccer, American Football, softball, etc.

If this man wants to compete against women, why is it a big deal?😉

WT! 😆 I hope the person passes the test with flying colors😛.

thanks for the article 😃

In case he fails,
He wanted to go where no man had gone before..

The following is meant for fun. I realize that the test results could be wrong and the alleged person may not be guilty.

Thanks for the article Saregji!👏

If the Gender Test Reports are true, then this is a major problem. Santhi Soudarajan had hidden the truth. He or she has lied in order to achieve her goal.

It is absolutely fine for a woman to compete against a man, as long as it's on the base of truth. Many women and men compete against each other without any problems, so I have no idea why Santhi Soudarajan did that. He or she could very well take part without being dishonest.

Cheers,

Anjali

Sareg, It is a big deal if she fails the gender test because she won a silver medal in the women's 800 meters. 😛 It was not a mixed race.

I wonder how?? and why??

Thanks for the information, Saregji.
I am an Indian living abroad and every one in my office talking about this because it was a head line news this morning. Its a BIG SHAME for India since India claims to be the most religious country and any of our religion does not teach us to hide our gender for FAME and NAME. There is nothing wrong to run against woman but not cowardly; It should be done in Public with your full identity.

But I thought this isn't absolutelty confirmed yet. If its a guy then we are out for some big-time shame.

If its a girl then, she should eventually file a suit for defamation because the news leaked out before it was confirmed!

well i have somthing to share, if the opponent has some problem with another opponent he can ask for the gender test of the opponent, A person can not be identified through it physical appearance and hence have to undergo a series of test
it can due to the execise and the tablets or any other medicines they take for several reasons (especially women)
See the harmones in male and female are basically the same but it depends on the proportion in which they are present and as regards to other masculine things that depends on the Y gene.
