Most shows on Indian tv show domestic violence to some degree, but it is so normalised that Indian women probably expect it, whether or not they are willing to tolerate it is a different matter.

But Madhubala takes this to another dimension. I stopped watching it some time ago because I was so shocked by the abuse that RK shows towards his wife, and the fact that he is still the hero, and fans are still crazy about him. Yes, he is a good actor and a handsome young man. In most countries, a husband like this would be taken to court for various things. Yes, I am aware that he has reasons for his behaviour, but ask yourself how you would feel if your sister or best friend was being treated like this.

What are your thoughts??

ETA: I hope we are all aware that violence is not just physical.

Stay on the forum a bit and you will know the thoughts and opinions haven't changed much;).. Yes, there are a few of use who can see just how reviling and repulsive this character is. and understand just how torturous and painful the abuse Madhu suffers.
But be ready to argue at the most basic level, i.e. explaining even the meaning of 'abuse'. Cause apparently, as Madhu does not get beaten and physically exploited by RK , that means he 'truly' loves her , and has every right to call her his wife , even after having publicly and ruthlessly discarded her.
so.. there is no such thing as mental and emotional torture, no such thing as self-respect in love(oh, and this only where Madhu is concerned. For RK, there can be no limits in self-respect.).. nothing.

lol.. the latest norm is calling Madhu 'vamp' cause she decided enough's enough and now wants to teach RK a lesson. so yeh, after ALL that she's been through, she is only supposed to treat and 'cure' RK with immense patience and 'love'.. the 'love that is questioned by this arrogant %$#@ at the drop of a hat.

no wonder that forums' dropped down to 3 what with the bullying tactics too.. ;) be prepared.

oh , and in my opinion, we are way past the threshold of domestic violence. What they are showing now is abject cruelty.

I was just taking a look at some of the other posts and threads, so I understand that people will not be happy. But I am older than most people here, I think, and it completely amazes me that young women think that this is ok. And not women who live in rural India, but in urban India and NRIs. Women in general have such a low place in Indian society. We must let creatives know that these stories are not ok. It's one thing to depict violence and abuse, and another to show a hero doing it.

To put in simply, in 80s films, it was ok if Shakti Kapoor tried to molest someone, because that was his job, but Jeetendra could not do the same thing.

there is another show (quite popular) where the lead has hit women (protagonist and vamp) on two separate occasions yet the forum-verse justifies and drools over those slaps. So, expect more not less here considering anything not physical apparently does not qualify.

ah.. this is actually a very pertinent argument on this forum. Yeh, we too thought that the extent to which this character has fallen, would find at least the exposed and intelligent women/girls shifting from blindly worshiping and admiring the character. They would at least acknowledge that what he is doing is wrong, and unacceptable.
Sadly , the fanaticism only keeps increasing. and the line between the character and the actor playing him keeps diminishing. As a result, the other characters, however , dignified, blameless and right they may be, they get bashed to no end. and so are the people supporting these characters..their threads gets hijacked and run over with utter nonsense and bullying.
in that way, this forum has been run aground by teens and youngsters , by the way, who still amaze me with what they consider 'romantic' and acceptable.
