11/12 Dragon Club: The Walls Have Ears

Actually, this is the first episode of PV in a long time that was and felt like a filler. Usually they are handled with a little more subtlety but here we had all the classic strategies, letters from the absent beloved [not in their voice], flashbacks to fill time and the scenes that were almost totally devoid of meaning with every cast member except the one on leave. I guess they didn't have much time to plan as rather than airing the banked scenes, they would rather stall those and not mar the continuity at that point. I will buy it because though it was undoubtedly a filler, I have definitely seen worse.

Some highlights of the episode:

• The question I asked yesterday about Paridhi comes into play again. It is true the Scindias have now accepted her and given her another chance, but at what cost? Paridhi is forced to give up her dreams and her identity because it seems her husband can't do much more than sit around, wait for his family to solve all his problems, and then celebrate with sweets. Where before Paridhi was Prateek's wife first and a Scindia bahu second, I have a feeling that equation has shifted. Ironically, the opposite of what is happening and what will probably happen to an even greater degree with Yash and Aarti after the divorce truth comes out.
  

• Aarti has finally started taking notice of herself, looking at her own face reflected in various places and feeling conscious of how she looks because she knows Yash is watching. This is all very sweet and teenage romance as long as the mirror reflects only her outer beauty but what about when it starts to reflect what is inside her heart, where she is hiding some huge, dark secrets from Yash? As long as the focus was on others, be it Paridhi and the Scindia honour on one side, and the Dubeys and Prashant's life on the other, Aarti could compartmentalise her own feelings, summoning and blocking them out as necessary. But when the spotlight is on her and her alone, that is when she has to face the fact that the same person who is blushing and waiting for Yash's return like a loving and dutiful wife, is also deceiving him on such a huge scale. The two sets of actions meet in Aarti's person, and the new focus on it makes it harder for her to employ her usual mechanisms of justification and defense.
  

• Aarti laughed when Yash asked in the letter how she gets her patience to handle every difficult situation. It is so clear she doesn't take herself remotely seriously. Her patience with people and situations is a survival thing, not a virtue in her books. It is all pretty significant symbolically, because Yash is trying to hold a mirror to her soul for her to see as well, but until she purges Prashant from her system, which she can only do when he is no longer a secret she has to keep inside her, she will not be able to fully appreciate the reflection Yash is showing her, because Prashant will always be there to cloud the image.
  

• Prashant is a man of convenient principles. He had no problem lecturing Nida about the meaning of marriage, but has no issues on the other hand, breaking up Aarti's as though it is nothing but a pair of shoes that she can return for a full refund. How easily he translates her forgiveness over a tiff between husband and wife to forgiveness for leaving her for five years, abandoning and disowning their only child and waiting until she was married, committed and in love with another man to ask her forgiveness. In short, he really just doesn't get it! Just because Aarti committed to him first, chronologically, does not mean the commitment to him precedes all others in priority. "I had her first," is not really a valid reason for expecting her to come back to you, Prashant. Cancer or not, what a tool!
