"Khushi, I have to tell you something," He told her but there an unfamiliar mysteriousness.

"I don't know what you would think of me. I don't know if you would even want to see me after knowing my motives. But I can't deceive you anymore. It's impossible to hide this bitter truth."

Khushi sat on the bed bewildered as her heart was beating vigorously. She knew that something worse was coming up but never in her dreams had she thought that it could be this worse.

She placed her hand on his shoulder.

"Khushi, I want to ruin your dad," An uneasy silence prevailed in the room for some time.

"My sole purpose in life has always been to witness the destruction of Gupta's," He spoke those words with a venomous rage that seem to supersede everything.

"From years, I only wanted one thing and that was to ruin his name to such an extent that every person would flinch at the mere mention of his name. Suraj Gupta., Yeah, I hate that man. There was a time when I wanted him dead but then I realized that death was a very small punishment as compared to his deeds."

He felt her hand griping his shoulder tightly for the needed support but he continued. He could feel her distress, her shock and her uneasiness.

"So I decided his punishment in my own court of law and that was to make his life miserable and he should not have a single penny on his name and he should not have a single person by his side that he would be able to claim as his own."

Her hand was still placed on his shoulder but the whirlpool of the emotion was ready to gulp her. This reality was tearing her apart. He felt his hand going cold.

Was it because of fear of future or the pain that I am causing her by my words or maybe it is because of my own rising temperature that I can feel her colder than ever?

He asked himself but he couldn't get the right answer for his question. But then her hand trembled in dread. He turned around and her eyes were blank.

Then his words that he had uttered in the past, echoed in her mind.

I am your enemy.

Because I am the danger you are supposed to stay away from. Because I am the most dangerous thing you should fear..!

I am the most treacherous creature that can hurt you irreversibly.

She recalled his words when he has told her so many times that he was her enemy and the relationship shared between them was of only enmity.

"Khushi," He gripped her shoulders and shook her.

"I know it is not easy to understand but please don't judge my love. Yes, I hate your father. Yes, it is true that I wanted revenge. But even then, I was unable to use you as weapon against him.

Yes, I wanted to give him pain but I failed to opt any way that would give you pain."

He waited for her response but she was too numb to react.

"Khushi, Alright, don't talk to me. Curse me or even leave me. But never misjudge my love as deceit."

He shook her and waited for her reply but her mind was frozen to process his words. She just sat there staring at him in disbelief while a single tear escaped from one of her eye.

"No Khushi, please no," He cried in pain

"I wanted to be the last person who could be the source of grief. But unfortunately, I am the very first person who is the reason of your sorrow right now. He paused.

"Just tell me once that you love me. He begged her. "Just tell me once and I am happy to endure any punishment given by you. I would do as you will say. But just tell me once you love me. He pleaded her and her eyes moved slightly from the oblivion towards his face.

She could only witness helplessness and pain on his face. But she didn't know what to say and how to react.

"You were my enemy," She murmured those words loud enough for him to hear them.

The door opened with bang and few men rushed inside the house. Instinctively, he got up from his place and took his gun out and then jerked her around to hide her behind him. He placed his hand on the trigger and was about to fire when he recognized the person in front of him.

It was Suraj Gupta followed by his men and right now they both were standing face to face. Arnav had already the gun on his head while his fingers were about to press the trigger

"Arnav!" Khushi gasped as she witnessed the most dreadful scene in front of her. The two men she loved most were standing face to face against each other.

"No!" She shrieked painfully and Arnav's finger loosened over the trigger.

"So Mr Arnav Singh Raizada," Suraj voice was grave and he examined Arnav from head to toe as he pronounced his name.

"You didn't take permission, before bringing her here. It was her engagement and you just took her from there and all I know is that you gave a call to the commissioner, informing him that she would be staying with you because her life is in danger. But before deciding, did you take my permission? Do you have a right to bring her here?

"I have every right over her, Mr Gupta," The authority in his voice made Suraj shudder slightly but he composed himself.

"And didn't I tell you that Arnav Singh Raizada never reports to anyone and I was given the task to save her and that is what I am doing,"Arnav didn't remove his gaze from Suraj Gupta as he spoke and that was enough to make Suraj realize that there was a lot more to those few words.

"But now I would like to relieve you from this task. She is getting married in two days and then it would be her husband's responsibility to take care of her."

"It is not up to you to decide." Arnav snapped back.

"If she wants she can go from here but if it's not her will then neither you nor your men can make her go from here. And it is not a threat Mr Gupta, Remember that."

"Khushi, let's go." Gupta called her and Arnav moved to give her some space to walk. She was still staring at the two men in shock.

"Let's go, Khushi," Suraj voice was commanding now but Khushi was too much shocked to react at that moment. Her mind was no longer able to comprehend her surroundings. Only one word echoed in her mind

You were my enemy..! You were my enemy..!

Suraj's words fell deaf on her ear. In frustration, Suraj grabbed her hand but Arnav gripped her other hand.

"It would be her decision only," Arnav warned and Khushi's eyes moved towards Arnav and their eyes got locked.

"Khushi!" Suraj roared but it had no effect on her. She kept gaping at Arnav with horrid expressions.

"Khushi," Arnav called her softly still looking deep into her eyes.

Oh God, for once let her change her decision. For once, just let this miracle happen. Make her stay here. I won't be able to let her go. Just one word from her mouth and no person in this world would be able to take her away from me; one word is all I need.

He was still hoping for some miracle when her barely audible words reached his ear. It was low enough that only he could make sense of those inaudible words.

"YOU WERE MY ENEMY"Her few words numbed his soul.

Her eyes were only reflecting pain and this decision to choose either her dad or Arnav was tearing her apart. He wanted her to stay with him more than ever but not at the cost of her strife.

He loosened his grip on her hand and he was left alone with those hurtful words.

She was still looking at him with tears rolling down her eyes when Suraj dragged her from there.

She felt his hand leaving him and someone dragging him but her vision was blurred with the tears. She saw his faint figure, diapering as she was dragged outside the room. Instinctively, she stretched her hands towards him, in a vain attempt to hold him. But she was entirely ignorant of the fact that the only thing that gave him the strength to let go off her, were not her words. The reason was far greater than that.

"You were my enemy," She uttered as she could feel an excruciating pain coursing through her veins.

Suraj shoved her in the car and sat beside her.

She was there but everything she had was resided with the man she left behind.

YOU WERE MY ENEMY BUT YET YOU WERE MY ONLY PROTECTOR. She murmured as she broke into sobs.
