It should have been the song of 2006. The edgy, intense Ya Ali from Gangster lost its sheen after a Kuwait based band, GuiTaRa alleged that composer Pritam had copied the song from their Ya Ghali.
GuiTaRa's bandleader Fahad Shammoh saw the song on television and was shocked at the blatant plagiarism. And they are planning to sue. Their case is made stronger by the presence of Prince Al Waleed Bin Talal of the Saudi Arabian royal family. The prince owns the music company, which has the rights of the Arabic song.
He's now back in the news for getting 'inspired' for his hit song Kya mujhe pyaar hai (Woh Lamhe) from the song Tak Bisakah by Indonesian band Peterpan.
What does Pritam have to say about all this? He told a newspaper: 'There's no music composer who doesn't get inspired.' Indeed, it looks like this time his 'inspiration' is gonna cost a pretty penny.
