Part 5

Dev threw his whiskey glass against the wall, sending shards of glass in all directions. Some pieces hit his face, but he didn't care. Small cuts didn't affect him. He was angry...very angry. How could this have happened? How could his plan have failed? No, his plan didn't fail, it couldn't fail. Those men he had hired failed. They failed to capture Geet...so he could have come in as the hero and rescued her. She would have fallen in love with him, had he succeeded...

But where was she now? Did she die?

Damn, Dev thought. They would have to start all over again and find another Geet to marry and exploit. All that work for nothing.

Meanwhile, the driver had gained consciousness and freed Rano and Tayji. They were very worried about Geet. They had seen her run into the field and saw the men go after her. They prayed to Babaji to keep their girl safe. Luckily Rano had her mobile, and she was able to ring Brij. Within the hour Brij and his friends had come with their jeeps to take Rano and Tayji home and to look for Geet.

"If those men have touched Geet, I hope she kills herself rather than bring her ruined self home" muttered Brij to his friends. "I knew this girl will bring shame on the family. We sent her off the Delhi to study, thinking she will become responsible and a good catch for suitable families. I knew it was a bad idea but I was over-ruled. I bet she has learnt to how to talk to men and attract them with all those mixed classes. She must have been looking at these men on the motorbikes in Amritsar and they just followed her here. Definitely this is Geet's fault. Wait till I get my hands on her. I will teach her and all the girls in the village a lesson. No one will dare go to Delhi again!!"

Brij and his friends spent the night looking for Geet or her body, but could find no evidence of where she disappeared to...they would continue searching until they found her...alive or dead.

Her family had agreed to keep things quiet and not tell Dev or Naintara about Geet's disappearance, until it was necessary. They didn't know that Dev already knew and that he too had his men searching for Geet all night long. She seemed to have vanished into thin air.

Brij had returned home exhausted at 6 am with no news on Geet's whereabouts. He washed and ate some breakfast and was on his way out, when he met Dev.

Dev had been restless all morning. He had lost sleep over this girl and despite his men being out all night, there had been no news of Geet. He visited the Handas to see whether Geet had come home. They were surprised to learn that Dev knew of the attempted kidnapping and disappearance of Geet. He lied to them, telling them that he had talk about it in the village. Daarji and Brij exchanged a look. Brij would need to find out, who dared gossip about Geet and the Handas. Whoever it was, would soon regret it.

Dev insisted on helping in the search for Geet. He could still salvage some of his hero image, if they happened to find Geet. As he was their son-in-law (nearly), the Handas could not refuse. Thus Brij, Dev and a few of Brij's close friends left Handa haveli, to continue the search in the surrounding areas to the field into which Geet ran...
