SaMud: Humaari pehli kamaai..

Kumud isn't someone who is all about talks. She meant when she said that she will help Saras through this whether he likes it or not. So despite being refused for her help, she secretly assumed the role of being his advertiser and made sure Saras sells all the pots. What really stands out for me in this character is how protective she has become when it comes to Saras in this gau hatya case. It is but obvious that the village will snub him, for in their eyes, he has sinned. It is expected. Yet, she takes it to heart because for one, she knows he is innocent and for another, she can see how honestly he is trying to make up for the crime he didn't commit.

And as for the title, how many of us expected Saras to give Kumud some bangles when he asked her to put forward her hand? I know I did. But I can't explain that surreal feeling I got when he handed over the day's earning to Kumud and said 'Humaari pehli kamaai..' It was a very simple and subtle scene, yet it managed to strike a chord. A very touching and palpable moment. It is a normal practice to hand over our first earning to our parents because they give birth to us, nuture us and make us who we are. Saras, on the other hand, gave his first earning in Ratnanagri to Kumud. Because here, she is his mentor. And apart from teaching him to make the pots, she helped him rediscover his hidden emotions, the part of him he had lost when he lost his mother. Maybe not completely, but Kumud has helped Saras find himself again. A comparison cannot be drawn between Saraswati and Kumud since they both occupy different places in Saras' life but they have played very similar roles of being his support system. After his mother, Kumud is probably the only person who has managed looked so deeply into him.
