HISTORY was created on Saturday night when Indar Kanhai became the first local artiste to have collaborated with an Indian playback singer.
"Nasha the concert" served as the launching pad for the album of the same title as thousands of Kanhai and Sanu fans came out with great support for the much-anticipated show.
Although the show was scheduled to start at 8 pm it did not get going until at about 8:20, but the wait was definitely worth it as the crowd danced and sang along to all of the items for the night.
No music concert can be complete without dance. The Clico Shiv Shakti Dancers graced the stage as they delivered an elegantly choreographed invocation dance praising Lord Shiva. The dynamic dance group who have performed all over the world rallied through two other performances for the night as the audience were reminded why the Clico Shiv Shakti Dancers have set the standard for Indian dance in TT.
Other entertainment for the night was provided by the energetic Malick Folk Performers whose routines have become well known for their incorporation of the cultural diversity of the nation.
Not to be outshadowed by the hypnotic movements of the dancers, the San Juan Young Stars tassa group thundered onto stage with their resident belly dancer to get everyone's feet kicking.
But it was a night of celebration as both Sanu and Kanhai entered the Centre of Excellence from the back of the audience and then made their musical way onto the stage as the stars for the night performed the song "Ankhion se" that features both voices on the album Nasha. Sanu then ventured into some of his most memorable renditions as the crowd went wild.
He even went as far back as the early nineties to restore the beauty of songs from the mega hits like Ashiqui and 1942: A Love Story.
He belted out melodies one after the other and was ably supported by the Active Trisul Orchestra led by Kanhai himself and aided by the musical genius of Indian musician, Prem Singh who has played music for over 200 Indian movies. When Kanhai put down his guitar and took to the microphone he thanked everyone for their great support over the years and said that Nasha was his dream.
The local Kumar Sanu as he is fondly called then proceeded to woo the crowd with some of his new melodies from the album Nasha and cover versions of songs by the likes of Kumar Sanu, Sonu Nigam and the legendary Kishore Kumar.
