The moment that you have been waiting for is finally here. The verdict of the Bollywood Hungama Surfers Choice Music Awards 2012 is finally out. While we know that you are super eager to find out if your favourite nominee made to the final cut, let us once again inform you that the results are purely based on your votes with no judges or jury calling the shots. Besides in order to ensure zero spamming and nullify multiple votes, we made the voting system go through a fool-proof 3-step process of Email Validation, Cookie Check and IP check. So fasten your seat-belts as we announce the winners of Bollywood Hungama Surfers Choice Music Awards 2012.

Best Soundtrack

The winner of the Best Soundtrack of 2012 is Jab Tak Hai Jaan, an album which picked up slowly but was loved by one and all, especially fans of the music maestro A.R.Rahman. The trio of Rahman, late Yash Chopra and Gulzar coming together was a winning combination and the music did play a role in enhancing the impact of the film. The album got a whopping 23% of total votes. Interestingly last year too it was A.R.Rahman's Rockstar that bagged the Best Soundtrack award at the Bollywood Hungama Surfer's Choice Music Awards 2011.

We got in touch with the man himself- A.R.Rahman- who was thrilled on receiving this honour. Rahman said, "I want to thank late Yash Chopraji, Aditya Chopra, Gulzarji and all the people involved in the music of Jab Tak Hai Jaan. I also want to thank the voters of Bollywood Hungama and want to let them know that this is so timely and gratifying. Lots of love to all of you. Ella Pugazum Iraivanukke (All Glory Goes To God)! "

Following Jab Tak Hai Jaan was the soundtrack of Cocktail which got 18% of the votes. The album composed by Pritam had some chartbusters like 'Tumhi Ho Bandhu' and 'Daaru Desi'.

Best Male Playback Singer

The year 2012 saw many new talented singers battling it out with some veterans to bag the coveted title of Best Male Playback Singer but in the end it was the one and only Sonu Niigaam who got a maximum of 21% votes for his melodious and soulful rendition of the song 'Abhi Mujh Mein Kahin' from Agneepath thereby becoming the Best Male Playback Singer at the 'Bollywood Hungama Surfers Choice Music Awards 2012'.

Sonu, who has been going through a rather tough time recently owing to his mother's ill-health, got a tad emotional when we told him about the result. The singer par excellence said, "It's very re-assuring to know that this song has been loved so much. The last few weeks have been very tough for my family owing to my mother's ill-health but such love, appreciation and accolades does encourage you to keep doing good work. I've already won 3 awards for this song and now this is the 4th award I am getting. I am so happy that the song has got its due. These days very few people are interested in making good, melodious songs. I love songs like 'Halkat Jawani' and 'Chikni Chameli' as well which make for good ringtones but for every such number, there should be a good, melodious song like 'Abhi Mujh Mein Kahin' as well. Full marks to composers Ajay-Atul for coming up with this gem of a song. Also I remember Ajay-Atul giving director Karan Malhotra two songs as options for a situation- one my song 'Abhi Mujh Mein Kahin' and the other one was 'O Saiyyan' sung by Roop Kumar Rathod. When Karan heard both the songs, he said, 'I want to keep both of them and will create situations accordingly.' I am so glad that he did that as I love Roop Kumar's song equally. It also shows that Karan Malhotra too has a good ear for music"

The runner-up in this category was debutant Ayushmann Khurrana who not only made a splendid acting debut with Vicky Donor but also sang and composed the lilting melody 'Pani Da Rang' which became the love ballad of the year.

Best Female Playback Singer

Last year it was Shreya Ghoshal who bagged the Best Female Playback Singer at the Bollywood Hungama Surfer's Choice Music Awards for her song 'Teri Meri' from Bodyguard. This year however we have a new winner in Sufi singer Kavita Seth whose melodious voice added zing to the friendship anthem of the year- 'Tumhi Ho Bandhu' from Cocktail and made her come on top of this list with 18% of total votes.

When we contacted Kavita Seth to convey this good news, she was over the moon and said, "Oh wow, that's amazing news. It's great to know that audience has voted for my song and has liked it so much. It's all God's grace and audience's love. I don't have words to express my happiness. Hope I can continue entertaining my fans with more such songs in 2013 as well."

Kavita had very close competition from newcomer Shalmali Kholgade who sang 'Main Pareshaan' rather brilliantly in YRF's Ishaqzaade.

Best Lyricist

They say words make a song and if that's true then the Best Lyricist category surely is an important one. This year the winner of Best Lyricist is Amitabh Bhattacharya who wrote those beautiful lines in the highly emotional 'Abhi Mujh Mein Kahin' from Agneepath. Amitabh bagged 24% of the votes to emerge on top of the list and is fast turning out to be one of the most sought-after lyricists in Bollywood.

The runner-up in this category was yet again Ayushmann Khurrana along with his college buddy Rochak Kohli who co-wrote and co-composed the beautiful love song 'Pani Da Rang' from Vicky Donor. Despite having Punjabi lyrics, the song found pan-India acceptance.

Best Song

Last year saw a lot of chartbusters right from party songs to soulful and melodious numbers but in the end it was the very romantic number 'Pani Da Rang' from Vicky Donor which got voted as the Best Song with 14% of the total votes. The song has been sung by Ayushmann Khurrana who has even composed and written the lyrics for the song with his college buddy Rochak Kohli.

When we contacted Ayushmann and asked him what he felt about this honour, he said, "To be frank when we composed this song in college we were not thinking of cutting an album or using it in the industry, we made it just for fun. But you know it always happens that most of the good stuff comes out of the fun stuff. It's usually when you're having fun in life without any pressure of performing or making it big, that life gives you surprises and gives you a benchmark number like 'Pani Da Rang'. But on the whole I think it's very overwhelming and 2012 has been the year of debutants in Indian Cinema with almost every kind of film and every song being appreciated. It certainly means a lot to me and Rochak Kohli that 'Pani Da Rang' has been appreciated so much, as this song is really special to us."

The runner-up in this category was the foot-tapping number 'Tumhi Ho Bandhu' from Cocktail.

Best Music Video

A good music video often serves as a catalyst for audiences to flock to the theatres. This year too there were many such videos which vied for top honour in this category but in the end it was 'Mashallah Mashallah' fromEk Tha Tiger that was voted the Best Music Video beating other competition by a big margin. The song featured during the end credits of the film and had Salman and Katrina dancing in a Moroccan setting. The song was beautifully choreographed by ace choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant.

Speaking about this honour, Vaibhavi said, "Firstly I want to just say thank you, because I may have a very disappointing reaction from people from my own fraternity, but one thing is that your audience will never fail you or let you down. In fact I think that is the whole reason we do films, mainly to entertain them and if they are happy with our work and appreciate it with such a response, it speaks a lot. I am really, really touched by the audience and my fans for voting. Actually it was very difficult to shoot 'Mashallah', as the song came in at the very last moment and we had to shoot it, so there was a lot of decision making that we went through, when we decided to rather shoot it in a controlled environment than any other location. So it was a big task to recreate Morocco in Film City Mumbai and shoot the song sequence. Here is where I think I should really thank our art directors for making Film City Mumbai look like Morocco."

The runner up in this category was 'Hookah Bar' from Khiladi 786 that is still a favourite among D.J.'s at all the parties and night-clubs.

Best Choreographed Song

We all love to see our favourite stars dancing like never before in our Bollywood songs and its here that good choreography comes to the rescue. This year the Best Choreographed Song was 'Fevicol Se' from Dabangg 2which featured Kareena Kapoor like never before. Farah Khan, who choreographed the song, gave Kareena some really tough dance moves but the actress delivered and how. A bonus was of course the presence of Salman Khan in the song.

When we Farah Khan giving her the good news, she said, "Your surfers have good taste…Please thank them from my side. I am very thrilled. In fact, I keep saying that I've retired from choreography yet no one believes me and every year I end up doing a couple of songs at least because it becomes very difficult to say No to dear friends and family. So whenever I do choreograph that one song, I give it my whole, as it has to be special and has to be in the running for all the top awards. Besides winning is always better than losing (laughs). So I would really like to once again thank the viewers of Bollywood Hungama for voting for me."

The runner up in this category was the massy number 'Chikni Chameli' from Agneepath featuring Katrina Kaif and choreographed by Ganesh Acharya.

JTHJ's album was hated when it came out but now that's what everybody is humming. It took time, but has made it's impact...at least on me.
