OS 2: Finding Khushi

Part 11

Section 1

"Now where will you run, Khushi?", he asked.

"Run?", Khushi tried to draw lots and lots of air into her lungs. She would need it by the time this ended. "Why should I run? And that too from you?"

Even in the dim light, she could see that hated eyebrow make its ascent.

"If I have to run from you, you should mean something to me. But you don't. So why should I run?" She tried to be calm & reasonable.

She could see red colour spread across his cheeks as his anger mounted.

"So I don't mean anything to you?", he bit out.

"No. Did you forget what you told me on Diwali night? That I don't mean anything to you. That you want me out of your life. That...", Khushi was all about reminding him about his harsh words and cowardly actions.

"Khushi!", he broke in.

"Ji?" She waited for him to find words, but they were not forthcoming.

So she continued. "What was it you said earlier? That I am trying to make you jealous? Why should I try to make you jealous?" She was curious.

Arnav jumped in with both feet.

"Flirting with NK, laughing at his lame jokes...", he fumed.

Khushi smiled. "Mr. Raizada, I am sorry to say this, but somebody must. You are not the centre of this universe you know. Everything does not happen to make you angry or to hurt you."

Arnav stared at her in the dim light, his chest hurting.

Her nose pin glinted and her jewels glittered.

"I am not your girl friend or your wife that I have to take your permission before I talk to another man or laugh at his jokes. Or worry that you might be hurt by my actions. I am free of you."

Arnav took a step forward, his hands raised to haul her close to him.

"And wonder of wonders, you are a free man too! Isn't that nice, Mr. Raizada? That is what you always wanted, isn't it?"

Arnav halted, his hands still raised.

"That poor fool, Lavanyaji, who dreamt of a future with you is in London now, leading her own life. And I, the bigger idiot who came here to make her fit into your family, am leading my life in Laxmi Nagar without disturbing you in any way. You are free of both of us. You should be bursting crackers and holding a party!", Khushi smiled at him, her eyes glittering with some emotion that he couldn't name.

"After all, you don't believe in love. You don't believe in marriage. And now there is no one pestering you to believe in either. You have successfully freed yourself of every bondage!"

Arnav swallowed past the lump in his throat.

"It is my misfortune that I will have to see you a few times every year.", Khushi said. "But I suppose it is no use lamenting about it."

Arnav stared at her. Khushi stared back at him, struggling not to let him know that her legs were trembling and her heart thundering.

"It must be time for the sagai.", Khushi finally whispered as she turned to leave the store.

She was leaving him. He couldn't let that happen.

She reached the door to feel her dupatta being pulled from behind.

She panicked for a moment, hid it from her face thanking the darkness, and turned to face him.

He was holding the end of her dupatta.

She tried to free it from his hold with a flick of her wrist, but failed.

"Chodiye hamein.", she whispered.

"No.", he said, pulling her dupatta. She fell into his open arms, flush against him.

He held her tight, his arms around her.

Khushi wriggled & writhed, trying to free herself, but his hold only tightened.

"What are you doing?", she finally asked, her heart in her throat, her breath a thing of the past.

"Don't you know?", he asked softly.

He bent to kiss her cheek, savouring the sweet-smelling soft skin with his hard lips...

Khushi trembled, and frantic to escape his insidious touch, struggled to move away.

But he held her without much effort, his strong, muscular arms subduing her easily. His fingers played over the silky skin of her waist, exploring dangerous areas with eager digits, making her catch her breath and struggle with a desire she had little previous acquaintance with.

He cupped her face in his hands, and looked down at her face that revealed her fascination for him and her craving for his touch, even in the dim light. Her laboured breathing and heaving chest were proof of how much his touch moved her.

"Now will you say that there is nothing between us, Khushi?", he asked, his husky whisper sending all her nerves dancing.

Khushi looked at him with wide eyes. What had she gotten herself into? Again?

She pushed him away, her panic lending her enough strength to thrust him away. He fell back against a rack.

The next thing both of them knew was a shower of white powder over them. A small bin with atta had overturned and blessed both of them.

They stood looking at each other, atta rising around them like a halo, the dim light giving the scene a dream-like appearance...

Khushi burst out laughing. She couldn't control her mirth.

Arnav watched her in silence, his lips quirking.

"Amanji should see you now! The great Arnav Singh Raizada! Covered in Atta!", she giggled.

Arnav smiled. "You are no better, Khushi Kumari Gupta!"

Khushi leaned against the wall, trying to get her breath back.

"Arnav Bhaiyya! Arnav Bhaiyya!", HP called, peeking into the kitchen to see if his master was there. "It is time for the sagai. Where are you?"

The smiles vanished. They looked at each other, urgency evident in their eyes.

Khushi quickly peeked in to the kitchen. It was unoccupied. She shook herself and her lehenga, sending a cloud of atta flying, and then darted out of the store into the kitchen to grab a couple of kitchen towels. She ran back into the dark store on swift feet.

She handed him a couple of the towels, and started to dust herself with the ones left.

Thankfully, the atta had not fallen on their heads. They shook themselves like wet dogs to loose the powder.

Finally, they emerged into the kitchen. They looked at each other.

Arnav 's dark coat had a white patch on the chest region. Khushi quickly wiped it off with her towel.

"You look OK now. Aap jaayiye. I will follow. Otherwise Mamiji & the others...", Khushi's voice trailed off.

"Khushi, tum theek ho?", he asked, concern lacing his voice.

"As fine as I can be after bathing in atta.", Khushi had to smile.

Arnav saw a discolouration on her neck. Dropping his towels on the platform, he cleaned her neck with his fingers.

Khushi's breath hitched.

He looked into her eyes as he wiped the atta off. Khushi looked away, unable to meet his eyes. The atta vanished, but his fingers still lingered on the silky curve of her neck.

"Do you really want to be free of me, Khushi?", he asked softly.

Smita,😊

Here is the interpretation for Part 11 Section 1.

Being closeted with Khushi in the store room, Arnav asked her where she would run now to. Drawing deep breath she countered him why would she run? And that too from him? Even in the dim light, she could see his trademark rise of an eyebrow. It irritated her as always. In a calm and reasonable voice she told him that if she wanted to run away from him he should mean something to her, But he doesn't. So why should she run? Her retort had his anger rise to the fore. It was evident from the red flush that had crept on his cheeks. Irked, he asked her then does he not mean anything to her? Refreshing his memory of the Diwali night and all that he had said, she told him that she doesn't mean anything to him. That he wants her out of his life. And when she was about to remind him of his harsh words and cowardly actions he broke in calling her name. Seeing that he was put in the back foot where he had nothing to defend himself with, he kept mum. She waited for him to continue but as he didn't show any inclination to speak, she continued to say, what was that he was talking earlier about. Trying to make him jealous! Why would she want to make him jealous? Her query was laced with curiosity.

Arnav getting the opening he had wanted, grabbed the opportunity. He listed that by flirting with NK and laughing at his lame jokes she was trying her utmost to make jealousy rear its ugly head in him. Khushi smiled at his thoughts and addressing him as Mr.Raizada, told him that she was sorry to say it, but was compelled to tell him some home truths. He was neither the centre of the Universe nor the Sun around whom everything revolves. Everything that happens is not to anger him or hurt him. Her words penetrated his heart, his chest constricted and hurt. Her nose pin twinkled and her jewels sparkled. Without mincing words she told him blandly that, she was neither his girl friend nor his wife to take his permission before talking to another man or laugh at his jokes, or worry that her actions might hurt him. She was not bonded to him. She was a free bird to associate with anyone she deems fit. She pierced his heart with bitter truth that he needed to come to terms with.

When he was about to heave her towards him, she continued to say that, he too was free like a bird. Wasn't that exactly what he wanted? Arnav's hand froze mid air.

Continuing her harangue, she told him that, Lavanya like a fool had dreamt that she had a rosy future with him and now is in London leading her own life. And she, who had come there to help Lavanya to adjust was oxymoronically being hounded, though she is leading her own life without disturbing him. He was now free of both of them and should be celebrating it in a grand manner befitting his status. Though Khushi smiled at him her eyes showcased an emotion that he wasn't able to fathom.

Continuing her tirade, she said that, when he neither believes in love nor marriage, with no one at his back to make him believe in them, he has succeeded beyond expectation to free himself of all these menacles.

Hearing her dole out all that he had dished out earlier, he felt a lump in his throat. He never knew that had he lashed her with wounds to such an extent, with his scathing remarks.

But she was not done yet. She bemoaned the fact that, it was her misfortune to inevitably see him a few times a year. Hearing her rant, Arnav was able to just stare at her only. He was rendered speechless now, knowing the repercussions of his actions and speech, done in anger.

"Speak when you are angry and you will make the best speech you will ever regret"

~ Ambrose Bierce

Khushi stared back at him trying to camouflage her emotions and how all this had affected her. She didn't want him to know that her legs were giving away and her heart was thumping away to glory. She whispered that it must be time for Sagai and headed towards the door.

Arnav Singh Raizada, who was thunder-struck and stood in a trance listening to all that she had to say realized that she was moving away from him. She was leaving him in a lurch just as he had done to her on that fateful night of Diwali. He with his own hands had turned the sweetness within his grasp into bitterness beyond conception just with his speech and actions! Unbelievable! What the! He couldn't let her leave. Her leaving him was not an option and that was not acceptable! He couldn't let it happen.

As she reached the door she felt a tug at her dupatta. She felt panicky, but quickly recovered herself sending up a grateful thanks to her stars for being confined in darkness and not letting Arnav see her expression. Schooling her face she turned towards him. The end of her dupatta was in his hold and her attempt to free it went in vain. She whispered to him to let go of her, but Arnav was adamant. Instead he pulled her dupatta making her fall into his open arms. As soon as she touched him he encompassed her in a tight hug and held her close. No amount of wriggling loosened his hold on her. With her heart in her throat, exasperated, she asked him what he was doing. Don't you know was his counter question in a soft seductive voice. He bent down and kissed her reveling in the softness and sweet smell of her skin with his hard lips. Khushi trembled and tried to move away from his loaded touch that always had her mesmerized. Her efforts to get away from him were effortlessly quelled by his strong muscular arms. His fingers splayed over her waist were exploring on their own, making her breath to hitch. She had to not only struggle against him but against herself too, for his fingers were arousing her like never before.

Cupping her face in his hands, he saw raw emotions playing unknown to her. He could see her fascination for him, her senses craving for his touch even in the dim light. Her heaving chest and panting breath were an indication as to how much his touch affected her. Noting all these to his satisfaction, he asked her in a husky whisper, will she still deny their feelings and say that there was nothing between them. His whisper thrilled her whole being.

Looking at him with wide eyes like a doe cornered, she groaned to herself what had she gotten herself into! And that too again! Pushing him with the all her strength derived from her panic she turned. Arnav staggered and fell on the rack. The very next instant they got a shower of white powder all over them. A small bin of atta had turned over and blessed them both. They stood looking at each other with the atta rising around them creating a misty world of their own with the Tyndall effect. Khushi was filled with mirth and burst out. Mesmerized by her laughter, Arnav had a slight quirk while watching in silence. Khushi giggled all the more imagining Arnav's assistant seeing him in his present condition. Her mirth effectively made him smile and say that she was no better off than him. While she leaned back on the wall to get back her breath, they heard HP calling out to Arnav, telling that it was time for Sagai. Their smiles vanished realizing that they were in a spot. With the flour all over them they needed to get cleaned quickly. Khushi peeking into the kitchen seeing that the coast was clear, shaking the atta from her clothes, crossing over to the kitchen with nimble feet, quickly grabbed a couple of kitchen towels and darted to the dark store. Handing him some towels both dusted themselves off the atta powder. Giving a final shake like wet dogs they emerged into the kitchen and checked each other. Seeing a white patch on his dark coat she quickly brushed it and asked him to go first saying that she would follow later. Otherwise Mamiji's hawk's eye and others too will not spare them. He asked whether she was fine. Hearing concern in his voice, Khushi smiled and said she was as fine as can be expected after a shower of atta. Just then Arnav's eyes found the remanants of atta on her neck. He brushed it with his fingers. Khushi felt that she had lost the very sense of need to breathe. Seeing that his eyes never wavered from hers while brushing, unable to withhold the gaze she shifted her focus. The atta on her skin had disappeared long back but his fingers kept rubbing her skin sending innumerable sensations into her being. Feeling the silky soft skin beneath his fingers in the gentle curve of her neck, he asked her in a soft gentle voice whether she really wanted to be free of him.

This update deals with some UNVARNISHED TRUTH that both Arnav Singh Raizada and Khushi Kumari Gupta needed to face.

We see Khushi Kumari Gupta doing what nobody dared to do. She stood upto Arnav Singh Raizada and dared to enlighten him with truth... unvarnished truth.

She drew home to him the repercussion of his actions and his speech on Diwali night. That is the unvarnished truth

"Learn this from me. Holding anger is a poison. It eats you from inside. We think that hating is a weapon that attacks the person who harmed us. But hatred is a curved blade. And the harm we do, we do to ourselves"

~ Mitch Albom,

The Five People You Meet in Heaven

She also made it known to him that every action of his bears its imprint on her every reaction now. That is the unvarnished truth

"Every action has an equal and opposite reaction"

~ Sir Isaac Newton

However much Khushi denies, her reaction to Arnav shows that she is never indifferent. That is the unvarnished truth

"The opposite of love is not hate, it is indifference"

~ Elie Wiesel

She is very much along with Arnav at what they feel, though she tries to resist it. That is the unvarnished truth.

"The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart"

~ Helen Keller

They care about each other a lot. That is the unvarnished truth

"Everything that happens to you matters to me"

~ Cassandra Clare,

City of Fallen Angels

Khushi is asked to come to face with the unvarnished truth that she never wants to be free of Arnav.

"The unexamined life is not worth living"

~ Socrates

That's it from me. Hope you enjoy it.
