Very often I see the kids refering the term Desi...like my parents becoming typical Desi (Now Mariyam, donot kill me for this😛)

But what do we really imply by that, that they are being backward, or mor e protective or selfish or putting too much unneccesary pressure on you.

How do you take and why is it givne a term like Desi behaviour?

Need to know so that I can figure out when my kids will call me Desi mom😉

Now Mythalli , this is different then love and marriage topics😃😳😛

Its just a term which means that we are from the same DESH. Nothing to do with behaviour or backwardness etc. When I call someone DESI all I mean is they are from INDIA.
To me any INDIAN out of INDIA is a desi. He/She may be living in any other part of the world. When I mean DESI its just states the country of origin.
I have never been called a DESI MOM, but the fact remains that I am a DESI mom of AMERICAN kids. 😉 😉 😉

Desi Identity
The term comes from the Sanskrit ( ???? ) "Deœah" ("nation" or "the motherland") [10] and when pronounced as Deshi/Desi, it refers to something that has its roots in Desh/Des (Desi-Countryman, Desi Ghee-Indian Butter, Desi Dawaa-Home Remedy). According to Desi Knowledge, Desi is Hindi for "people from India".[11] As most of South Asian languages can trace their origins to Sanskrit, the word for country is "Des" or "Desh" in them. According to the Desi Clothing Company, it means "roots, pride and culture".[12] For Sandip Roy Chowdhury, Desi means a (South Asian) person coexisting with mainstream society. [13]

Thanks Sareg ji. 👏 But looks lie it is taken in to many aspects here. Desi kind of refers a generation gap. I rember some one commenting...we migrate but we impose our identity and culture at new place tooa nd it is desi panna...I could never find any logic there. Yes I also beleive in Jaissa desh waissa bhesh, but acknowleding and adopting out culture...is t backwardness
