We all have been freshers... and nervous.. and lost.. and then RAGGING!!

Some people say (mostly seniors😉 who do it) it is merely fun(or they are letting their frustration out, since they were "Once upon a time" ragged too😆).

From a fresher's point of view, it is disgusting and at times it is "Tooooooo much" and unbearable. For example, having a water bag thrown at u, tyres gone flat, so many stupid questions, and many other MORE horrible things...etc etc etc.....

In your opinion, wht should freshers do? Any precautionary measure recommendation😉?

Wht is the limit of Ragging? How to deal with it? Many students can't overcome so they find hide-outs, is this the way of dealing with it?

Does it effect the confidence of a newcomer?

Should there be any kind of law or restriction which effectively controls ragging?

Any future "Freshers" here?? Are u scared???😳

Ur comments.😊

[PS. U can also share ur experiances....including those who were in college loooOOOooOOOoOOOoOoog ago😉)

my first day in college was such a damp squib.

i was dying to see what ragging was. i had seen them only in movies and heard about it from my cousins.

i was definitely expecting some kind of (friendly) ragging from my seniors. but we were welcomed with garlands, aarti and sweets. what a disappointment!!! 💔

then our seniors came to our class and had a lammmmmmmmmmba chat with us to find out who was good at what and helped us prepare for our fresher's party performances. they were really very friendly right from the first day..(we loved them so much that a lot of us cried during their farewell .... sob sob 😛 )

though there is ragging at our high school, i hav never been ragged upon (probably because i was friends with most of the seniors). If you've ever seen a military school, they take ragging seriously and it is a requirement for the "rats" to go through. It is kind of a right of passage, and i think that sometimes ragging is a good thing, because it helps establish the heirarchy without a lot of fuss. And plus the freshman get to do it their senor year.

I am a senior in high school and my freshman year...didn't experience a single bit of ragging! We were actually welcomed by a group of seniors who helped us get around and guided us through the school....well next semester, I'll be in college...let's hope for the best there😳

[quote=abhijit shukla]The mentality behind the phenomenon described in Statement A above is the same that is reflected in the motives of Statement B - let us have fun at others' expense without a trace of sensitivity toward our fellow human beings! It is just in reverse order! I hope that gives you some insight!

In your opinion, wht should freshers do? Any precautionary measure recommendation😉?

Seniors mostly take advantage of the fact that the freshers don't know each other and so are not united. The sooner you can make a group of friends the better for you. Seniors usually target people who seem to be soft, over smart or overly aggressive, so if you keep your attitude right, usually you won't have to face much. If the ragging is within limits, don't go complaining to the college authority, you'll only end up making enemies among seniors and even your classmates. Seniors usually do a lot of thing to scare you and want to see if you have the presence of mind and whether you dare or not. Once you show that you're not afraid of them and only think about them as your senior friend, they'll just let you be.

If nothing else works and the senior ends up breaking some of your bones or giving cigarette burns, report to the police (there are laws against ragging) and make sure that particular senior is not only rusticated but his/her career gets over and done with.😈

Wht is the limit of Ragging?

I'll say verbal and witty and which both parties involved can enjoy should be the limit, maybe even a li'l mental harassment is okay. No physical stuff please, afterall ragging is meant to be an ice breaking session and not a bone breaking one between the seniors and juniors.

How to deal with it? Many students can't overcome so they find hide-outs, is this the way of dealing with it?

Well whatever works for the student, s/he can adopt that method.

PS: Would like to know how MBN handled ragging.😛

😆 😆 😆 ... am so glad I don't go to a college in India; I would have died if tortured. I haven't seen 'raaging' here.... prob. cause I didn't socialize much, and the university is so damn big.... no real groups other than for frats, and stuff I guess and I choose not to join. 😃
