TOI: Horror shows irk TV viewers

Number of complaints against their gory content have increased drastically

Horror shows on television are the latest to attract the ire of a section of viewers and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. According to the Broadcasting Content Complaints Council (BCCC), there has been an increase in the number of complaints received against horror shows. The viewers' main grouse is that these shows are promoting superstition and the visuals are too gory for children.

Fear Files (Zee TV) tops the list when it comes to the number of complaints received. One of its episodes showed a woman being raped by 'a spirit'. A notice was issued to the channel, which was asked not to repeat the episode without suitable editing. The BCCC held that the channel was promoting superstition by claiming that some cases shown in the show were inspired by real life incidents. It was decided that the show could only air during the restricted hours and promos aired during the day should not have scary visuals.

Next in the line of fire is Haunted Nights (Sahara One). The ministry complained to the BCCC about an episode which showed a child playing the role of a ghost. It was held that the show was showing children in bad light.
There are even complaints about a new show, Anamika (Sony TV), which hasn't come on air yet. Viewers have written to the BCCC asking them to tell the channel to air the show after 11pm. However, a decision on the same will be taken in the next meeting of the BCCC on December 14.

n what about the intimate scenes, the EMA's, the shows showing open romance in scholl life etc dont they influence children? 😕

i wonder why these viewer cant complain about reality shows like big boss..😕

seriously we have reality shows putting undue pressure on kids, we have shows at prime time showing love making scenes, teenage pregnancies, conspiracies against family members - dont they influence in a much more negative way? at least super natural shows are known to be a work of imagination bearing little resemblance to reality, so what's the fuss? its like curbing creative freedom and forcing people not to watch what they like to watch and force them to watch what they dont like🤢

the funniest part is that even before seeing the show they are complaining about it!! they are ok with watchnig milla and boons tuype romantic comedy shows at 7 time- where leads get married hate each other passionate chemistry fall in love that is ok for kids??

as if other show are too good for children's.. at this rate.we should shut of number on shows..
