The most gentle he'd ever been. His lips inches away from hers, "Can I kiss you right now?"
"Go for it", she closed her eyes awaiting his touch.
His lips pressed against hers. She played with his hair as he directed her to the corner bed again. She was kissing back, his tongue and teeth joined in. His confidence sky rocketed as his body fell on top of hers.
She was nervous, "Rishabh no. Just a kiss", her voice begged and pleaded. She knew she had unleashed a beast.
"Rishabh please".
He undressed himself and tore off her kameez.
"Please let me go", she was sweating and panting and crying and begging. He was lusting and laughing and violent and indifferent.
"Please", this was her last prayer before his atrocities began.
She slipped into a parallel reality; one with no Rishabh. The orange garden: with Nagpur oranges, the juicy ones reserved just for her. It wasn't working. She could feel his filth covering her. She dreamed a dream. Her new life, a game plan: she would murder him. Kill off this Satan. The pain went away, she was blissful.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Radha, eh jaldi neeche aaa. Eh Raadhaaa" (Come down quick, Radha).
"Someone call the doctor".
Several figures entered and left the basement studio in haste. Many minutes later, the doctor arrived carrying minimal medical supplies and quack job printed on his forehead. He checked for a pulse without success.
"He is no more. Took too many pills, I am sorry".
"This witch ate my prince alive. This witch", Radha pulled on Madhu's plates threatening to part the flesh from the skull.
She took the beatings without fighting back. She was numb, tears flowing down her cheeks and a deafening record playing in her ears. All she could think of was him.
The doctor left before the situation got out of hand.
"What do you have to say for yourself?" An old man approached the widow with angry eyes.
"I want him back. Bring him back", her tears turned to sobs and sobs to desperation. She missed him dearly. She hugged his lifeless body and kissed him several times over.
"Bring him back", she tugged on the old man's collar and then on Radha's.
Her cries were convincing. The family pulled her in for a hug.
Professional mourners were invited to remove her symbols of suhaag. First, came the bangles.
------------------------------------------------------
Rishabh twisted her wrists like a butcher killing the sacrificial lamb. The glass bangles pierced through her vessels letting out streams of red fluid. Her face moved aggressively from side to side. She put all her strength in to pull him away but, his lust was more powerful than her will.
"Laal saari, laal khoon, laal kayanaat", he screamed in her red ears.
---------------------------------------------------------
The women broke her bangles with force, reopening the barely dressed wounds on her flesh and her soul. Another loud cry escaped her mouth. Radha hugged her, expressing sympathy but, all she felt was disgust: with the mother and her dead son.
-----------------------------------------------------------
"You are mine to keep", his alcohol filled breath dirtied her scant body. His lips sprayed terror on her nerves.
------------------------------------------------------------
They wiped clean her lip stain: the red pigment he had slapped on her to hide the swollen blue mess underneath.
-------------------------------------------------------------
He chewed on her soft, white lip turning it red, redder, blue, purple. She begged for mercy. His hand reached for the crimson that marked her forehead- a symbol of his long life. He wiped it clean insisting it would not look good on canvass. She did not resist because she secretly wanted him dead.
--------------------------------------------------------------
And now, he was. The women poured gallons of water on her sindoor. Her heart rejoiced as her tears met the sorrows of mother earth.
--------------------------------------------------------------
He strangled her with the yellow beads of her mangalsutra. Her heavy breathing died down as she chocked more each second, on his saliva in her mouth.
---------------------------------------------------------------
The women broke open the last sign of his. Her marital necklace lay on the floor, each bead spread a distance away from the other.
---------------------------------------------------------------
His feet kept her hostage in their boundary. No matter how hard she tried to move, he would keep her firm and stiff on the broken mattress.
----------------------------------------------------------------
She reluctantly took his blessing- the blessing of her perpetrator, the blessing of a devil because by ending his life, she had joined the league.
----------------------------------------------------------------
He was done with her. Done with her.
"Done with you", the words rung in her ears as he pulled away from a heaving pile of flesh and bones. She draped the stained fabric to cling to the last spec of humanity that he might have spared. The last spec of kindness that would not make her hate the world. Every part of her body ached yet, she managed to crawl to the far side of the room and grab a drink: a jug full of khookari and rat poison. She mixed them well. Maybe he would ask her to have a sip but, she did not care. She would rather die than spend another second being his woman to toy with.
She offered him the drink and he chugged down the entire jug without a question. Her hands snaked on his bare back. He was surprised.
"Rishabh", she said. Her bruised face touching his smooth skin. "I want you to know something".
He looked at her anticipation, this was unexpected. "I was a lover before I was a monster".
She parted quickly and headed to the bathroom.
"I love you", his voice sounded empty and he doubted she heard him. Thirty minutes and two bottles of foundation later, she entered his den to witness a foaming body and a dead husband. She took a minute to absorb in victory before rushing upstairs, "Radha, eh jaldi neeche aaa. Eh Raadhaaa".
-------------------------------------------------------------
Her dream or her nightmare, take your pick, ended as Rishabh woke her up from a two day slumber.
"We made love two nights ago. I am pretty sure you have had ample time to recover. Although…."
He winked in a manner that only aggravated her more. She pushed him away with a new found strength. He was alive, alive and well. The death was all an illusion. She looked down and inspected the state of her wounds, all fresh and undressed. He had done the deed.
"Fierce", he supplied almost too proud of a job well done.
She did not cry. Instead, she threw, on his head, the first thing she could find: a vase.
"I asked you to kiss me, not penetrate me".
He rubbed his forehead and raised his hands in the air, not a hint of remorse in his body language.
"Hurry up, we have to paint".

Wow!! I bow to such brilliant writing!!! You made be believe he is dead infact I was happy.
For real? Thank you so much🤗but it's so happened Madhu also took the path of slipping into parallel universe imagining things with which one could escape the harsh reality though temporarily...my heart goes for Madhu and for all such women who are forced to lead such lives with so called husbands who are nothing but demonic morons!!! Needless to say brilliant update but a sad one!!I wrote this as an ending (with him actually dying) but something in me said not to end it like this. I just could not get myself to end the story here. Hope you like what is too come :)
