But they opened the door themselves!

Oh yes, the PH did promise that and so the complaints are justified.
These days most of the shows make tall claims about being different or that they would deal with such and such social issue, etc... and I have learnt it the hard way that these claims are made to just draw in audiences. In reality, the show would be just like every other shows and wouldn't be dealing with any issue seriously.

I was expecting the religion to play at the forefront as the emphasis from Gul's side was on the religion mostly when the show was announced and even if it isn't and the focal point is family or love, some consideration atleast given to certain practices, holy night's.fesitvals ,the attire whilst praying etc,etc will be nice to see and would mean alot to all Muslim's watching the show.Right now the igorance being displayed is quite demeaning and offensive to some people...how hard is it to do some thorough research on the religion? It's not exactly rocket science!😡I dnt see any different on this show...the Muslim steretype and clicehes are all very much there!

As far as Islamic religious practices go, even in Pakistani serials (which are all mostly Muslims and created by Muslims), we don't see people offering their prayers daily or even reciting the Quran daily. Granted those shows come on once a week, I still haven't seen anyone going for Juma (Friday) Prayers or offering their prayers in congregation. If Pakistan being a country with an extremely large Muslim population isn't showing such things, then why is such a big deal being made about QH?

It would be nice if they showed people reciting the Quran or going to Mosque's for prayers, especially Friday prayers but if they're not showing it, then it doesn't need to be too big an issue. As long as they're not showing things completely against Islam or things that aren't allowed in Islam, I think it's fine.

I totally agree..
I mean in IPKKND or Geet there was all the time a pooja oder function..
But just like pakistani dramas this drama is also revolving more about family relationships

I believe you have to say you're divorcing your wife 3 times but on 3 different occasions. If in the heat of the moment you say it thrice, it doesn't count.

btw, i don't think they're divorced, they're just seperated.

nobody divorces his wife happily.. its always or most of the time in the heat of the moment.. remember the movie Nikaah, how Deepak prashar divorces Salma Agha.. 3 Talaaq in one go..

well, mitwakaiahq said on page 2.. Dilshad is Rashid ex wife..

Couldn't agree more! I was cynical about it from day one.

What I cannot understand is why a show can't be progressive, intelligent and entertaining at the same time? I mean, why does one need a lobotomy to watch these shows???

I have always felt that TV shows is the last place one should turn to in order to know about any culture or religion. Even the shows based on Hindu families do not depict everything how Hindus actually practice their religion. I have heard many Hindus complain how they are not as superstitious or do not indulge in overt religious practices as people on the shows. Ultimately, I think the story is intended to be about two families who happen to be Muslims and not a show about Islam.

I agree with you on bold parts. I also think that they should add one more point to the disclaimer they show at the beginning, that the culture, practices etc etc are not close to the reality.

Coz we know as we know the trend of hindi daily soaps. But for someone new to the culture or hindi soaps, it could be misleading. I mean people recommend to watch "The Simpsons" and "Family guy" to know about American culture.

I also agree that production house invited this scrutiny themselves. Coz during promotions, after KSG, their main USP was Muslim family, muslim characters.,, how characters are learning Urdu for the role etc etc.

I've spoken to my mother at length over the religious practices shown in this show & she explained them to me. The mazaar - visiting it isn't shirk & neither is praying there (as in dua), depending on who you are praying to and what you are praying for. Also, as many have mentioned, the drama just happens to be based on a Muslim family - this doesn't mean Islam must be at the forefront of every event that goes on. If they were a completely religious Muslim family, there would be nothing to show the drama on as none of the crimes of the past would have happened. The makers would never intentionally offend audiences in such a big way, and if something upsets you about the Islamic portrayal I would take it with a pinch of salt. Also, at the end of the day it is fiction. As many have said, Islam is perfect but Muslims are not; only Allah can judge whether our actions are right or wrong.

I hope no one takes offence at my words as I don't wish to offend anyone! I am a Muslim myself therefore would never say anything against the religion.

Edit: I hadn't read the other pages of this discussion. I think I'll back out now because I'm not well enough & in all honesty I do not have enough knowledge about Islamic teachings (something I hope to soon rectify) to make valid contributions to this discussion.

good discussion
but ab yahan ek alag hi discussion start hojay gi
1. rashor-dilshad ka divorce hogia hai yah ab tak confirm nahi hai, so no need to discus

2. wali hona chayay tha, woh zarori hota hai lakin aysa bhi nahi hai k us k bina shadi nahi ho sakti

3. sitting posture: tu my dear dear friends pouray islam ko phar lo, Qur'an yah sihah sitta ( 6 hadees books) kahin bhi namaz yah tilawat k laya koi bhi sitting pattern yah male/female k liaya alag alag sitting posture nahi hai, hadees yah hai k wasay namaz pharo jaysa Allah k rasool (Salallah hoo Alaihay Waalaihy Wasalam) ko namaz pharta howa dakho (male/female k liay alag alag nahi hai- agar kisi ko explanation chaya ho tu main ref k saat bata sakti hoon)
and more important
4. marriage
may be kisi ko pata hoo, but majority ko nahi pata hoga k
sirf 2 logon k sannay 3 bar "Qubool hai" (i do)kahnay say shadi hojati hai, baqi jo nikah ki rasam(khutba n all) woh sunat hai ager woh nahi bhi ho tab bhi nikah hojata hai, exactly like talaq (sirf bolnay say hojati hai papper work ek formality hai) aur ager kisi dosray say shadi karna ho tu proper talaq layna parta hai es liay yah fake marriage yh kaysay dihain gay???

note: yah point kisi bhi mufti(scholar) say confirm karlo bulkul sahi hai and point #3 yah prob humari family main bhi howa tha (namaz k hawalay say) tu hum nay es bary main muft hazrat say bhi poucha hai, male/female ki namaz alag alag nahi hoti, jab namaz hi alag nahi hai tu tilawat may sitting posture kahan say agia?
