Scene 1. Part 1
The breeze hit her open hair as if for the first time. She slowly moved a lock of hair from her face and placed her index finger on her temple. The road moved beneath her in a pace of its own, racing as one wave.
Shiv kept glancing at her sideways. His face etched with worry.
He did not wish to say anything to expose his feelings through his voice. He knew that his Anandi was very brave and what she was about to face was nothing compared to the mountains she had crossed with such grace.
He turned his face towards the steering and eyes on the road ahead.
Shiv and Anandi were heading towards Udaipur School of Social Work (Janardan Rai Nagar Rajasthan Vidyapeeth University). It was the first day of college. Anandi could not believe in the wildest dreams of hers that she, one day will actually attend college. That too attend it on campus!
Anand seemed to be lost in her own trail of thoughts
It had been 3 weeks since she had left Jetsar.
After coming to Udaipur her life had completely changed. Shiv and his family made it their priority to make her feel as comfortable as possible. Every passing day she felt more and more part of her new family.
She remembered clearly how the path she had decided to take today was paved.
"Ma main soch raha tha ki sanchi ke holidays bhi khatm honay ko hain tho kiyun na hum ek final 'complete family outing' per jain? suggested shiv after swallowing a piece of roti.
The entire family was having dinner. Anandi who was sitting besides Shiv, beamed at the idea.
'Han Shiv ye acha rahe ga. Abhi Anandi bhi kafi settled lag rahi hai. Ye sahih samay hai puray zor shor sey picnic per janay ka..kiyun didi?' asked Meenu beaming at Ira
'Mujhe tho koi problem nahi hai aur meray khayal main Mahi tho shayadh abhi sey hi packing per lag jayega ' said Ira laughing.
'Tho teekh hai, picnic ka plan pakka' said daddu smiling.
'Sanchi kay college shuru honay main abhi 2 weeks baki hain na?' asked Alok
'jee papa. ' answered Sanchi with a gloomy face
'Anandi, sanchi kay janay kay baad thum bore tho nahi ho jaogi?' said Shiv teasingly
'kya bhaiyyah aap bhi' said Sanchi angrily
Everyone laughed including Anandi.
' Han main bore tho ho jaungi' she replied back to the family's surprise. This is the first time she had ever spoken about the occasional stunts that Sanchi had been pulling on her.
Ira and Meenu looked surprised
'Sanchi jab hothi hai tho mera uskay saath waqt bohot acha guzartha hai. Khaas ker ke jab uskay friends aathay hain humaray ghar' she said
Sanchi's friends who had heard about Anandi's Ratan Singh capture were mesmerized by her and wanted to meet her. Sanchi had surprisingly arranged many such meetings with her friends, introducing Anandi to her friends. Though Anandi did not cater to praises, this was an exception that she was willing to accept.
'Acha, wow Sanchi, thumhari tho bohot demand hai yahan' said Mahi teasingly
Sanchi smiled and continued to eat.
'Papa, aapnay Udaipur school of social work kay baray main suna tho hai na. ' asked Shiv
'Han jis per thum chief guest ban ker gaye thay last year' Han yaad hai mujhe said Alok
' Main chahtha hun ki Anandi wahan per apni padai dobara shuru karay' said Shiv
Anandi who was about to put a morsel in her mouth dropped it in surprise. Her heart had suddenly thumping loudly that she was afraid it might pop out. She looked with a scared expression at Ira waiting for her outburst and then at Daddu, expecting them to rebuke Shiv for his crazy ideas.
'Ye tho bohot achi baat hai' said Ira with a twinkle in her eye.
'Han shiv , ye thumnay bohot acha socha' said Meenu approvingly.
Shiv then turned at Anandi.
'Sorry Anandi, maine aapkay saath iskay baray main discuss nahi kiya.
Main jantha hun ki aapko ayetraz kabhi nahi hoga agay padayi kernay sey.
Aur aap apnay aap puchnay sey tho rahi' said Shiv
Anandi could not help control her tears. She gazed at him with teary eyes, not believing her fate that had allowed a wonderful man as Shiv to enter.
'Hum abhi yahi hain, bhabi. Baki ki aankh micholi aapdono khanay kay baad ker lijiyega' said mahi naughtily
Anandi and Shiv both jerked, as if coming out of deep trance.
Anandi quickly wiped her eyes and smiled at Shiv.
Wow... So u finally made Anandi go ahead with her education...👏

Scene 1 Part 2
'Ahem .. ' coughed Shiv, trying to gain Anandi's attention. He noticed the crease on her forehead and could imagine what she might be thinking.
Wanting to change the mood, he slightly moved his hand towards hers, when a sudden moment on the road diverted his attention.
'Shayad is samay unsey kuch kehna sahih nahi hoga' thought shiv to himself as he continued to drive.
Anandi was still lost in her thoughts.
Just a few days back Anandi had received in mail the acceptance letter from the USSW (Udaipur school of social work). After the initial excitement, the truth of the matter finally started to sink in. Sanchi's words came back to her as piercing needles as Anandi looked at the letter.
'Bhaiyyah aapnay bhabi ka admission tho ker dena hai.. voh sabh teekh hai. Lekin bhabi college main jayengi kaise? Ghaghra aur Pallu main? Kithna embarrassing hoga na. Thank God main us college main nahi jathi!'
Shiv and the entire family glared at Sanchi with the exception of Anandi.
"Oh my God. ye sindoor hai? thumhari shadi ho chuki hai...ithni choti umer main?...'
" Oh God look at the jewelry"
"Thum ithni heavy jewerly pehen ker kaise rehthi ho?, Mujhsey tho kabhi bhi nahi handle hoga'
"I...isko English nahi samajh aathi" '.
Images of painful memory came flashing through her mind. Her visit to Mumbai. Jagya's embarrassment to introduce her. The college girls mocking her dresses and jewelry.
'Main abhi aayi..' Said Anandi as she got up quickly and went towards her room.
She could hear angry voices behind her but it did not matter to her. Tears were flowing through her eyes. Her heart was heavy.
'Mujhe laga tha ki Shiv kay pyar nain meray saray ghaav bhar diye. Lekin aise bhi zakhm hothay hain jo ithnay asaani sey nahi bharthay' she thought to herself.
She was so lost in her own thoughts that she did not hear Shiv come into the room.
He slowly placed his hands on her shoulder.
Anandi quickly wiped her tears and turned the other way to avoid gazing into his eyes. Knowing that, after the very first glance towards him she would be unable to stop herself from breaking down.
Shiv slowly placed her hand in his and made her sit on the bed.
Anandi was not looking at him
'Sanchi ki taraf sey main mafi mangtha hun. voh.. nadaan hai...'started shiv
'Nahi shiv' Said Anandi immediately.
'Maine sanchi ki baton ka bura nahi mana. Voh tho bus...' she stopped herself from going on
'kya Anandi?... said Shiv softly
'Mujhe nahi bataogi'
She knew that if there was another soul on this earth who could understand her more than herself, then it would be shiv.
Sadly Anandi narrated the 'entire surprise visit to mumbai' experience to Shiv. A chapter that she thought had closed forever once she had achieved her BA.
Shiv looked extremely serious.
'Har baar main sochtha hun ki main aapko jan gaya hun. Aapkay dukhon ko maine bhaamp liya hai..lekin... aap mujhe har baar galat sabith kerthi hain' Shiv said squeezing her two palms gently.
'Ithna dharya kahan sey paya aapnay?
Anandi looked at him surprised.
'Dharya?'
She had thought that her crying would make Shiv realize that she is not as strong as he had thought.
'Agar aisa haadsa kisi aur ladki kay saath hotha tho voh kab ki haar man chuki hothi. Lekin aap aaisi nahi hai. Aapnay na kewal us khatinayi ka samna kiya, balkay apni us kami ko mukamal bhi ker diya' Said shiv proudly.
Anandi looked at shiv speechless and with tears in her eyes.
'Aapko yaad hai, jab main ashima ko aapkay ghar leker aaya tha' Said SHiv smiling and wiping her tears with his thumb
Anandi nodded
'Aapnay kithi samajhdhari aur dheeraj kay saath Ashima ko shadi ka mahatv samjhaya tha, angrezi main?'
Anandi nodded.
'Aapko shayad pata nahi. Main bohot impress hua tha aapsey' Smiled Shiv
'Han , ye alag baat hai ki us waqt main pehlay sey hi aap per puri tarah fida ho chuka tha' smiled shiv slyly.
Anandi half laughed and smiled.
'chaliye. Abh aanson ponchiye. Bahar ma chai ke liye intezaar ker rahi hain' Said shiv
As they were about to get up Anandi pulled Shiv down.
Shiv became surprised but hid it quickly.
Anandi held onto his hands
'Jabh bhi maine apnay aap ko aisi rah per payah, jahan per agay ka rastha dhundhla dhundhla sa hotha.. aap ek nayi umeed ki kiran banker aa jathay'
'Aisa kiyun Shiv?
'..
'kiyunki main aapsey bohot pyar kertha hun' Said Shiv coming closer to Anandi.
Anandi smiled and slowly pecked his cheek with a sweet kiss
'Thank you shiv' she said
Shiv smiled at Anandi his reaction changing from surprise to contentment.
