Later that day, before leaving Najma asked Zoya to accompany them to their place.

Najma: "It has been so long since we talked. Come along please."

Sarah: "You may go if you want to Zoe."

Part 14

Najma was really excited to hear accounts of all their adventures at the medical camp. She made Zoya narrate everything that happened at the camp. She did tell her almost everything except Asad giving her his coat and the Zain fiasco.

Najma: "So he really said you both were married?"

Zoya: "It was just his plan to make the villagers let us stay at their place."

Najma: "Oho he could easily have said anything else like you are his younger sister, cousin or whatever. Why did he say you people are married? Is there something fishy around here? I swear I can smell something cooking."

Zoya: "No there is nothing at all. You are just digging into it way too much. He just said the first thing that came into his mind. Actually something is actually cooking. Your neighbor Aunty Mishra is cooking lunch."

Najma: "Duh! And why exactly was this, the first thing that came into his mind?"

Zoya: "Urgh! I don't know. You are making much ado about nothing at all. I shouldn't have told you in the first place. So how was your week?"

Najma: "Forget about me. You are the one who had such an interesting drama packed week. Tell me more."

Zoya: "There is nothing more."
Najma: "Are you sure there is nothing more? You both spent a night in one room for heaven's sake. There must have been a scene there like a rip off from a C grade Bolly flick. As far as I know Bhai is straight. You know what I mean."
Zoya picked up a pillow from Najma's bed and hit it on her head.
Zoya: "Stop it yar. This is getting too much now."
Najma: "On a serious note I would love to have you as my Bhabhi."
Zoya: "Tamatar there is nothing like that. We are just friends."

Najma: "Everyone says that at first. I am feeling thirsty. Do you want some water?"

Zoya: "Yah."

Najma went away from there singing to herself.

"Kuch to huwa hai kuch ho gya hai'"

Asad was already in the kitchen when Najma went there. He smiled at her while she said.

"Kuch kuch hota hai bhai."

Asad: "What?"

Najma: "Nothing. I was just talking to Zoya that it's a good movie."

When she was going back to her room with water bottle and a glass in her hand she saw him again. While passing by him, she sang loud enough for him to hear.

"Love is in the air."

Asad: "Did you say something to me?"

Najma: "No I am just singing. It's a good song. Isn't it?"

Asad: "Err yah. Carry on."

"No, I am not going to bring some romantic crap or any stupid chick flick."

Asad out rightly refused Najma and Zoya's choices of movies. After a lot of bickering they finally gave in to his demand of watching the movie of his choice. He went down to the DVD shop nearby while Zoya and Najma decided to make some snacks.
Asad stood near the DVD player to insert the disc into it and Najma went to bring eatables. Zoya switched off the lights to create a suitable ambience to watch the movie. As Asad turned around after switching on the TV, his heart skipped a beat by just looking at her. She looked really beautiful with her hair let down on her shoulders and the light from the TV made her skin look very radiant. She stirred something in his heart like no other woman had ever. She, completely oblivious to the fact that he was constantly staring her, moved the cushions on the sofa to make herself comfortable. He was brought out of his reverie by Najma as she plopped herself on the sofa on Zoya's right and said.
"Bhai move out of the TV. No one here is interested in watching you."
Asad: "Uh, yah."
He walked to the sofa to sit. He sat beside Zoya on her left as it was the only empty space on the sofa. Initially Zoya kept passing comments on different scenes in the movie. She stopped when both Asad and Najma asked her to shut up. For the first hour or so all three of them were completely absorbed in the movie. When he felt something heavy on his shoulder, he turned to look at his right. After Najma, Zoya had also fallen asleep with her head resting on his shoulder. He felt his heart pace faster than usual just like the previous time she rested her head on his shoulder in the bus.

"The movie wasn't that boring!"

He said to himself. He slowly got up, making sure not to disturb her and brought a blanket from Najma's room to cover both of them with it. He bent to pick up an empty chips packet from Zoya's side. Unintentionally he got quite close to her face. Being in such close proximity with her he felt a strong urge to kiss her cheek. She looked so adorable and innocent while sleeping. As soon as he registered the thought he cursed himself for even thinking this way and got up and left for his room after switching off the TV.
As he paced in his room he thought to himself.
"What the hell is wrong with me? Why am I suddenly feeling so attracted towards her? Okay not suddenly but why so strongly all of a sudden? It was okay till the dreams part but ... Am I falling for her? No! It's just that she is the first person I have shared so much with about my past. Something I haven't done with any other friend. She is just a special friend. A very special friend. Man! I should just get a grip on myself."

They next morning when Zoya woke up, she saw Najma standing at the main door laughing at some stupid joke Hammad had cracked. He had come to pick Zoya from Asad and Najma's place. Seeing them so absorbed in their conversation, Zoya thought to herself.
"Tamatar g this Bhabhi idea of yours is good. Only if you become mine. I should think of some way to hook them up."
She smiled to herself at idea as she moved ahead to greet Hammad.

"Arey not a problem! Asad beta here can drop us home. Won't you beta?"

Haseena asked him trying to be extra sweet. She had come to Zoya's place with her daughter Salma. Actually she had heard Sarah telling Zubair that she had asked Asad and Najma to come over for dinner the last time she had visited. As per her plan she had brought Salma along after making her dress up especially for the occasion of meeting her "future husband" for the first time. When they were done with the dinner, Haseena made up some excuse of Guddu not being able to come to pick them up. Hammad had a test next day so he could not go.

Asad had been trying to avoid the creepy girl with heavy make-up throughout the evening. He felt as if she was following her everywhere he went. When they sat down to have dinner, she occupied the seat next to him. When he tried to have a casual conversation with her with Najma, Zoya and Hammad, she blushed profusely and fluttered her eye lashes every time he said something to her. Zoya and Hammad were closely observing her antics and trying really hard to suppress their laughter. Both of them knew very well, what Haseena was trying to do.
Asad was in a fix when Haseena asked him to drop them home.
Zubair: "Bhabi I will drop you. He doesn't even know the way. Secondly their college is reopening tomorrow, so they need to leave."

As she didn't have any excuse to that, Haseena did not argue further.
After Haseena left, Hammad said to Asad.
"Looks like we are soon going to be bound by a strong relation."
Asad looked at him confused at his remark. Hammad continued suppressing his laughter.
"Dude you are going to get married to my sister."
Asad: "What?"

Hammad turned his attention towards Zoya while Asad and Najma looked at him confused.
"Zoe just imagine. Asad and Salma. Salma ko mil gya Balma, Salma humko chor chali."

Both Hammad and Zoya burst out laughing at this. Seeing that Najma and Asad still had no idea what they were talking about, Zoya told them.
"Haseena Aunty seems to have taken a fancy for you Asad. She brought Salma along to make her meet you. Bechari had made quite an effort with the make-up and her dress to make you fall for her at first sight."

Asad: "She seems to be quite a character."
Hammad: "Zoe, by the way you and Asad would become in-laws then. Let me think what the relation will be. Salma's brother's..."
Zoya: "Shut up Hammad! Get a life. I am out of here."

Their classes had started again and the next few days went by without anything out of the ordinary. Hammad had finally gotten hold of one of Salma's pictures. He edited it and added Asad's picture with her. After captioning it,"Amar Pyar", he emailed it to Asad. He teased him about her at every opportunity he got. Finally he stopped after he got tired and the joke wasn't funny anymore.

"Aha! I saw the moon. There it is."
Hamza exclaimed excitedly. Hammad, Zoya, Hamza, Najma and Asad were all at the roof-top of the Faruqi's house for Ramazan moon-sighting.

Zoya looked up at the moon, closed her eyes, and raised her hands to make a prayer. From a distance Asad looked at pure hearted beauty and silently wished for all the happiness in the world for her. Hamza walked up to him and asked him.

"Asad bhai, did you see the moon?"

Asad still looking at Zoya replied.

"Yes, the moon is right in front of me."

Hamza: "Asad bhai why are we searching for the moon by the way?"

Asad: "This is the first moon of Ramazan. You know Ramazan is the holy month."

Hamza: "I hope Ammi lets me fast this time. She didn't let me last year."

Hammad moaned loudly.
"Yar where is it. I still can't see the moon."

Najma who was standing close by replied as she pointed towards the sky.

"There."

Hammad: "Where?"

She moved closer, took hold of his hand, raising his arm pointed his hand towards the moon. As soon as she did this, she realized she was standing too close to him. Quickly, she let go of his hand and moved back awkwardly. Hammad exclaimed loudly to clear up the awkwardness around them raising his hands as if to make a dua.

"Allah miyan! Please give a happy ending to Salma's balma and Akram's heer's love story."

He laughed loudly as two shoes were hurled at him from opposite directions, one by Zoya and the other by Asad.

The Holy month of Ramazan soon passed and finally it was the Chand Raat (the night before Eid.) Although they had completed the Eid shopping, but customary buying bangles and mehndi were the two tasks left especially for the special night. Najma and Zoya had successfully rounded up Asad and Hammad to accompany them to the bazaar.
