Chennai: He is just 19 years old, a high school drop-out, a sound engineer and a pianist – A R Rahman's nephew, G V Prakash Kumar, is all set to take the box office by storm with his music for the movie Veyil. So, how difficult has it been to step out from Rahman's shadow?
"In the beginning, as I'm related to Rahman, they'll say I'm like Rahman and doing stuff like him. But later when some more of my music comes out, they'll know the difference," Prakash said.
Kollywood has been a fertile ground for young talent, like Karthik, Yuvan Raja and Srikanth Deva, from families of composers. And GV Prakash is the latest entrant in the competition.
"When you do music, like when you study, you want to get the first rank. So, I'll obviously get the first rank in music. Definitely I want to compete with them," Prakash said.
After working with Anu Malik in Jaan-e-Mann and Rahman in Mangal Pandey and Rang de Basanti and many Tamil hits with Vidyasagar and Harris Jayaraj, Prakash has already joined the big league.
With such a fabulous record is it Kollywood or Bollywood in the future?
"I'm interested in making music for Hindi films also. I'm just being selective about the scripts. I'm also planning for albums later with good visuals and good stuff," Prakash explained.
