Dwelling on the Details: Mar Jayian...
{Episode 297} [Part 1] Lamhe...Velle Lamhe...
April 11th, 2013: "Lamhe...Velle lamhe...Velle pal yeh idhar-udhar tahel rahe..."
Mar Jayian...What a perfect day for this song sequence to fall on, with respect to real-time PV landmark episodes!
One thought that kept returning to me while I was watching this sequence for the first time today: "THIS is how to picturize a romantic song!" Beautifully done! Everything about it was beautiful!
I'm sure I could have devoted an entire post to that sequence alone, but, for me, this episode was like finding an oasis in a desert, so I have lots of things I'd like to mention!
Wedding Planning and "Important Work"
"Mr. Yash Scindia...Sirf 'thank you' se kaam nahi chalega. Itni badi khushi di hai! Toh itna bada gift toh banta hi hai, na?"
"Done."
With a wink and a smile, Mr. Yash Scindia promised Mrs. Yash Scindia a gift to celebrate the newfound happiness that seems to be poised and ready to cross the threshold of Scindia House. Now, a little while later, preparations and planning are in full-swing. Mr. Yash Scindia, dedicated wedding planner, has plenty of work to do...Plenty of work to do to prepare for his Bauji and Badi Maa's wedding...but as soon as Radha advises Aarti to stay home and rest, Yash quickly cooks up an excuse - "there's very little time and there's so much to do!" - to be able to stay back with his wife.
- Dedicated wedding planner? That he most certainly is! But he is also a devoted husband - completely devoted to his Aartj, to the point of being hopelessly and adorably lattoo over her. Think back to how he was a year ago (real-time, on their suhaag raat), and look at him now! It's so cute how Yash is all gung-ho about getting all the preparations underway; he is the first one out the door, almost ready to get into the car, raring to go...Until he hears Radha say, "Aarti Bahu..." that is. That's all it takes for his attention to shift. He hangs on to every word of his Badi Maa's suggestion, listening closely. Not one to miss out on an opportunity to spend some rare and precious alone time with Aarti, Yash immediately brings up his excuse.
- I know that Aarti can talk a mile a minute...Seeing Yash doing the same thing here is hilarious. He's so eager to stay home (I mean...help with the work) that he attempts to convince Pankaj exactly why the rest of them should go without him, speaking super-fast, as if this is a do-or-die situation 😆. Aarti senses exactly what Yash is trying to do...but so do the others! 😆 They play along, with Pankaj telling Yash to work hard and work properly, while Yash spares a strained smile in response (LOL, Gurmeet's expression!) and immediately moves aside to be closer to Aarti.
- Note that Yash backs away from the cars, facing Aarti; his back is to Ishita, blocking her out of his field of vision completely. She is pretty much a non-entity since she has no claims to his affections - we know that she thinks otherwise 🤔 - and Yash understandably has his entire focus on Aarti. Ishita's eyes are trained on Yash and his interactions with Aarti...Her expression as she watches Aarti and Yash's little eye conversation as if it's hurting her so much...This girl is odd. Very, very odd.
- Aside: That tune during Yash-Aarti's eye conversation! So great to hear it again! Yash keeps trying to catch Aarti's eye. When she finally looks up to meet his eyes and raises her eyebrows at him in a nonverbal question that I read as something like a "So...? Now...?" Yash is all like, "I managed to stay back here with you! Am I good, or am I good?" 😆 "You are too much, Yashji..." Oh, these two. Gurmeet and Kratika are pros at Yash-Aarti's eye conversations by now - they were already fabulous at executing them a year ago, when the first SR episode required them to convey everything nonverbally - and I think they do such a great job bringing in new nuances to every silent scenario they have to enact. Very cute!
"Mere Bhagwaan Ki Kasam...": Yashji's Bhagwaan Ka Ishaara
Maya Bua! Mere Bhagwaan ki kasam, she was a treat to watch today! Maya has been both a source of irritation and comic relief in the past, and I, for one, loved when her bitterly prophetic statements or sarcastic jibes were either turned on their heads and/or fulfilled against her wishes (Aarti-Yash being the next Laila-Majnu, for example 😆). Ever since Ishita, the aastheen ka saanp, entered the household, Maya has been weighing the "Bechari Bahu" against "Aarti Bahu" - she seems to have reached the conclusion that Aarti is the "lesser evil" of the two young women...Let's see how long that will last! I wouldn't mind if Ishita remains on a lower pedestal forever, to be honest, based on her current behavior trajectory. But I digress.
Buaji is minding her own business since Ishita has taken over her job of spying and eavesdropping...She senses someone behind her, and stops, confused. We don't see anyone, from the camera's vantage point within the children's room (very cool camera positions in this episode) but a few seconds later...
- Yash (with Aarti clutching his arms, propelling him forward from her position behind him) comes cruising into view, halting abruptly, inches behind Buaji. Ananya, Gurmeet, and Kratika have the funniest expressions on their faces during this "speed bump and detour" scene! They are fabulous! What I love most about this part is that the comedy is situational and none of the actors are acting to consciously make the audience laugh with exaggerated movements or expressions. They're in character, as they should be, and therefore, their reactions are funny because they are comically natural.
- Yash and Aarti end up circling Bua, and I love how the camera lets us see Kratika shuffling along behind Gurmeet, trying to stay hidden while looking at him with "Oh God! What do we do now, Yashji?" expressions. (Aside: Kratika's height really makes this situation even funnier, because we can partially see Aarti peering up at Yash or at Bua from over Yash's shoulder, and the camera catches both Gurmeet and Kratika making some really cute expressions, haha. No extra camera angles required!) Gurmeet, for his part, looks so intense during all this fancy maneuvering! 🤣 When Yash comes to a stop while Bua is talking about her prayers, it's like he's thinking, "Aargh, now which way are we going?" and then Aarti gives him a "What now? Which way?" look before they continue playing hide-and-seek.
- The mad dash into the children's room, which is the only room with an open door: Safety! 🤣 Pretty cool how we can see Yash grab hold of Aarti's hand while he's making that adorably hilarious expression facing the open door. It's also sweet how Yash makes sure that Aarti is hidden from view while Bua is yelling her "Bhagwaan ki kasam" and running into the room after the "invisible" duo.
- A detail that I want to mention because I think it is also very cute: Aarti clutching onto various parts of Yash's shirt while making exasperated expressions. Oh, and also...Yash's focus on whether or not Bua was going to come into the room and discover their hiding place.
Like many of the memorable "locked in the bathroom" incidents in the past, Aarti begins to panic when Bua closes the door behind her and locks it from outside. Yash, on the other hand, is cool and relaxed, probably thanking his Buaji's Bhagwaan for the unexpected detour that came up just as he and Aarti were possibly attempting to get to their own bedroom.
- "Aartiji, ishaara samajhiye! Sirf main hi nahi! Bhagwaan bhi chahta hai ki main aapke saath rahoon." And then..."Mere Bhagwaan ki kasam." I love the way Gurmeet says "Aartiji" when Yash stretches the first syllable of her name, I love how he delivers these lines with a smoothness and just the right amount of emphasis to convey Yash's unconcerned-and-happy mood in contrast to Aarti's worry. I also love the little blink that Gurmeet does when Yash quotes Bua! 😆 How much more endearing can this man get?
- Aarti is not impressed. She is not happy about this at all, and tries to make her concerns get through to her relaxed husband. He responds by calmly crossing his arms and telling her to relax because..."Mere paas, na, phone hai." First thing that came to my mind? Throwback to Episode 70, when Yash left his phone in the car on the day he and Aarti were found at Cafe Delight again [May 25th, 2012: "Woh toh aadat hai aapke...Arrey, mobiles toh hote hi issiliye ki aap unhe sahi time -"] I pretty much laughed and cheered out loud when I watched Yash searching his pockets one after another. Nope, Aarti is not happy. Not happy at all.
*To Be Continued! Working my way through the episode still, posting in installments!*
A/N: I can't believe that while I was setting up this post, people were thinking of ways to bribe me to write something about the Mar Jayian sequence...Strikes, laments, tantrums...You know who you are! 😉 *sigh* Your support is what keeps me writing these reaction posts! And a shout out to all those who have read any of my previous DotDs: Thank you so much for reading through my musings!
A/N #2: *looks at the current state of DotD 297* Given the length of this post and the fact that I haven't even gotten to the song sequence yet, I am sensing the need for another post. 🤔

Please write it soon. I've been waiting for so long to read your detailed analysis on AarYa's special scenes.

You haven't done one in a long time, well it's about time to do so 😛

Borna! 😃 Great first installment! Along the lines of what we had spoken earlier in the KS thread, I'll be using portions of my own review to respond, adding more thoughts I have along the way. I'll probably just compile them all in our usual discussion place later on.

It's so cute how Yash is all gung-ho about getting all the preparations underway; he is the first one out the door, almost reading to get into the car, raring to go...until he hears Radha say, "Aarti Bahu..." that is. That's all it takes for his attention to shift. He hangs on to every word of his Badi Maa's suggestion, listening closely. Not one to miss out on an opportunity to spend some rare and precious alone time with Aarti, Yash immediately brings up his excuse.

This is what I noticed first as well -- the way Yash seems in earnest to get to the car and get going. But when Radha advises Aarti to stay behind, he stops in his tracks at the car door with an "Um, what?" written all over his face. So much for that initial plan of the mandir visit! And he's not complaining. He just comes up with a plan of his own, lol. As you mentioned, when we think back to where they both were a year ago after they were just married, I don't think either of them ever imagined he'd be as in-love with Aarti as he is now, willing to create any opportunity by his own will to be alone with her. But I think this is so Yash when he's in-love. If my fuzzy memory serves me correctly, he made similar attempts to get alone-time and attention from Arpita in flashbacks. He knows how to get his priorities in order, lol, but I think it's been some time since I've seen him as motivated as he is in this episode to be alone with Aarti.

- I know that Aarti can talk a mile a minute...Seeing Yash doing the same thing here is hilarious. He's so eager to stay home (I mean...help with the work) that he attempts to convince Pankaj exactly why the rest of them should go without him, speaking super-fast, as if this is a do-or-die situation . Aarti senses exactly what Yash is trying to do...but so do the others! They play along, with Pankaj telling Yash to work hard and work properly, while Yash spares a strained smile in response (LOL, Gurmeet's expression!) and immediately moves aside to be closer to Aarti.

Oh, I love that little knowing smile Aarti gives, cementing how well she's come to know him. On the others' reactions, that's how I read it as well. Vidhi and Pankaj are so on to him, it isn't funny. Well, actually, it is. 😆 Vidhi, in particular, makes me laugh because she keeps giving them the "I know what you two are up to" eye, lol. Even as they're driving away, she's smiling at Aarti. But it just shows how transparent Yash usually is with them and how well they know him. I think this plays into the jocular way they deal with their discovery of Yash and Aarti later on.

- Note that Yash backs away from the cars, facing Aarti; his back is to Ishita, blocking her out of his field of vision completely. She is pretty much a non-entity since she has no claims to his affections - we know that she thinks otherwise - and Yash understandably has his entire focus on Aarti. Ishita's eyes are trained on Yash and his interactions with Aarti...Her expression as she watches Aarti and Yash's little eye conversation as if it's hurting her so much...This girl is odd. Very, very odd.

Odd may be putting it mildly, Borna. Ishita is legit yet functionally cray cray. One pretty consistent thing with Yash so far in regards to Ishita is that he treats her like he treats his other sisters-in-law. And, as you rightly said, that's the crux of the problem for her. Any hint of affection/intimacy/closeness between Yash and Aarti, especially from Aarti's end, flips her brain. Out of everyone in the family, only she seems confounded by his quick shift in plans and his transparent cover. She doesn't seem confounded by the shift itself, but really by the motivation for his shift -- Aarti. In her mind, Aarti is the "other woman". It's an infatuation/unfulfilled need that has gone completely out of control with no help or encouragement from Yash. What might have bugged her the most is that Yash and Aarti (and Bua) would be alone in the house. Add to that, their silent conversation is a follow-up to Aarti's spontaneous hug and their "Mr. & Mrs." whispered conversation earlier. I think it's too much for her brain to handle in one go.

Am I good, or am I good?" "You are too much, Yashji..." Oh, these two. Gurmeet and Kratika are pros at Yash-Aarti's eye conversations by now - they were already fabulous at executing them a year ago, when the first SR episode required them to convey everything nonverbally - and I think they do such a great job bringing in new nuances to every silent scenario they have to enact. Very cute!

I must confess that I didn't pay attention to the background music, so focused I was on Yash and Aarti. 😳 But, IA, on your reading of their little silent dialogue with their eyes and nods. He seems so pleased with himself on his slick exit from the trip, lol, and she's so amused. Yash, Aarti, and their flirting. Seriously, these two! Why so aborbs? Why? ❤️

I'm looking forward to reading your follow-up. I'll edit my post along the way as well.
