From playing a next-door lover boy to a mentally challenged husband, Varun Badola has proved his mettle as a versatile actor. He is back on TV with acting and even writing for his new show Ek Chabhi hai Padoss Mein. Nidhi Mittal chats up the man

What's your latest serial Aek Chaabi Hai Padoss Mein all about?

The show has a unique 'slice of life' concept which is based on a mix of humour and strong emotions portrayed by characters which are essayed through their believable stories. I play Sandeep, who is a music teacher in a middle class mohalla that the serial shows.

Have you written for the serial?

Yes, I have written the dialogues for around 10 episodes. I have also written the second half of my serial Astitva and some other serials. I enjoy doing that. I also have an experience in handling camera, sound, everything that a production needs.

hat's a lot of talent in one person!

May be. But one never gets acknowledgement, leave apart appreciation. I've done a variety of roles, some of them were such that no actor has even tried. Koshish had me as a mad man. I did Astitva in which I played a complex role portraying an old man. Des Mein Nikla Hoga Chand had me as a different character altogether. And there is a list to add but critics never recognised my talent. They only criticised.

But you were appreciated in Nach Baliye.

It was only till I was in the show. After I lost, because I went blank, people came to me and wanted to know what went wrong. I would shout back at them saying why did they not vote for me if they are that concerned. One mistake and people and critics create a ruckus. No one ever said that I have done a great job. But now I don't care what people say and think about me.

How do you take your life and work?

I believe hard work and difficulties make life interesting and I have always faced difficulties. So, I have an interesting life.
