I think that Nanaji has hidden the actual truth from ever1, except Shanky

In the flashbacks they don't show nana's face, they just show hands taking off the mask

Shanky seems to remember more about this then Nanaji himself

Shanky may have ended Nani's life, for the same reason Nanaji claims to have.

Shanky is a very loyal person for Nanaji and a good friend, nanaji would never get rid of him, he didn't want anyone else in the house to treat shanky badly, so he took the blame upon himself. He also knows how much trust Kaira has on Shanky so he would never reveal the truth to her, because she is already beyond shattered and especially with her trust issues, it would be impossible to let the truth out now.

My two cents, wondering if anyone else has similar thoughts, or reasons why that may not be the case :P
