Emraan Hashmi refuses to play gay character

Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham have played gay characters. In fact, even Rishi Kapoor played a homosexual dean in Karan Johar's 'Student of the Year'. However, Emraan Hashmi has refused to take a page out of his contemporaries books and said no to playing a gay character.

Recently, the actor was offered a script of a thriller film where Hashmi's role was that of a serial killer who's a homosexual.Despite loving the dark edgy story, he wasn't sure if he would be able to pull off playing a gay role. He even discussed this with his mentor Mahesh Bhatt who actually asked him to push the envelope and actually play the role.

But the actor wasn't convinced enough and felt that his hardcore fan base that comprised of young girls and housewives wouldn't like this change of image. A source reveals, "Even though he wants to try different roles and be challenged, Emraan felt that this would be too much of a drastic change for his fans."

Ohh noo...I am disappointed.

He should have given it a chance if the script was good...it's high time bollywood brings some homosexual characters without all that OTT comedy element (Dostana type)

IMO he should have agreed. He is a fine actor and I would have loved to see him adding another feather to his cap of versatility.

He should have done it...It would have brought him more credibility as an actor..and also in his choice of scripts!!!

I know it would have been a first for bollywood to have a serious homosexual character rather than the stereotypical girly types

As not all homosexuals are like that

I think Emraan would have done a good job. But if he is not prepared to do that role, he shouldn't do it.

Ahh I'm one of those who wish he'd have done it. I agree with Abby, it's high time Bollywood flicks ditched lame comedy on homosexuality and approach with positive attitude like the west does

There is nothing wrong with that he's an amazing actor he should have taken it up if the scrip is good.

so he still hasn't romanced everything..daayan done..a guy should be next..
