Other than they women can continue to wear jeans, churidars, etc, but in no case skirts. Yes sari is the worst dress, an unsewn one, and in Islam it is strictly forbidden to wear unsewn garment, except at Hajj.

i know this is the comment from a newbie, but nowhere is it said that skirts are not allowed. in fact, full skirts are being used as modest clothing for muslim ladies of many countries.

about the original topic :
I have a very liberal dress sense, but i will explain the traditionalist view of why jeans are considered non-modest..( because some of the NRIs are honestly confused by this.. )

jeans and any fitted trousers expose the shape of your lower half. almost everywhere in india, across all religions, this is considered immodest. if you look at ladies (and gents) clothing in india over the ages, we can see that they wear loose pants or dhotis, or skirts or saris or shalwars. if at all the pants are tight, they wear long tops.

someone in a waist-length top (with jeans) is definitely considered immodest.. not only by the traditional old granpa types, but also by the "modern" young ones.. both girls and boys. there is only a very thin layer of society at the top of the ladder who does not care about such "indian traditional" sensibilities.. i have to say, waist length top and a full skirt is considered okay.

normal girls in big cities (those who travel in trains, buses, etc.. those who interact with the general public ) will take care to dress appropriately to avoid unwanted attention.. that is a simple fact of life in india. this is one of the reasons why female field reporters in india are almost always clad in a kurta-jeans combo.

i do not want to raise up the issue of whether a girl in a tight salwar suit is more appropriately dressed than a girl in a loose top and jeans( like zoya).. i was just explaining why jeans are considered immodest.

sorry!! alina, i don't watch that show, but i totally agree with.

so much restrictions on clothes, said true when girls turn 12 they are not allowed to wear jeans even if they cover themselves full and also with stole, restrictions is in each country.

i am also a Muslim and wear jeans, but still to wear it when some relative comes to home.

why all restrictions on girls only?

wearing jeans is not the problem.wearing jeans for a religious function is in my opinion avoidable.its not just in muslims.iam a hindu but i would also not wear jeans for a puja.there is a time and place for all kinds of dressing, you would go to a disc wearing a saree,?and zoya does wear a salwar kameez at night.then how much trouble would it have taken her to be appropriately dressed?regarding wearing a saree it depends on how you drape it.it can either be the sexiest garment or the most covering-up one.nri people (not all) want to everything to be the way it is back home.then why come to india, for a different cultural experience, isnt it?then why not embrace it wholeheartedly.and a religious function is hardly the place to assert your individuality.did not want to create a fight but just wanted to give you a different perspective.😊

Sorry but I don't agree with you u see this is our problem we always interpret things the way we want to.Allah said women should cover their selves in a way that none of their body part is visible xcept for their eyes hands n feet n about covering UR face it is said that it's best to cover UR face but it's not compulsory n in jeans n top every part of women body is visible. It is covered but it is visible so don't interpret things wrongly n don't relate any drama weather it's Pakistani aur Indian to religion becoz although they guide u about things in Muslim society but they are not even 1% close to religion n I hope u understand y I m saying this

I totally agree with u
Islam say us to cover our body. what ever we wear should cover our full body
And I think wearing jeans or western dresses is not wrong if our body expose then that will b wrong other wise its fine
