but not everyone can manage.... i was shocked to know recently that my friends husband who is in Dubai was living in with a nurse working there and they even had a child... all this while this gentleman still made his once in 2 yrs visits home too! on the other hand my cousin and her hubby have been maintaining a 13yr marriage of which the last 8 yrs they have been apart... and every time they see each other they are like newlyweds.

that was what prompted me to start this topic.

Im sorry huni, I've had several friends tide over such a situation, some were smooth and others were not, a couple similar to the one you described, but they all made it. So Im optimistic.

I wonder why it is so hard for us to give a spouse the same level of commitment as we do to our parents and children. Why can one break away from this relationship, you cant divorce your parents or kids? So does marraige qualify as a lesser relationship?

wow! rindam that is so true. u r right. we never give up on our kids so why do we give up on our spouse with comparitive ease. i guess the problem is when one of the partners is less commited to the relationship than the other.

👏 perfecty said rindam...i just sent ur verbage to my husband..poor thing he is going to get some heavy dosage in early morning!! 😉

However, I think people do turn away from their childern and their parents all the time. Its not rare. Have you seen all the old age people nursing homes and Vrudhhashram, even in india? Even teenagers turn away from their parents. In india we have seen parents turn away from their kids if they get married to person of their disliking. Its always easy to turn away rather than stay together. Some commit to their parents most, some to their spouse most, some to their childern most, but majority of people commit to themselves most, kind of egocentric, and thats the issue. If one treat others like one's own self then there is no problem at all!

Thank you for liking that thought 😊 .

I really truly believe this should be instilled as a value. Just like we are fed with the though as to how important the parent-child relationship is, one must allow the same faith to a husband-wife (partner-partner) relationship.
To dilute this bond just because law allows it is so petty.

bgdesai,
Yes, some folks neglect every relationship. Maybe that works for them and if they are happy that way then well what can one say. Everyone is free to do as they please.

For me its sad to see really old people park their cars and do their shopping ever so slowly and carefully, counting their pennies, living on social security. But they dont see antyhing wrong with it, that is their culture.

People neglecting their folks in India is also common I guess, my take is-
If that is a sin and one commits it then pay for it they shall most definitely

So kind of you Soumya!!!!
You are really a perfect moderator.
Coming back to the topic:

I'm really happy seeing several posts which speak positively on the success rate of long distant relationships.
Yeah!!!I feel that success of these long distant relationships definitely depends on the those persons. If the relation is strong the distance does'nt matter. We need to be in touch extensively through mails, phones.
But if the person were near to us (distance wise) we can communicate more.Distance really plays a damn vital role!!!If the person we admire is in some far away continent we feel embarassing to post him/her every time for small things also. But if the person were near we can meet him/her and share our feelings personally.Whatever!!! Long distance should not matter.
But Aparna Di is my inspiration. All of you bless me and my Kiran.
Cheers,
Mythili

It really depends on the type of person you are and also how much do the 2 people love each other.
