Mumbai Indians – Winners of IPL 2013
Even after all the controversy in IPL and the spot fixing issue it was time for the grand finale of IPL Season 6. As mentioned in our previous post IPL 6 finale : CSK vs MI , it was clash of the titans. Considering the track record of CSK in IPL, most of them might have cheered for Chennai Super Kings to win their 3rd IPL. But Mumbai Indians too had a chance to win based on their record against CSK. They had managed to beat Chennai twice before losing to them in the playoffs.
It was a jam packed stadium at the Eden Gardens for the finale. And Mumbai Indians had managed to win the toss and elected to bat first. Although they had a bad start, but Pollard smashed a 32-ball 60 not out studded with seven fours and three over-boundaries to push MI's total close to 150.
Mumbai Indians had managed to put on 148 runs on board after 20 overs. Some might have said that it might not be enough considering the batting line up of CSK and they have been know to be one of the most consistent teams in IPL. But it was not that case tonight. Mumbai had a fantastic start right from the first over. Malinga had managed to pick two wickets in the first over itself.
As overs passed by, CSK did lose on wickets regularly. And soon all the pressure was on Dhoni to deliver yet again. But he was losing his partners at the other end. Soon it was all curtains for Chennai Super Kings. Mumbai Indians finally managed to win their first IPL. They did ended up beating CSK by 23 runs. This was Mumbai Indians first IPL win and that came in the sixth edition. Remember they were Runners-Up in 2010 and not to forget that they won the 2011 Champions League Twenty20.
