I agree that the practice as was done in many cases were often treating women as property. However, I was just saying that in of itself it's not really immoral or seen as wrong. Furthermore, I was replying to the comparison between what happened in PSH and what I'm assuming happened in Uttaran.

Its seems that Indian TV serials are trapped in a time warp.

They continue to depict traditions (a man marrying his brother's widow) that are still prevalent in small pockets across India but do not show the lifestyle lived by majority of the Indian population - like working for a living, divorce, showing moral and family values world over (eg. not marrying your mama's Fiancee).

it appears to happen a lot in India dramas and I think it rather gross to have sex with one brother and then the other one.

What about a man who has sex with one sister and then another one? I'm sure you would say you find that idea just as offputting. However, it's always the woman with brothers that's brought up first. As I said, the practice happens with widowers marrying their sister-in-laws as well. But still the first statement of revulsion is about the women who have sexual relations with brothers.

This issue of one girl marrying the other brother after the 1st brother has died is really off putting. I know it is the norm in these indian serials and movies for that to happen... but I think it is high time these makers change this way of thinking.. There is nothing wrong for a woman gaining her independance and taking care of herself. Why do they have to feed the myth that a woman needs a husband to survive...and if he is dead she has no choice but to marry one of his relatives???😒
It is hard for this girl who is looking at her brother in law as a brother, and he looking at her as a sister or mother figure, and then all of a sudden every one expects them to change the status quo to husband and wife?? Why is it required that he marry her to help take care of her, can he do that other wise?
It's the same issue why some of us had a problem with Amrita-Vickram idea of a relationship, because from the beginning she treated him as an uncle ...same thing from the beginning they treated each other as brother and sister and now because of family pressure, or social pressure they want them to get married?
Please people we live in 2012 not 1940's

What have the CVs done to this show? Beyond my understanding. I thought PSH would be different from kitchen politics wale serials but here the same thing is being churned out. Sugni has to face humiliation day in and day out but accepts it like a good, dutiful bahu. And the scenes between Adi-Sugni are far from cute or romantic. How they even got to this stage doesn't even add up (IMO)

I have always admired Varun Badola as an actor since I saw him in Koshish ek asha but I'm afraid his talent is being wasted here. I don't like the way his role has taken shape. Very unfortunate for an actor of his calibre.

@ Rafta, it is really sad what they have done to this show. Also I feel for the actors who have to do these roles. I am sure when they all signed up they too believed it was going to be a diffrent show, I mean both Varun and Nayani came out and said they were fed up with Saas-bahu serials.. What we are watching now is nothing but the classic Saas bahu drama with a terrible twist 😔

Sugni is suffering humiliation because she refuses to respect the wishes of others in the family. It may not be what she wants but if she does what they ask, she gives them time they may come around. But her approach of forcing herself on them will make them even more determined not to accept her. Her obsession with showing that she is a good/dutiful wife has made her lose perspective. If she wanted to pray she could have done it at home, she did not have to go the mendir.

As they move to new storylines hopefully TVS (Varun) will have a better role to play.
