Kill Time with Tea Time

This is when "how to kill time" meets "tea time". Just like a "typical" first week scenarios, our professor for today dismissed us early. The result? Almost 3 hours free time to chill out with my besties, Carol & Lisa! Isn't it weird how little things in life gives you great joy! This is EXACTLY what happened.

We should've chosen to watch a movie at but we were very bored to do that. So what we did instead was relax and spend some time at Starbucks! It's cheaper and better.

(P.S as you know I blew most of my allowance on shopping last week. Tsk tsk. ) I ordered Vanilla Milk tea. It's the only flavor I'm familiar with. Lisa and Carol ordered; caramel, banana, winter melon and tira misu.. Tried the winter melon and it was sooo damn good! Want to try it soon. Yummers!!

Lisa exchanged some juicy gossip about her ex dating someone new, feel bad for her though. At the same time I realized that I am damn lucky to have a guy like Sid in my life. Relationships are waaay complicated! Thank goodness my parents have already found the perfect match for me, couldn't have asked for anything better!

Anyway it's almost half past midnight. Time to call Sid; Nighty night J

A NEW BEGINNING ON A NEW YEAR

This year came to an end so soon! it seems like it was just yesterday when i graduated college, spent the best memories with my friends, learnt so many new dishes every day, and of course, met my siddharth :)Time really flies when everything good is happening around you :)

This year is going to bring a huge change in my life and in me. Finally the day arrives which i have always dreamt of; My wedding! I am so looking forward to this year because i have made some promises to myself. You can call them resolutions, that is what the elder folks call them i guess ;) I am going to enter a whole new world where i will get a new family, a new life, a new future. All this excites me so much! But i also need to get ready for changes. I will have to look after my family and Siddhartha. As scary as it sounds, i am really lookin forward to everything! I will continue to pursue my love for arts and pottery always! I don't think i can ever live without them.

There's so much to do this year. It's already giving me goosebumps. I wish to win their hearts; i wish to win everybody's hearts

The countdown'

Tonight over dinner, Baba told me Aapasaheb is gonna come for my engagement here in London. I am so excited about meeting him, I've have always heard so much about them from Aai Baba! In fact secretly I ask about India only to hear more stories about my extended family living there.

I always look at Indian families on the TV and wonder how amazing it might be to live with the entire family under one roof! Waking up to Aaji's Shloka's, Appa Sahebs Good Mornings. All this tempts me so much to go to India. But I would love it if India comes to me! Maybe the Tv serials show too much of drama, I am sure an extended family is so happening to have. My friends call me mad, they tell me a nuclear family is better, you get more freedom. But then I think nothing is more fun than having an entire family sit at the dinner table together and discuss what happened in the day.

I am so sooo missing India, even though I haven't seen it, I know Appa Saheb will bring along with him the entire India with him! Cant' wait to share this news with Siddy as well! The countdown as begun'

Muchas Love,

G

BUSY BUSY!

As the title says, I have been extremely busy this past week. It was extremely tiring, PHEW! No, I wasn't abducted by aliens, kidnapped or recruited by the special force. Instead I was working my ass off, mostly on college assignment. They have kept me so damn busy!!!

I have been studying like a crazy person because I had like a major driving license test which was on Monday. Well, I GOT MY LICENCE. That's right; you are now reading the blog of someone who has a right to be on the road! I'm not just driving around and looking over my shoulder every two seconds, sure that a cop's car will come out of thin air and pull me over.

That fear has completely disappeared, and I am feeling pretty confident about myself!! Now I just have to wait six months to receive my permanent license which is when I can finally drive around by myself like a cool kid! Hehehe

October has arrived!

I'm very much aware that's its October in your lives, too, but I just wanted to mention how excited I am that it's the start of October. Fall and winter are by far my favorite seasons and October gives this time of year a wonderful kick-off. There is something mystical and different about October! Or, maybe its my crazy obsession with fall shopping ;) Okay, so there are some things I just cant wait to do this month. The list goes on and on.

Anyway, here are the top 3 fall-y things I just can't wait to do!! 1. Carve a pumpkin for Hallowen, though its not a Indian festival. It's super duper fun when Lisa and Carol are around!

2. Make my first pot of hot 'awesome' chocolate. Maybe this time I'll use real chocolate and not the powder. LOL

3. Shopping Shopping Shopping!! I already bought a new scarf from Banana Republic to add to my extensive collection at home. I can't seem to stop myself. I confess; I AM A SCRAFA-HOLIC!

In other news, I am currently thinking about my pending assignments! I'm too tired to complete them though. Anyway, back to my college work. :)

Much Love,

G

Food and the complicated relationship we share!

Lately, I got a special interest in cooking and learning to cook. Omg, I don't think I share a good equation with it! I love Aai's cooking, and I have always grown up eating the best of Maharashtrian delicacies! Now that Sid and I will get married soon, I sooo wanna learn to cook!

I always wanted to become this perfect home maker just like mom. I want to make Sid and my mom-in- law happy. Every time Baba eats mom's food he always licks his fingers, and I want Sid to do the same with my food. I love Missal Pau, and I decided to make it today. Gosh! It was so spicy! Mom said I can get an award for bringing a field of chillies right into your mouth! I accidently added a spoon of chilli powder instead of a pinch! How stupid of me :/

I have decided to cook every week a new dish. The next dish is going to be sabudana vada. I hope I don't screw up this time! I will keep a record of how much I have grown as a cook from now. Bye! Dinner time!

RESULTS!!

After weeks of anxiety, finally the first semester results were announced on Wednesday! I think I was the first few to receive mine. Hehe, Thank god, if not; I'd be mad worried when everyone has received theirs.

So at around 5.30-ish, I woke up from my nap, and went to check my phone, and there it was. "1 New Message". My heart was beating fast, adrenaline rushed into my capillaries! It was Carol, she texted that the results were officially out on the school website.

And finally the moment of truth, GAURI BHONSLE - GPA SCORE 3.1

Yes, I finally passed; I was on the seventh heaven! I can't wait to tell this news to Baba when he arrives back from work. YAY!!

Read On!

So yesterday I took my first trip to the gorgeous library down the street since coming home from college. And trust me it is the best time to have to alone me time. Was kinda missing them lately.

I have to admit that the one thing I am probably most excited about for the summer is all the free reading time I have. Reading novels has been completely nonexistent in my college life since I was always busy with college assignments and shit...but now I get to make up for it. I was super excited and already created a list of books which I wanted to read :)

The very first book that I sooo longed to read was he Lost Wife by Alyson Richman. It is about a young couple who are separated by the Nazi's. Sounds interesting na?

Well, this book should keep me busy for a while...

Have a super duper day!

My KRAZY 21st B'Day

Yesterday was my 21st birthday and I can honestly say it was one of the best days of my life, everyone made the day so special and it's something I shall always remember. I feel incredibly lucky to have such amazing family and friends that made my birthday so amazing.

Well I spent my actual birthday with my family and had a delicious home cooked Indian meal made especially by Aai. All my favorites like rasgulla, dal makhni, the typical maharashtrian puri with mouth-smacking spicy bhaji were prepared! Baba had also bought a photo collage filled with pictures of me as a kid and put it on the table which was quite embarrassing but it just showed how much they cared for me, after all material things don't matter at all! After our food Aai brought out a cake with a huge sparkler on it, the cake had a photo of me on it; I think it's my first school photo so I will have been about five.

A(www)rtstruck!!

I visited Southampton's Art Gallery today! For a minute I thought I entered paradise!

I was so awestruck! It was just awesome. I wished I never came out of there. I really don't know from where I got this craze. Maybe because I am an Indian and we are known to have a rich arts and cultural background. And I being a pure Desi at heart can never ignore a magnificent piece of art work ever! Picasso, Van Gogh, M F Hussein, have never failed to impress me with any of their art work.

Someday I wish to see my paintings on those walls. I want people to get inspired by me. I want someone to be in my shoes and look at me with awe! My dreams are so big. I hope one day all of this comes true. I have always been praised for my paintings; probably that is why Baba and Aai never opposed me from joining Fine Arts. I could have become anything, a doctor, an engineer. But, I always wanted to do something that excites me, something that I would look forward to every morning I got up. And my paintings and pottery help me so much as a stress buster.

Art for me is always going to be my first love, after which its Sid ofcourse ;) I recommend everybody to try it once. It is the best way to remove your frustration. Maybe that is why I am so calm from the outside.

Siddy... is never on time! :-/

Me: Hey Siddy, don't forget to pick me up at 8 tonight! <3

Siddharth: K

THIS IS WHAT ANNOYS ME!

'K.' I know people say it happens to them a lot but it honestly does. I don't like sending one word answers myself, so I try to make my replies a little bit interesting but as soon as someone txts me back with one word, that's usually when I say goodbye. Sid has such a bad habit of replying with just a 'k' Oh god, I am tired of pointing out these silly mistakes to him.

I mean I go to all that effort to write a good reply and I only get "K" in return, it honestly makes me want to punch Sid in the face sometimes. No joke, I'm serious!!! It really makes me question why I bother txting him in the first place! I think I would prefer calling rather than texting! Bleh!

Recap on Resolutions: 2012 :)

At the beginning of the year everyone makes 'resolutions' or goals for what they want to achieve during the next year. I've been thinking about that a lot because I've also made some crazy yet achievable mini-goals for the separate months. I've just been setting goal after goal after goal for myself. PHEW! Seems a little crazy na?

Sometimes I achieve my goals, sometimes I don't and that's okay. Sometimes that's just how life goes. Since over the year has already whizzed by I thought it was high-time that I did a little update on how some of those resolutions of mine were going ;) ;) So come one, lets do this!!

Take a serious photo DONE

Eat healthier EPIC FAIL

Learn another language, specifically Spanish. DIDN'T ACHIEVE. YET

Get my licence. HURRAY AND HUZZAH!! THIS IS DONE!

Learn Maharashtrian Cuisine DONE, thanks to my lovely awesome Aai. This is the one I am really proud of :) :)

Three out of five, now that's a awesome solid effort and I'm sure I can achieve the rest of my goals before New Years.

Cheers!!

Desi Living in Videsh

The world is changing and it is changing so damn fast! I mean, i can see it all around me! The desi's living in London are abandoning their Indian traditions. W*F! Thank God these changes luckily don't apply to my family though, and I'm really thankfull to my Baba and Aai. LOL I might live in London but my heart is truly desi and NOT videshi!! Sounds filmy na? Hehe even I thought so!

Many Indians, who come to the UK, really do want to fit in here, which is quite sad! They go out of their way to adapt and be a Firrang which is totally uncool!. And I am totally against this! One should always stay rooted to their tradion . I do a bit of everything to keep the Indian traditions alive ' study, cook, clean, participate in family pujas, and follow important rituals. My aai has taught me so much and most imp of all, I love my traditions!!

There's no doubt that Indian community here in London is undergoing a revolution, being pulled this way and that; in a very idiotic stupid tug of war over tradition or modernization. What is it that makes people hold onto tradition so tightly, whereas others are happy to move forward? Well, there are some questions which cannot be answered, can they? ;)

Navaari Shopping Spree!

I went Navaari Shopping today! And gosh it was so exciting. It was like I entered this room of bright colours which resemble all the colours of the Rainbow. I got so confused between the shades. Every colour had atleast ten shades to it. Oops, for people who don't know what a Navaari is, it's a 9 yard beautiful Saree which is draped on even more beautiful girls who look like a million bucks in it! Of course I can't miss out on the gold that compliments it.

So I bought this pretty fuschia pink coloured Saree which is in fashion now! And I tried it out too. I just have one thing to say - Jaw dropping! I just didn't wish to get out of the saree at all! My mom had to come in and literally remove it off me. She always teases me that one day she'll get me a night dress which looks like a navaari. LOL. So you can imagine how much I loved it.

Also, mom said I look like a typical maharashtrian in the saaree. That instantly bought a smile to my face! Oh, I bought the saaree to wear on Lisa's wedding. I am sure she will be shocked to see me in this traditional avatar, because nobody has seen me wearing such a traditional dress ever. I am more excited than Lisa for her wedding just because of this Saaree. Hehehe.

BBQ PARTY!!

Finally got the chance to post this which has been remained draft for almost a week. Our class had a little get together at Carol's house, only around 8 of us made it, but still, we had a super cool time. Everyone totally has a blast! Carol's house is mad gorgeous; like seriously, I'm totally in LOVE with it <3

BTW Jack got an iPhone4s! I was mad jealous! Almost everyone has gotten new phones ever since the results came out except me :( which reminds me, I need one too!!

Let's talk about food now, my fav topic! All of it was prepared by Carol's dad, with the help of the rest of the family obviously. He's actually a very good cook, so the food were the BOMBZ!!!! OMG, BEST BBQ EVER!!

I'm so glad that everyone in our class got good results, at least good enough to continue at Solvent Uni. The next semester is gonna start very soon, rumor has it that we're gonna start on Monday: O Gonna go and check if I need to buy anything for the next sem after this post.

Laters Ya'll :)

Why I Love Indian Television, and you should too!

Well, being a normal teenager I do watch a lot of television! Mind-numbing television that turns my brain to pleasant mush. It's wonderful, trust me! After a long day it's nice to just sit down on the couch and watch some amazing Indian television show that lets me completely zone out!! I am so much in love with these Hindi sitcoms. I watch them with Aai every day. There is so much drama, colors, heavy jewelry, Oh my my!! Indian sitcoms are so colorful, their costumes are damn amazing. They all live in a big fat joint family, which is something I have always dreamt about! Apart from the regular saas bahu sitcoms, I'm hooked onto Koffee with Karan, an interview-style show with the engaging director/producer Karan Johar, who interviews Bollywood celebs. It's all very in the now, and fascinating to watch! It's amazing to watch Indian television with Aai and Baba over dinner. It's like our own little version of family time. ;) Oh wait, is it almost 9?? OMG I gtg, my fav saas-bahu sitcom is on! See ya later lovelies <3

My Dad the Stuntman

I and Baba were on our way to the grocery store and I was driving. When we reached the place, I parked in the first parking lot visible. Then as we got out of the car I realized I had parked a bit too further behind in the designated parking lot. So I got back in the car and asked baba to stand outside and tell me where I should stop. At that moment he was standing in front of the car.

We were joking around and I guess I was being absent-minded again when I accidentally hit the acceleration pedal a bit too hard and hit my own dad!I swear to God I had a massive heart attack! It was like my brain stopped functioning for 5 seconds.

Luckily, Baba has the secret talent of a stuntman and a very speedy reflex movement. He somehow managed to use his hand to lift his body and leap away from the car. On a more cheerful note, Baba can't stop making fun of what happened and keeps bragging about how he became a stuntman today ;)

So, moral of the story is: Never be too happy or over-excited to the extent of turning absent-minded like me!!

May month

Proud to be a blue desi :)

Some people like to live an independent life of their own without being judged by others, some like to live in a social setting with their own cultural beliefs and like being surrounded by people with the similar mindset. Well, I fall in the latter category.

I love the fact that I am still rooted to my Indian traditions. Appshaheb has been a very great influence on me; he has taught me everything from shlokas to various traditions back in India. And surprisingly I have always found it interesting, because I feel connected to my family back in India. I do respect my family values, they have taught me so much and it defines who I really am. Indian culture is unique in its own way

Aai has informed me that they my family back in India will be coming down to London, for Gudi Padwa. I am so excited but at the same time I have no expectations whatsoever.

My Best Mate- Pixie

Today has been a very emotional and stressful day for everyone in my house at the moment. Pixie, my dog is seriously ill. She is suffering from a rare form of arthritis which stemmed from two bones rubbing against each other. I don't know about you guys but that sounds damn painful to me.

She is currently on a dose of pain medication that she takes twice daily. I don't like seeing how much pain my best friend has to go through :(. Every time she tries to get up or sit down my heart breaks a lil' bit because there was nothing I can do about it!

She has given me sooo many good times. I'll never forget all the times she tried to eat my stuff toy- bunny rabbit, or how she would cuddle up in a patch of sunlight with me :)

She is indeed the best mate I could have ever hoped for <3 Please pray for her guys, she needs our prayers. Now, prayer is the only hope left! And I do believe in God'. :)

Sleep V/s History- The Epic Battle!

Hii! :) I feel so sleepy right now due to the rains; cold cold weather= perfect nap :D Too bad I can't have that perfect nap; I need to revise for psychology tonight. :(

I always hated psychology for some reason, god its sooo damn boring, I could kill myself! But I can't escape it, gotta make it through. Trying my hard though!

Anyway, my history textbook is calling me! Gotta go, I will see you soon. Will try to revise as soon as possible to have that perfect warm-wala nap :)

Who loves fashion? Raise your hands!

Me? I would definitely raise my two hands including my feet! LOL

I found this shop owned by a very bubbly and friendly. I liked her from the very first time I talked to her. She was so kind to attend the needs of her clients! You don't get to see such people around town these days, shey!

Think of every item under the sun, they ALL have it! - In a fashionable way! They have Zara, MANGO, Marks & Spencer and maaanyyy more.. It's the most convenient way of shopping items for your closet, really! I went super crazzzyyy in that store! A MANGO tee for just '3, it was a complete steal!

The good thing about this shop is they have items that are really affordable and worth the price! Perfect for budget savvy girls in town! My nearly ended spending up almost all of my week's allowance! Baba is gonna be super pissed now. But that's okay, it was totally worth it! Hehe ;)

First day at Solent!

College life is WAY different from secondary school life! The environment, especially at Solent University London, is supercool people are from all over the world with their different sense of fashion and style have made this campus special to me.

As soon as I stepped on the college ground. I was super excited to meet new people. I didn't know how I should behave or what to do, just to fit in.

it was the first day of orientation and was kind of boring with all the crappy speeches but I had no choice but to listen. Sux!. But the second day was fun, I hung out with Carol and Lisa my classmates and I bonded so well with them!

We went out for beers at a nearby place. We saw a wanna-be studand who approached us. Carol wanted to have some fun. She whisperd in my ears to point at the guy, and pass a comment to lisa and all 3 of us had to laugh. The idea was to make him conscious. As soon as he saw us pointing and laughing, he started looking down and wondering whats wrong. Her Idea worked!!! It was soo much fun, we kept on laughing and he dint know what was wrong.

Snacking & Shopping - you end up eating more than u intend to shop...

Ugh ' birthdays. I think I'm the world's worst present-picker in over a thousand years, like seriously! I officially hold the record for the worst present-giver ever!!! It was my Lisa's birthday yesterday and since I'm kinda dirt poor, I didn't really have any money to buy her something in the first place. But since I'm all nice and stuff I borrowed some money. Aren't I such a good friend? *wink wink*

The real question: what did I spend the money on? Hmmm and the answer: french fries from the local caf for '2.50 ' I consider that to be a bargain. I even got to eat some myself ' happy dance ' I L O V E french fries <3 But I still feel kinda bad about only buying her something worth '2.50 so I've decided to buy her a super cool and super awesome Christmas present! :D I'm kinda thinking about getting jewelry or perfume cause she's a girly girl like me.

Atleast wait for the show to start, Sonia!!! I dont like so much negativity before a show even starts!! This is the reason why I dont come on IF often or go to any other show forum. negativity kills my excitement, unfortunately!
