So I'm back! Yayyy, I didn't run away after just giving you all just one part of this. Hopefully this stability of mine stays ;)
Before I post the first chapter, here are a few notes and messages:
1. I don't pm. I'm sorry, I know that is the norm here, but it is too time consuming, and I rather spent time writing. I hope everyone who wanted a pm understands =)
2. The story might not be close to the storyline of the actual show, but give me that much, lol
3. It's hard work giving birth to a story and also making the characters appealing. It would be awesome if you all would like and comment to make things more fun, and it just feels very nice to come back and read the love.
Some messages to a few readers:
Thank you to all the readers who liked the prologue, and a thank you AND a hug to all those who commented ;)
To haruhi26 I'm quite humbled that you've been a reader of mine in the past. lol, I wasn't kidding when I said I don't finish my stories, but I'm HOPING I finish this one. I have most of it in my head already.
Chapter 1
The man of the hour – the man who had just a short while ago married one of the most important people of his life – was currently as far away from the same woman as possible. This of course, was done while still being in the vicinity, for it wouldn't do to add to the gossip to the guests. Arjun did not need more wagging tongues.
Standing in the garden where Sakshi and he had, just a few short hours before, taken the seven sacred rounds, pledging their life to one another, Arjun stood, miserable, and deep in thought.
He had never expected the day to come in his life, where he would be married to Sakshi. 'Bloody hell', he thought, as he sloshed his drink onto the grass, needing to cause destruction to gain semblance of the situation. Why was he never allowed happiness? Or why did his happiness result in the misery of others?
Blowing a deep breath out, he tried to think of what put him here. He had been 18 when he had seen his friend's sister for the first time, and instantly felt a connection. Sure, she was a kid, and she tagged along everywhere much to the misery of Sameer who didn't want his kid sister following him and his friends around the home. Smiling the first smile of probably the week, Arjun remembered how Sameer used to embarrassedly apologize profoundly for having his sister shadow them all the time, during his first few visits. After that it had become a habit. With every visit their friendship became even stronger, and finally many years later, when Sakshi wasn't just the kid sister anymore, both Sameer and Arjun used to wait for Sakshi to get home from school, or make plans to hang out after. She was no longer a nuisance, but an active part of his life.
Slowly walking towards the gallery of the garden, Arjun started to pace as he tried to figure out when it happened. Even now, so many years later, he didn't know the exact moment. Perhaps it happened when he had first seen her, peeping at him from the kitchen as he had waited for Sameer's mom to make them lunch eleven years ago. Or perhaps it had been a couple years later when she would make them the cutting chai he was so fond of, and they'd sit in Sameer's home watching movies. It could have also been when he'd punched her classmate who'd called her an "item". Clenching his fists at the memory Arjun remembered how Sameer had to peel him off the leach, before Arjun had killed the young man.
He didn't know when it had happened, but he knew one thing: the moment he had realized that he was in love with his friend's sister, he did the first thing any noble man did: he fled. He didn't want to think of her like that. Heck, she was just a kid, and he had almost 7 years on her. He was supposed to feel brotherly towards her, to protect her, and to give her his wrist on rakshabandhan – not his hand to hold him.
However, when the realization had hit him that he was in love with Sakshi, he did all that he could to try and avoid her. He also did the one thing that could have potentially harmed his friendship with Sameer: he had lied. He had started to make excused as to why he could not longer visit Sameer's home. Arjun figured if he didn't see her anymore, he would no longer be in love with her. Absence, he was sure, would eliminate all feelings. In a couple of months he would no longer harbor feelings for Sakshi, and all would be good again.
Of course, this is Arjun's story. Arjun never got anything easy, and so even though things started to change, nothing really did. He was still, he realized then, desperately in love with Sakshi. Even though he no longer spent time with Sameer at his home, Sameer would come and spend time at his. With each visit, they would talk of the new, but somehow, the conversation always went back to the old, and then the conversation would steer in the direction of Sakshi.
Sakshi, and how she was growing up.
Yeah, Arjun noticed.
Sakshi, and how started college.
Grown up, and pushed into the sea of hormone raged boys who would want nothing but to give Sakshi all the attention she deserved. Arjun would, he promised himself, kill each boy with his bare hands.
Sakshi, and how she missed having Arjun around.
Perhaps, Sameer always suggested, they should plan a visit. No? Okay, maybe later.
Sakshi, and how she started to work for a prominent newspaper.
And of course, with this, how she attended events, and no longer just wrote about the people on Page 3, but also one of the beautiful women who was ON Page 3.
Sakshi, sakshi, sakshi.
It was futile really – the more he tried to get away from her, the more he was immersed in her love and could not escape her.
Needing to take control over his life, Arjun nailed his coffin by outdoing himself on the stupidity scale: he got married… to Roshini.
