Amazing update. Loved every bit of the last two chapters. Loved the cute ariya moments. Attack on riya and anu's house was very nicely portrayed. Sameer's reaction was soo good. Part 27...

The commissioner was informed of the situation and all the required procedures were taken care of. A security guard was placed at Riya and Anu's place, who would stay there twenty-four-seven. The ETF worked on the case relentlessly but seemed to get nowhere.

"Itna bada network? I mean..." Rathore hesitated before continuing, "...Arjun, I can think of only one person who is capable of such a thing"

Though Arjun looked at Rathore as he spoke, his thoughts were elsewhere. Riya, Shree and Chotu waited for one of them to reveal who they were talking about. When they didn't say anything finally Chotu asked them,

"Who are you talking about sir??"

Rathore glanced at Arjun hesitantly before replying to Chotu,

"Sikander"

Everyone's gaze turned to Arjun. An uneasy feeling welled up in Riya,

"But...but it can't be him. He's in jail for god's sake! It can't be him!!" Riya said.

Arjun looked up at her. It sounded more like she was assuring herself than trying to reason with her team mates.

After few seconds of silence Rathore spoke again,

"His trial is coming up..." He looked into his phone getting his calendar out to see when it was but Arjun answered him,

"It's day after tomorrow!" Arjun finally spoke through clenched teeth.

"We need to be careful!" Shree said.

"Shree ek kaam karo, check the records and find out about all the prisoners who were in the same jail as...him. Find out how many of them were released in the last three months!" Arjun ordered to Shree.

"Chotu, apne saare informers ko high alert pe rakho! Choti si choti baat inform karne ko kaho unse. Kuch na kuch toh ho raha hain...patha lagana padega!" Rathore ordered to Chotu.

"Yes, sir" both said and got to work immediately.

Riya glanced at Arjun a couple of times and fidgeted with her fingers. Arjun noticed her uneasiness but did not say anything about it.

"Jao Riya, jaake Shree ko help karo" he told her and nodded reassuringly. Riya followed his orders.

Next day...

Everyone gathered in the conference room first thing in the morning. Shree set up his laptop and projected the prisoner's photos and their information he and Riya gathered since yesterday.

"Sir, in the last three months three people were released. Rajjan and Chander finished their complete term and Ghani was released a little early due to his good conduct...We gathered every bit of information we could about all of them sir"

"Good, we need to contact all three as soon as possible" Rathore said.

"But, what if all this is not Sikander's doing? What if someone else is..." Riya said.

"We can't be sure of that...we can't be sure of anything right now" Arjun said frustration boiling inside him. He closed his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose continuing,

"Chotu, Shree...Riya, jaake Ghani ko milo...mein aur Sameer, Rajjan and Chander ko milte hain..."

"Yeh Rajjan naam kahi suna hain..." Rathore said suddenly, making everyone look up at him.

"Rajjan...Rajjan...haan yeh naam..." Arjun said thinking out loud.

Meanwhile Shree took out the information he gathered.

"His full name is Rajjan Bishwa, he was jailed for..." But before he could continue, both Arjun and Rathore stood up hearing the full name.

"Bishwa? Govind Bishwa ka beta??" Rathore looked furious.

"Govind?..." Shree said lost and went through his notes again.

"Jaldi karo Shree!!" Arjun was getting impatient; he was now certain that this was all done by Rajjan, but he wanted that last conformation from Shree.

"Yes sir, Govind ka beta hain Rajjan..."

Arjun and Rathore glanced at each other before quickly starting to pack their gear, ordering the rest of their team to do the same.

"Arjun, hai kaun yeh Rajjan aur Govind??" Riya asked as they briskly walked to their cars.

"Govind was Sikander's right hand man. He was killed in encounter when we were after Sikander. Rajjan, jo uska beta hain...woh...he was arrested and jailed a long time ago...I think it was for an attempted murder"

For the rest of the day ETF searched for Rajjan, from the small and narrow lanes of Mumbai to high class hotels, they looked everywhere only to be faced with disappointment at every corner.

Fed up, tired, frustrated and even surprised that they didn't find him anywhere, the team returned to their office at around nine thirty at night.

"DAMMIT!!" Arjun yelled as his hand swept across the table, making all the files and glasses on it fall to the ground with an ear splitting sound.

Everyone watched stunned as Arjun's frustration got the better of him. Riya was the first one to react; she slowly made her way to the table and started picking up the broken pieces of coffee mugs off the ground.

She immediately got two more pairs of helping hands from Shree and Chotu.

"Get a grip on yourself Arjun!!" Rathore said sternly as he too started picking up files and the rest from the ground.

Arjun looked at them with a deep frown but felt guilty for reacting the way he did.

"Sorry..." He muttered and started to clean up the mess he created.

After a few minutes when everything was cleaned and sorted, Rathore dismissed his team with an order to be back at office by seven in the morning to continue their investigation.

Riya who was staying at Rathore's walked to his car and waited for him. Arjun came out with her but they did not say a word to each other.

"Are you coming?" Riya finally asked.

"Nahi Riya, I need sometime alone...to think all this through"

Arjun kept a tight rein on his anger and rage that was boiling inside, since Rathore mentioned Sikander that morning and Riya could see that. She just nodded in response. She understood or at least tried to understand what he was going through. The happiness he'd shunned away long back started making its place in his life again. And when he started thinking everything was alright and his life was back on track, his past is coming back knocking on the door.

Ek baar meri zindagi mujhse cheen gayi thi...iss baar nahi!

Riya remembered the pain in his voice; she closed her eyes as they stung like she might cry. She gulped down the ache and the tears she felt at her heart and opened her eyes. When she did, her eyes reflected the strength of her mind and determination. If his past has come back into their life, then they'll fight it – together.
