The reason I feel she can't do it because the same reason you mentioned. She does not want to look like a bad mother in front of RK. Any mother who would forgive a woman she perceives as threat to her son's life looks uncaring. She will never want to appear so in front of RK when he already thinks her as selfish and uncaring.

Instead if she appears in front of RK as a rightous mother who got betrayed by her daughter-in-law and just hurt as a mother, she gets to kill two birds in one stone. 1. RK realizes how much she loves him and what she is going through as a mom and 2. If the table looks about to turn in Madhu's favour, she can put all the blame on Deepali saying she poisoned her mind against Madhu.

That way, whether Madhu stays or goes, her position is intact.
