I watched it with a couple of friends. It was so much fun! We were literally roaring with laughter thoughout the 96 minutes. It was a brilliant film, not just by Indian standards but overall as well. The best part was the dialogues. Kya dialogues the, Govinda was totally FTW in this department 😆

4/5!

'Delhi Safari' review: An enjoyable film

File photo: Delhi Safari

'Delhi Safari', a film which will change your mind that animated films is only for kids.

Directed by Nikhil Advani, 'Delhi Safari' features the voices of Urmila Matondkar (as the Queen leopard), Govinda (as Bajrangi - the militant monkey), Akshay Khanna (as Alex- the parrot), Boman Irani (as Baggah - the bear), Sunil Shetty(as the king Leopard) and Swini Khara (as Yuvi- the leopard kid).

The story is about the bunch of animals from Sanjay Gandhi National Park who go all the way to Delhi to voice their protest against De-forestation.

A journey undertaken by a cub leopard, his mother, a monkey, a bear and a parrot when the forest they live in is on the verge of destruction. The animals decide to go to Delhi to take the matter to Prime Minister and other ministers in the Parliament.

The film, made in 3D, traces the journey of five animals and birds from Mumbai to Delhi and some gags and jokes adds to the fun quotient in this wild ride.

Delhi Safari is a total entertainer with dialogues from Bollywood masala films - A leopard cub saying 'mere paas maa hai..' to a pack of hyenas when her mother comes to rescue her.

The film produced by Krayon Pictures (a Pune based 3D animation studio) is funny, filmi and thought-provoking but the animation of is average.

Unlike any other Indian animated film, 'Delhi Safari' is no exception to being preachy.

Hyper-active situations, lengthy scenes and unnecessary song sequences can make you lose the plot often.

The music of the film is composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, while the lyrics are penned by Sameer. The screenplay is written by Girish Dhamija and Suresh Nair.

All in all, 'Delhi Safari' is an enjoyable watch not only for kids but for grownups too.

Idk, I feel it would have gone unnoticed no matter what the release time, because our audience doesn't have that kind of affinity towards desi animation films. I wish more people were going to watch this film though, it's a really well made film with brilliant voice overs.

A Fun Lesson on Co-existence

Posted On Saturday, October 20, 2012 at 01:57:29 AM

Confession: I didn't see The Lion King until very recently. When I heard that Simba's father Mufasa dies, I absolutely refused to watch it. Sunny Deol smashing the populous with a hand pump? No problem.

James Bond nuking a thousand baddies? All good. A big cat's death being plotted by hyenas? Hand me the tissues. As a die-hard animal lover, it is incredibly hard for me to handle any kind of fauna violence, no matter how badly animated it might be.

The 3D glasses hid my blurry eyes well while watching Delhi Safari because director Nikhil Advani goes all out to make his point. The wild inhabitants of Sanjay Gandhi National Park (don't you love the immediacy of the set up?) find their home besieged by builders constructing high-rise apartments.

Evil looking machinery (good artwork here!) tears up their land and a father-son duo of leopards is caught amidst the building site. Father saves the son, but at the cost of his own life as a worker shoots him with a gun.

A plot is hatched with the mother, an Englishman of a bear, a right-wing monkey with a rustic twang, and a domesticated talking parrot determined to get their message across to humans: don't destroy our home. Or as one of them puts it: "Insaan ko insaaniyat sikhana padega". Of course, they need to settle their own issues first.

Their quest takes them to Delhi and in between, they meet all sorts… Gujju flamingos, Himesh Reshammiya-inspired hyenas, and Axis Japan-inspired bees. All very imaginatively rendered. Somewhat inevitably Advani uses classic Hindi film dialogue and songs as a relatable context for the characters and the audience.

Even though the target audience is kids, Advani doesn't talk down to them. This is one of those rare instances of a children's film - animated or not - that respects its audience. You find this in the way the characters are voiced, the subtle jokes that kids wouldn't get in the first go. I mean, Pixar does that sort of thing. And I've heard far more juvenile jokes in 'A' rated films.

What Pixar doesn't do, of course, is songs. And save for one 2D hand-animated effort that breaks away from the style of the rest of the film, one wonders if we need to force fit this Bollywood legacy of the lip-sync into our cutting edge animated stories as well.

Akshaye Khanna is the pick of the voices as Alex, the multi-lingual parrot with an attitude. Boman Irani and Govinda bring alive Bagoo the bear and Bajrangi the monkey nicely too.

Even though you can clearly see the story's inspirations in films like The Lion King and Avatar this is a universal theme that needs and uses cinema (and not the other way round) to constantly remind the public that we share our planet with other species. Side note: as convenient it is to make them the bad guys, I wish hyenas weren't always discriminated against. Anyway, take the kids - find some if you don't have any of your own - and enjoy Delhi Safari. It's been worth the wait.

i agree...

but i don't understand why doesn't the country recognize the talent we have in the country...in fact its a lot better than the west but we don't have the resources...this year has been a boon to the industry along with delhi safari, we have that Indian Animator who led the pack for the animation department in Pixar's Brave...forgot his name..there's Varun who won 3 International titles this year...and some great quality films came this year...now we just need to make more grt films like delhi safari and not mythologyy
