Saif Ali Khan is happy but he is not yet ready to paint the town red. He is 'quietly having a sip of champagne with his producers' (in his own words) but isn't 'partying hard' for now. Despite the fact that
Race 2 has taken an opening of over 50 crores at the box office and is sustaining reasonably well on the weekdays as well, Saif is maintaining a wait and watch approach.
51 crores in 3 days for Race 2 - That's far beyond Cocktail that had earned 36 crores in its opening weekend. A huge progress, isn't it?
I think a nice opening number was hoped for because of the holidays. Still, I would say that we have got just about what we had expected and by the way, our expectations were reasonable. I guess the kind of numbers that have come in are a positive sign indeed.
Not many were thrilled by the film's script though, especially in its second half which could have been much more tout.
See, powers to be had decided to make the film as a financial thriller. An element of heist was thrown in. In fact if you look at it, on paper it is actually quite difficult to carry a script when we are talking about millions and trillions. Still, we managed to pull it off. I think it is not in my destiny at the least to make everything perfect. So even if there is something which is 80% satisfying, I should be happy (smiles).
It isn't bad after all; the returns have been good indeed.
Exactly. Otherwise there are some lovely films out there which get made but then they don't seem to make money. And then the vice versa is true too. Of course as an actor you want to find that magic film which has everything for everybody. As actors, we do our best. However I do agree with you to a good extent around your point on the script. I am not saying that Race 2 is the deepest and the most meaningful film of them all. It wasn't meant to be either.
Quite a few share this sentiment that it was a little far fetched.
My daughter said the same (smiles). However she followed it up by saying that Bollywood inherently is far fetched. She found it to be some cool fun though. Of course if and when we go ahead with Race 3, we would be concentrating more on the script as well.
Yeah, that sequence with a car flying off an airplane courtesy four huge parachutes is yet to be digested.
(Laughs) Well, it is not as bad as I thought it would be. In fact, to begin with I wanted that the sequence to go to Los Angeles for the VFX. Though that didn't quite happen, I am sure in future we would do better. Even in the current state it was a brave attempt by us. Imagine the sequence coming out four years ago; it would have been ridiculous. At least we could show it with some conviction.
So how convinced is Kareena with the film?
I am sure she likes me and also thought that the movie was fun. She has encouraged and supported me about the success of the film. As for the depth of the film, I am sure she has her opinion. May be she is sensitively keeping it to herself for now (smiles).
