AsYa OS: The Forgotten Anniversary

The sunlight streaming in through the slit in the curtains fell directly on her peaceful face causing her to stir in her sleep. She stretched like a Cheshire cat smiling with her eyes still closed and patted the space on the bed next to her. A frown made its way to her face on finding the place empty and she opened her eyes a crack to glance at the clock and then with a low shriek, she sat bolt upright, her mouth gaping. The clock read 10:15 a.m.

"Allah Miya! What's wrong with me?! I can't believe I slept in so much! Why didn't Asad wake me up?" Cursing, she scrambled out of bed and started getting dressed hurriedly.

Asad had already left for office. Zoya frowned thinking why he hadn't awakened her before leaving. Then it hit her that he'd probably left her sleeping because they had returned home pretty late from the party last night. And thinking of party... It was their Wedding Anniversary today!

'Did Asad forget?' she thought, a little shocked. Just then, when her cell phone started ringing.

The blinking screen read, 'Asad Calling' and a huge smile broke on her face as she sang a Hello.

"Oh! Hi Zoya! You up?" Asad asked in a distracted voice.

"Yes," Zoya replied back slowly.

"Oh Good! Just wanted to make sure... Ok, I'm a bit busy right now, will talk to you later, ok?" he said in a hurried voice and hung up.

Zoya tossed her cell phone on the bed, seething. He forgot their first wedding anniversary?! How could he?!

She was in a foul mood as she got ready and put on a light make up as she knew everyone would be expecting that and made her way downstairs to the living room. She was pleasantly startled when everyone wished her a 'Happy Wedding Anniversary' together in one voice. Even Ayaan and Humaira were over. She smiled as she went to hug Dilshad while Ayaan started teasing her as usual.

By noon, Zoya had absolutely no doubt that Asad had indeed forgotten about their special day. And Najma further confirmed it by telling her that Asad had a very important business meeting today, that's why he left early but she too, was surprised to hear that he didn't even wish her.

They were still talking, well, talking in the sense that Zoya was angrily ranting how Asad was the worst husband in the world when Ayaan entered the kitchen with Zoya's cell phone in his hands and smugly announced that it's Bhaijan calling.

Zoya had to chase him down all over the kitchen before she finally managed to corner him with a little help from Najma and Humaira and snatched her cell phone back.

Najma laughed as Humaira took hold of Ayaan's arm and literally dragged him out of the kitchen to give Zoya some privacy.

"Hello?" Zoya said breathlessly, picking up her phone once she was alone.

"What took you so long?" Asad replied in a slightly annoyed voice and Zoya's temper flared.

"Oh I'm sorry, I couldn't pick up your call because I was too busy dancing at my ring tone," She replied back sarcastically.

"Why are you in such a grumpy mood? Didn't get enough sleep last night?" He asked chortling.

Zoya couldn't believe this man. He had forgotten about their wedding anniversary and he was asking her why she was in a bad mood?! Arghhh! She could kill him right now!

"Asad, do you think I'm a child that I'll be in a crappy mood from lack of sleep?" She bit out.

"You sure do act like one," He chuckled merrily.

"You know what, Asad? I've got better things to do than talking to you, so Allah Hafiz!"

Tears flooded into her eyes as she jabbed the end call button angrily. It was no use talking to him. He was too busy with his office and precious meetings to remember such a trivial thing as a wedding anniversary.

'I won't forgive you for this one, Mr. Asad Ahmed Khan! Not in a billion years.' She mumbled.

She didn't feel like eating lunch but ate a little to avoid everyone's questions. And then when everyone left for their afternoon nap, she ordered an extra large pizza from the nearest bakery to drown her sorrows in.

As soon as the pizza arrived, she took it to her room, sat on her bed and began gobbling it down while mumbling to herself incoherently. She had just started on her second slice when she felt a familiar pair of arms go around her waist and she smiled involuntarily before realizing that she was supposed to be very angry at him.

"Can't you see I'm eating here?" She asked in an annoyed voice and tried wriggling out of his arms.

"Well, someone looks angry!" He murmured in her ear in a soft, husky voice, laughing lightly.

That set Zoya off. "You know what Asad? I was an idiot, a duffer that I married you!" She said agitatedly.

"I know, Jaan! But I was in love, didn't notice." He replied back, snickering.

It took Zoya a minute to understand what he said and tears welled up in her eyes as she pushed him away, "Go away Asad! I hate you!!"

"Don't cry Zoya! I was only kidding!" He said hastily. "Please don't cry. You know I can't stand your tears and you'll ruin your Mascara too' Have I ever told you how much I love your eyes when you put Mascara on?" He smiled at her gently, encircling her in his arms slowly.

"And I should be the one getting mad at you!" He continued, whispering in her ears, "You didn't even wish me a Happy Wedding Anniversary today! I thought you would remember but apparently not." His eyes shone mischievously.

Zoya quickly pulled herself away from his chest to look at his face and on seeing his eyes twinkling playfully, she almost jumped at him, circling her arms around his neck and crying out, "You remembered!"

"Of Course I did! Now are you ready to go out to celebrate-..." He didn't get to finish his sentence as he felt Zoya's soft lips on his as she gave him a passionate kiss.

They broke apart gasping for air with their foreheads against each other and Asad smirked, "Maybe, I should forget our anniversary every year."

"Only if you want to get your blood on my hands." Zoya told him breathlessly.

Asad chuckled loudly, "I've ruined your lipstick!"

"It's okay. I don't mind you ruining my lipstick as long as you don't ruin my Mascara." She replied back mischievously and Asad claimed her lips as his own once again...
