Islamabad: Pakistan has termed as "interference in internal affairs" India's remarks that the internal situation in its western neighbour has deteriorated threatening regional peace and said such "aggressive" statements could have an impact on the dialogue process.

Pakistan's Information Minister Muhammad Ali Durrani said "the remarks by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee on internal situation of Pakistan tantamount to interference in the internal affairs".

Singh, who along with Mukherjee had addressed the commanders' conference here on Wednesday, had said New Delhi had put Islamabad "on notice" that any democratic Government In India would find it difficult to continue on its present path of addressing all outstanding issues unless Pakistan clearly deals with the issue of terrorism. Mukherjee had referred to deteriorating internal situation in Pakistan.

"Such an attitude is a violation of diplomatic norms and principles of inter-state relations," state-run APP news agency quoted Durrani as telling the media at a function here last night.

On Mukherjee's remarks, Durrani said "India should first keep its own house in order. Instead of pointing an accusing finger at Pakistan, it should evaluate the situation in Kashmir where it has set records of state terror for almost two decades".

He said "Pakistan has sincerely and seriously been pursuing a composite dialogue with India for settlement of the Kashmir issue and all other key issues", he said, maintaining such "aggressive statements could have negative impact and could even jeopardize the ongoing dialogue process between the two countries
