Ash's performance in Umrao Jaan was praised and applauded....If we read the review,most of them say that Ash was the saving gracem,or that barring her and shabana,nothing else was good....The movie wasnt that great,due to the dragging storyline ,but Ash's performance didnt garner flak 😳


Ash has done good work in HDDCS,Devdas,Raincoat,Chokker BAli,her TAmil movie Kandukondein Kandukondein(She was brilliant in that,Albeit the movie also had TAbu,who is a brilliant actress,Ash did shine in many scenes)Taal,Umrao Jaan...She was very good in Khakhee,Shabd albeit those cant be called earth shattering performances,she was GOOD nevertheless...Ofcourse she's no Kajol,but she's definitely as good as Priety ,Kareena etc...Even KAreena hasnt had a hit since K3G,but she doesnt become any less an actress....

When it comes to the "queen",along with acting,alot of other things matter too..Like fan following,popularity,dancing prowess,screen presence etc...The poll didnt call her the best actress,it said she's the biggest star,which she is,because she is the ONLY one who has featured in many crossover films,and had international recognition and has been voted the 9th most beautiful in the world...All these are laurels which others dont have!

ya its true that she is no less then any preity or kareena... but wen they state her as a bollywood queen they do also mean her acting ability.... and in my opinion i feel that one cant be called the queen of bollywood wen one's films r not getting appreciated at the box office... and wen one's films arent getting appreciated that much (i mean we all do expect a lot from ash wenever her films release) then how can we call her the queen... being gud in everything that u do and then being called the queen is perfectly fine... but wen ur gud at everything but have been failing to do one thing in particular, then u cant be reigning bollywood or any other film industry.... yes, kareena hasnt really had any hit after K3G, but who calls her the queen of bollywood... shes just popular, but then again wen it cums to acting she isnt really rated amongst any of the best... the acting factor always counts, widout a doubt ash has performed brilliantly in her earlier films, but in recent times u dont really see her as impressing... being in wonderful films and having great characters is sumthing that not every actor gets, and yes ash is out of those who has gotten various roles, but in how many has the public appreciated her, how many performances have ppl seen and turned around and said that this performance crosses all others, and impressing audiences is sumthing that counts the most.... and this is more than just an opinion its sumthing that doz happen wid ash and her performances ... wen rani wasnt popluar y was that so... cuz she wasnt being appreciated 4 her acting ability, everyone always stated that she has nice luks, a nice smile, ability... but was she really showing her potential at that time?, but wen she did in her recent films... everyone appreciated it , she showed through her performances and through her acting that an actress can only get appreciated, wen she shows wat she has within her... luk at salman khan in the actors, he has been in the ranks of the most handsum men in the world... he has starred in a hollywood based film, he has the luks, he has a huge fan following, he can dance no less then any other actor around, he has a strong presence onscreen, he has shown so much potential in the beginning of his career, but his he called the king of bollywood?... no, cuz his acting ability arent strong as others, so the point im trying to prove is that not unless u prove constantly wid ur performances that u have great acting ability, and on top of that u have to make the audience appreciate wat u do... if u really dont accomplish that, then in my opinion u cant be called the queen of bollywood, or at least for that specific time.

I brought in the Kareena angle just to prove my point that Box Office success alone isnt the yardstick to measure the acting prowess…..Applying that logic,the best actor award should go to the actor who featured in the biggest hit of the year…The best actor award in 2005 should have gone to Salman because No Entry was a bigger hit than Black……SOunds ludicrous,right?...Thus its not the Box office alone that determines how good an actor is….If we strictly go by box office results,Hrithik should be winning the best actor award this year,when in actuality there were better performances by Aamir,Saif,Sanjay Dutt and hopefully Abhishek(in Guru)….Kareena hasn't had a blockbuster,but she IS a very good actress(She was very good in Dev,Chameli,Omkara,Yuva,Aitraaz)….These movies would have been flops/average,but doesn't make her any less an actress… 😊

Yes,acting prowess does matter,but Ash isnt all that crass either…She HAS delivered powerhouse performances/Good decent performances in the abovementioned movies…She isnt a crass actress,she isnt the best so as to speak,but she isnt the worst either…She might not be as fantastic as Rani,but she's at par with Preity,Kareena,Priyanka etc…....Priyanka's turning to be a one film wonder when it comes to performance,after Aitraaz,she hasnt done anything very great...Ditto for Preity,most of her hits have been hits because of SRk/Hrithik/Salman...Ash DOES score reasonably well in the acting department,given that most of her movies didnt have A grade heroes

Ash didn't do many Indian movies last year,thus we havent seem much of her lately,Rani has been doing many movies,thus her presence is felt…Besides,I wouldn't concur with you that Ash gets A class projects,she infact has been getting good projects only this year……Ash stopped working with Salman,thus hurting Bhansali's ego,thus he stopped working with her…Ash had a fall out with SRK and Aamir,thus she didn't work with them…Hrithik didn't want to work with her till 2 years back,strangely he and his daddy dearest felt that she is "too old" 😕 for him(and now these two are eating their hat 😉 …haha 😆)…John wasn't there till 2003,thus the only heroes left for her were Sanjay Dutt,Ajay Devagan,VO,Akki etc…Ash WAS getting good projects after Taal and HDDCS,but she antagonized Salman,with more than half of the industry siding him…In this extremely male dominated industry,where Salman weilds so much clout,its a great achievment that she had survived the onslaught…Rani didn't have to face any such problem due to which she had to lose out on projects…...Ash infact is getting "GOOD projects with GOOD directors" only lately,so I think we can judge after another year or so

Rani has had hits,most of them being with SRK/Salman……How many hits has Rani had outside SRK/Salman/Yash Chopra banners…Thus those movies werent really the acid tests,as SRK's cliched movies work anyways…Even Rani needed good directors to extract good work from her,She too hasn't performed with B grade heroes and Mediocre directors…Rani and Priety have Yash uncle too,Most of YRF movies work…And Rani didn't face problems of the kind Ash faced,wherein she lost out on good work

About Salman not being the King,albeit he's handsome…Well,Ash is far more popular than Salman…Ash has been featured in popular American talk shows,she endorses international products,she's been to the Cannes film festival,once as a jury member,and once to inaugurate,She has done many more crossover/Hollywood films than Salman has…She's definitely more popular than Salman…

Errm,I know this got too long 😆 ...Bottomline..Rani's a fantastic actress,and she's undoubtedly the best actress in Bollywood for the next 1 year(Vidya Balan might take over after that,she too is shaping out to be a exceptional actress)…If acting alone is the yardstick,Rani wins hands down…But when it comes to popularity,international recognition,demand,acting,dancing,beauty…when every factor is encompassed,Ash wins…

Buffie i totally agree with you..ASh wins the tiltle if it was abouther recognition, international and beauty.

But here were talking about Queen of Bollywood presently, and in my opinion were not talking about which banner film, co-stars and directors but box-office hits in "Bollywood". reigning actress in bollywood. The actress who has the most hits and the most popluar actress, in my opinion at the moment it is Rani mukherji.
But with the upcoming films of Ash, she may not be that behind 😉
