I have always been a very proud viewer of Balika Vadhu, right from episode 1. Proud because yours was the only show which actually stuck to the story line right from the start...proud because you never gave in to the TRP game...proud because you had the courage to break away from streotypical over-the-top characters and showed REAL people, who were both good & bad. I have seen many Balaji shows with passion, but Balika Vadhu was the only show I openly accepted that I saw.
From the beginning you have excelled in each department - whether it was casting, scripting, directing - everything. You tackled various issues related to Bal Vivah and made us aware of so many important things which we may have never known, had it not been for you esp the law about the legality of bal vivah and the rights of the children involved. All your characters somewhere had some good in them - Basant, Dadisa, Gauri, Jagya - no one was a villain in the true sense of the word. They were all human being like us who had their own faults but also had good in them. There was a clear-cut path of redemption marked out for each and you had always shown people reforming for the better be it Basant or Dadisa or even Mahavir Singh. Somewhere we could identify with all your characters...we could empathise with them, emote with them!
When Anjum Farooqi left the show because of her marriage, I was sure that you will replace her with some other actress since you were never the ones who would leave issues vague & without closing the loop. But for the first time you proved me wrong. Not only was Anjum not replaced, there was no satisfactory explanation for Gauri's sudden & complete absence from the show.
That also would have been fine if you had not suddenly & brutally massacred the characters of Jagya , Dadisa and also Basant & Gehna.
You showed that Jagya, realizes all his errors just a few episodes earlier and vows to do 'prayashchit' for all his mistakes. So he comes back to Jaitsar only to realise that even his beloved Dadisa & Anandi are unwilling to forgive him for what he has done. After such good intentions, it took only one rejection from Anandi to transport Jagya to the proverbial dark side. In just one episode, Jagya underwent the transformation from a selfish, self-centered, shallow, weak, but still essential having some good in him to a character so dark that he has no scope for ever coming back home.
Dadisa - arguably the strongest character on television in many many years - has been reduced to a caricature and a miserable shadow of her previous self. Yes, she always loved Jagya more than the world. But she had been shown to change after seeing the hell her beloved grandson had put Anandi thru. The lecture Dadisa gives him in the hospital made us feel proud of BV writers again, where she tells him that she can forgive him for what he has done to the family but she cannot forgive him for he did with Anandi. One can understand her eagerness to believe that Jagya has improved and wanting him back. So far so good. But why make her want Anandi to accpet him back in her life? Where has all the love & concern for Anandi vanished? It got washed away in a few tears of Jagya? Dadisa was never so weak and she always stood by her word & honour - no matter what. This is not the Dadisa you had scripted at the start.
Coming to Basant & Gehna - Is this the same Gehna who was shown slapping her son coz he met his Jagdish Bhaisa? Where is the Gehna who was always ANandi's coulsellor & inspiration? Basant wanted to throw Jagya out coz he had sold his grandfather's locket, but now he is willing to accept him back? Just because Jagya saved Nandu?
My grievance is not abt these fictional characters or abt wanting AnSh together. My problem is the message which will eventually get conveyed thru your show. Balika Vadhu is not any run-of-the-mill show which is abt love & its problems. NO - Balika Vadhu is, rather was, a very sincere attempt to get across a strong message & effect a social change. And you were succeeding as well. By introducing Shiv & his family you showed that there are progressive people as well. When the Singh family decides to get Anandi remarried, it gave hope to many parents that not all girls get unjust in-laws. But from the track which is been shown for the past month or so, you have destroyed all that you had ever built.
What are you people trying to prove? That at the end of the nothing matters more than your own son? That ultimately blood turns out to be thicker than water? That in-laws, no matter how good, will care for the DIL, but only till the son returns?
Please don't do this. Don't spoil the message which was slowly but surely reaching the masses in the interiors of the country. Television is a very strong medium and you have used it very wisely till now. Please act responsibly and give the correct message.
Otherwise please wrap up the show and leave us with fond memories
