1. Sublime irony # 1: The "happy family" picture exposed "unhappy family" tensions to which God was witness. Denial has been one of the primary coping mechanism of the Scindhias. They have been used to shoving things under the carpet and going on with life. But no more. With things being in their faces, there is nowhere to go hide, and there is no place to shove the dirt.
2. Sublime irony # 2: The school project of the children has become an effective way to put the family in the spotlight. The only spotlight that the Scindhias are accustomed to is the spotlight of a spotless reputation. Now, with all kinds of spots starting to show, they are forced to emerge from denial. I for one would be very eager to read Palak and Ansh's reports at the end of the week.
3. Sublime irony # 3 or (alternate subtitle) From Umpire to Vampire: In a wonderful twist, we find Gayatri, the most partial and unstable character where affections are concerned, playing the role of umpire. As seen from the precap, to switch from umpire to vampire does not take very long, either in reel life, or in terms of spelling.
4. Symbolism # 1: Cricket is a slow game, where the process is nearly as important as the outcome. Likewise, the family dynamics also are played out over the long term. The boundaries are that of customs and culture --they are in place, yet permeable. The turf over which the game is played is that of trust, seasoned by experience. Each player wears defensive gear, with the point of the family-life-game being to ideally play one's role without hurting others or getting hurt in the process.
5. Observation # 1: We can use the term "frenemy" to describe the relationship between Akash and Ishita. As long as their goals are outside of themselves, they get along well. They are bonded together by (a) mutual selfishness, and (b) mutual hatred of another, be it Arya or SP.
6. Observation # 2: Both Gayatri and Ishita are deploying the defense mechanism of displacement. Ishita has displaced her anger over her circumstances on to Yash. Gayatri targeted Ansh yesterday, and will target Radha tomorrow. Both G3 and Ishy do not understand that displacement of anger and pain will not make it go away. It will, on the contrary, increase it as in the process of trying to resolve it, they alienate the people they care about.
7. Symbolism # 2: Ishy's bleeding wrist simultaneously symbolises both self-loath, where the life-essence of her already low self-esteem was draining away with her runaway emotions, and also the recurrent theme of one's khoon (blood) which is very much in discussion in PV. Recall that Akash had a leg injury at the ankle caused by Yash throwing a bottle at him during the chase. This injury left a trail of blood from the living room to the entry way, which Akash surreptitiously wiped off. Interestingly, Ishy's injury is caused by Akash's manhandling of her, and therefore also symbolises his anger over his past and his deprivation of the rightful upbringing, to which he feels entitled to by blood.
