reena's stars : Divya Dutta
It's a small world
Actress Divya Dutta proves that good things come in small packages. After having proved her mettle on television and then in films like Veer Zaara, Divya is at a stage in her career where things look promising. To begin with, she recently moved into her new 2-BHK Juhu home on her birthday, on September 25. "This was the best gift I could've given myself," she says
1. Come into my parlour
Divya's struggle to achieve recognition started 12 years ago when she moved from Ludhiana to Mumbai. Well-read and articulate, Divya always knew that she wanted to make a career in the Hindi film industry. "Fortunately my family supported my decision," she says. And then it was Mission Mumbai for Divya. "It's been a tough but worthwhile journey," she says. Divya feels that her new house is like the icing on her cake. The Ganesha idol on the unfinished wooden main door of her apartment welcomes you into the Dutta household.
2. Sofa so good
Coming from a family of doctors, Divya had no choice but to complete her education. "I didn't want to be a college drop-out and then regret it later!" she laughs. Divya lives with her mother and brother who moved to Mumbai five years ago. "I need someone to take care of me all the time," she says. No wonder that her friends feel that she's a child-woman. "I switch moods at the drop of a hat. One moment, I'm all serious and the next moment I turn into a prankster," she says.
3. Popeye's girl
It is said that a home reflects the thoughts and persona of its inhabitants. "I love colours. After a hard day's work when I come back to a bright home, it feels great," says Divya who also loves to experiment with colours when it comes to her clothes. Be it salwar kurtas or western outfits, she picks it up as long it looks bright and cheery. "Recently, I was in Karachi and I went berserk shopping. My colleagues had to pull me out of the stores," she smiles. Is there an outfit that she is uncomfortable wearing? "The sari. I just cannot handle it," she says.
4. Cosmetic change
Evidently, Divya's mother has issued an ultimatum to her – that either Divya or her huge collection of cosmetics can stay in the house. "I spend a fortune on cosmetics. My mother has a habit of giving away pieces of my collection to people. From perfumes to nail polishes to gloss, I can't resist buying them," she says. For Divya, quality is of utmost importance. "My skin breaks out into a rash if I wear make-up of unknown brands." When not shooting, Divya avoids make-up. And Divya can get ready for a party or an event is seven minutes flat.
5. By the grace of god
Divya has her communion with God twice a day. "I don't know the definition of religion," she shrugs. The actress starts her day by saying 'Hello' to 'Ganu' (Lord Ganesha) and Sai Baba and gives a flying kiss to the two before going to bed. Divya dislikes travelling. "My profession is such that I'm living out of a suitcase." Any plans for marriage? "It certainly isn't on the cards. I believe that marriage will happen when it has to happen." Divya idolises Shabana Azmi and Jaya Bachchan. "It's commendable how they balance their marriage and career," she says.
