I have been reading many articles on Meena Kumari recently. Also read many articles on Divya Bharti.
Both actresses have been exploited by their family and husbands, and have a very similar story. Impoverished but spendy and posh families push them into Cinema, they get wooed by much older Producers/Directors to get married, and find they have stepped from frying pan to the fire. Both gave in to alcohol and died quite young.
I am aware Shandar Amrohi started a book on his choti ammi, "Nowhere to Somewhere" on Meena Kumari, but died just about when the book was about to be published? Some scent a conspiracy. Was the book ever published?
Who knows the truth of what happened to the actress?
