Amdavadi Vrushika Mehta on showbiz, dance and more in a chat with TOI
It was a dream come true for newbie actor Vrushika Mehta when she grabbed the role of Sharon (she replaced Sneha Kapoor) in the popular youth show Dil Dosti Dance. While acting had never been on the cards for her, fate certainly had different plans in store. The small screen debutante got chatting with TOI on her show and aspirations.
Vrushika who was born in Ahmedabad but grew up in Mumbai, had heard about the auditions some time back. She says, "I decided to go for it. But my parents were a little sceptical about it and they told me — 'don't go, you won't get selected." The actress, who had initially planned to become a choreographer, adds, "I have been dancing since childhood and although I'm not trained professionally, I felt I could make a career in dancing. Acting had never even crossed my mind. Now that I get recognised as Sharon I feel good that I have created an identity for myself. I have done something in my life and can make my parents feel proud."
Vrushika, who replaced another actress for the role, was a little nervous about it. "It was difficult. Sneha had already made a mark whereas for me it was a new experience, because I'm a dancer. I have never acted in my life and did not even know how to act. I got a lot of support from the cast and crew; everyone explained to me the character, how I should walk and talk. Sneha was an excellent actor and a good dancer also. I think it worked out for me with everyone's support," she says.
Even for creating the chemistry with co-star Shantanu Maheshwari was the same for Vrushika. She says,"I was sceptical whether I would be able to match up to the level that was already established. But Shantanu made me very comfortable. I used to see his reactions and learn from him. I think the chemistry is building now and our scenes will get better."
But Vrushika says she is the polar opposite of her screen character. She says, "I am a simple caring and loving girl. Sharon has a lot of attitude. She is stylish; she is the diva of her college and is very concerned about what she wears and how good she looks. I am totally different, I wear whatever I'm comfortable in and I don't care about what people think." Apart from dance, which she quips as her biggest passion, the actress also likes to sketch. She laughs and says, "Most of my free time goes in listening to mom scolding me. She scolds me a lot."
Before signing off, she says in Gujarati, "Badha Amdavadis ne hu pranam karu chhu. I am happy that people have liked my character."
