AnSh FF: Makar Sankranti

Note: Based on the assumption that Shiv and Anandi celebrate Makar Sankranti in Udaipur.

Anandi's kite has been cut down again. 'The skies of Udaipur are ruthless!', thinks the new bride. 'Shiv must think I am an idiot!'. On the contrary, Shiv is enjoying himself and thinks that Anandi is making good progress for an amateur.

Shiv sighs in exasperation and smiles at Anandi.

Anandi blushes and bows her head. She's nodding but doesn't seem too convinced.

And thus begins the ultimate nanad-bhabhi showdown. Anandi is not without talent. Paying close attention to Shiv's instructions, she begins to feel quite confident. Sanchi, on the other hand, is flustered to be against her talented brother's protege. After a lot of dramatics, Sanchi's kite falls to the ground, cut down by her triumphant bhabhi!

Anandi is overjoyed to have finally mastered kite-flying. In her excitement, she forgets to be shy, forgets to be sad that Sanchi lost, neither notices Sanchi leaving in offence nor Mahi following her to calm her down. She had forgotten that she and Shiv were not really alone on some mountaintop, like it had felt when she was flying the kite.

Anandi grabs his hands and begins to narrate how she felt when she was flying a kite for the first time and the rush she felt when she actually cut another kite! Sanchi's kite.. Oops! Sanchi's kite! Anandi suddenly realizes that Shiv and she are alone, Sanchi has left! Her feelings must be hurt! Shiv sees the change in her face and understands what she's thinking. He holds her hands properly in his and strokes them.

Anandi smiles weakly and leaves Shiv's hand. He is sad to see that her excitement is lost. As she is going downstairs to make amends to her sister-in-law...

Anandi is thinking about Sanchi. How could she be so insensitive? But what should she do now? How can she apologize for winning a game! Even she does, Sanchi will think she's being fake. What to do... Idea! She runs to her room and comes back with a box and knocks at Sanchi's door.

Opens the box and shakes out its contents-

Anandi is holding out the top and jeans that Sanchi had gifted her on her muh-dikhai. Sanchi's eyes widen at this.

Before the confused girl can say anything else, Anandi goes into the bathroom, changes quickly and tries to forget her inhibitions, since confidence was imperative to her plan. She comes out clad in western wear, her long hair tied back in a ponytail, wearing only sindoor to remind of her previous attire. Sanchi is suprised to see Anandi looking so pretty!

Sanchi bites her tongue. Her real intention in giving Anandi the gifts is now out. Anandi too had guessed as much. She smiles.

Sanchi doesn't answer but goes to sit on her bed. Anandi follows.

Aah, so this is what bothers Sanchi. She doesn't like Anandi because, all her life, she had been the most important girl in Shiv's life. She had never thought that he would ever fall in love, so deeply, that she would have to compete for his favour. Anandi puts her hand on Sanchi's shoulder and Sanchi begins to tearfully narrate her feelings. Anandi consoles her.

Anandi wipes away Sanchi's tears, who is looking at her in a new light, without jealousy and bias.

Anandi is staunch in her belief that Shiv won't touch her. He obviously wants to spend time with her. The idea of a getaway with him sounds appealing to her too.

Just then, Shiv bursts in!

He is shocked to see Sanchi hugging Anandi and even more shocked to see Anandi in jeans! He's lost his tongue! Anandi and Sanchi begin to laugh looking at him.

He almost runs out but stops at the last step.

As he shuts the door on his blushing wife and giggling sister, Shiv thinks-

All the Shekhars are gathered around the dining table and surprised to see Anandi and Sanchi walk in together, smiling! Nobody wants to jinx it, so no one talks about it.

The table is an array of delicious treats; surprisingly, all of Anandi's favourites.

Anandi is overcome with emotion looking at the amount of love showered on her by her family. Her family. How true the words feel! As much as they love her, it is only when she opens her heart that she can feel like one of them! And so she sits down, taking in their love, enjoying their chatter and genuinely savouring the food! The men were really good cooks and she complimented them wholeheartedly. After dinner, everyone watches a movie and are pleasantly surprised to see Anandi and Sanchi bond over it. Later that night, in their bedroom. Shiv and Anandi are relaxing and soaking in the happiness of the wonderful day celebrated with their family.

She just wanted to see his expression when she would say something so unlike her. And boy, was he shocked! She laughed and told him how Sanchi had told her by mistake.

And thus ends the first of many such joyful festivals to come!
