Popular TV actors to give away prizes at post-match ceremonies

You've seen these characters sobbing, scheming and conniving in the four walls of their fancy homes. Now, for the first time, you will see popular TV actors at the Indian Premier League (IPL), that too, in a completely new avatar. They will present awards at the post-match ceremonies.

With Star Plus coming on board as the official partner of the IPL, the channel has roped in its favourite saasbahus to do these honours.

For the first match that will be aired today (April 3), Deepika Singh, who plays Sandhya in Star Plus's Diya Aur Baati Hum will be present in Kolkata to give away the awards.

Other names such as Disha Parmar (Pankhuri from Pyaar Ka Dard Hai Meetha Meetha Pyaara Pyaara), Jennifer Winget (Kumud from Saraswatichandra), Anas Rashid (Suraj from Diya Aur Baati Hum), Gautam Rode (Saras from Saraswatichandra), among others, will also be part of the presentation ceremonies.

A source says, "Deepika will give away the 'Nayi Soch' award. Keeping in tune with the tagline of the channel, 'Rishta Wahi, Soch Nayi', the award will be given to a player who, during the match, plays an innovative stroke or takes a catch in a unique style. Apart from awarding the cricketer, Deepika will also felicitate some NGOs who've been working for the benefit of society, especially women."

This new development is said to bring out the fresh rivalry between Star Plus and Set Max, which will be airing the matches. Reportedly Star Plus has paid R60- crore to become the official partner of the IPL, while Sony pays R900 crore a year for the broadcast rights.
